We are fine right now but the truth is it will show up on the field in 2019 and beyond. Period. Nobody wants to admit it but we have ourselves a pretty obvious and serious problem on the interior defensive line. It is even worse than I am making it sound.

You guys keep touting Mathis as the next elite nosegaurd type yet he wasn't good enough to play last year even though we needed the depth. I hope I am wrong of course but I would bet that I am not.

For two straight years we have lost out on all of our top targets at the position and to top it off we also lost out on most of our secondary targets.

It isn't even anything that Saban could do to make it better. Pretty much his entire staff was lost including a few ultra-elite recruiters. What sucks is that it will take a couple of years for the new guys to build relationships that are necessary to land these blue chip guys.

There isn't anything wrong with stating obvious facts that anybody paying attention can see. It doesn't make you less of a fan than the guys that refuse to see any problem, at any time and for any reason. We can shuffle a couple of bodies around this year and make it work. The problem will be in 2018 and 2019.

if we played the old ground and pound teams - i would completely agree. We will be ok for next year, but we will need some studs for immediate depth the following year

Who is melting?

Anyway, I don't do recruiting that much but I was kinda surprised Bama was not able to get a couple of elite middle linebackers - especially after last year. Hope the Moody kid makes up for it though.

And, the class didn't have much flash because they are loaded with very young players already at QB, RB, and WR. Getting another kicker (a transfer) was good.

Finishing as high as they did, with the youth they have, is fairly impressive.

I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with you expressing your concerns Data, but I disagree with your sentiment here. To count guys out just because they didn't get on the field as true freshmen at Alabama is asinine.

Correct. We had no reason to play Mathis last year with Payne, Frazier and Dwight all healthy and available. Supposedly our staff is very high on Mathis.

He won a NC last year by the skin of his teeth when it should've been easy.

Bro, take a deep breath, and think back to every NC that we've won under Saban, besides 2009, and tell me that we didn't achieve those by the "skin of our teeth." Winning a NC is fricking hard, and the fact that you say that "it should've been easy", especially with the mountain of injuries that we had, makes me think that you are in the portion of our fanbase that has insane, delusional expectations for Saban and Alabama football.

His failure to recognize Tua as the best QB had us lose the iron bowl and almost miss the playoffs entirely.

Yeah, you could say that...or you could say that his management of Tua, allowing him to get a ton of reps in live game action, and recognizing exactly when we needed him, won us a national championship. I still can't fault Saban for not sticking a true freshman into Jordan Hare in the fourth quarter in a one possession game. Could Tua have made a difference? Absolutely. But that is an extremely hard decision to make, I don't giaf what Humpty Dumpty Daboll said.

And sure, we almost missed the playoffs. But almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. In a game of inches, I'll stick with actually happened, and not worry about what almost happened.

Very true. Any complaints about how close a NC win was, is well....stupid.

Agree in part, but by late in the 3rd quarter of the IB it was clear Hurts wasn't getting it done. When your OC is telling you he has a QB that can open up the offense for you, would it really have killed us to give Tua a series? I absolutely believe with Tua we could have and probably would have won the IB. Saban was stubborn, we can't deny that. That said, had we won the IB we would have faced UGA with a depleted and injured team and frankly, likely would have lost and not made the playoffs or won the natty. So us missing the SECCG and getting healthy is probably what gave us a chance to win it all. Now Saban obviously didn't draw it up that way, we got a bit lucky. I'll take it.

That's a fair assessment, but you still have to admit that it was a hard decision to make, especially considering how Hurts had shown many times to be clutch in close games like that, and how it wasn't just hurts that was playing bad on offense.

It definitely wouldn't have hurt to put Tua in for the last few series though after it became a two possession game. Saban's stubborn-ness is a strength as well as a weakness at times.

Also, had Georgia not made it 13-0 right before half, Jalen likely trots out there to start the 2nd half, and we likely lose the game
