Has Saban just resigned himself to the idea that the defense is shite?

I really want to see some players apologize and vow to never let this happen again. I saw a lot of players just flat out not trying tonight. 32 was egregiously bad in that regard. Sit on the damn bench it you're not going to at bare minimum play hard

It just got to the point that screaming wasn't changing a thing. Our defense was lost and nothing was changing that. The only thing coach Saban could do was get his team to outscore this bunch. 63 points and the game was in doubt until the last minutes. What an abomination of a DC.

I watched the Ole Miss vs Florida and Kentucky game. When I tell you our DC is clueless with scheme and teaching fundamentals, it doesn't half explain what he can't do.

I think they were trying, i just think they were completely confused on what defenses to run. If they cant figure shite out sooner there needs to be some sort of base defense they call quickly and just try to out athletic the opponent for that down. Because not getting set up is even worse.

Yes, THIS. You have officially made a better adjustment than Golding and I’m not even kidding. He CAN NOT adjust in a game. I honestly can’t wrap my head around what he’s teaching these kids. Does he watch film? Does he even know how to read offenses? Has he taught our kids HOW to adjust to motion? He has to go, tonight. Period.

My main problem is it obvious they don’t practice tackling or wrapping up that is fundamentals ,plus they have no plan for hurry up. They are never lined up by the time the ball is snapped.

I think the defensive scheme is dated. The offense evolved to modern rules nad the rpo game. Basically, big 12 football. But even with leaner, faster players, the defense has not evolved. Saban's combo defense is too complicated. Clearly it is beyond Goldings grasp. And throughout last season and 3 games this season, the players have been lost.

I think some kind of zone, keeping everything in front of the DBs, as well as allowing the DBs to keep their eyes front, instead of running with backsw to the qb is the only way to slow down the rpo game. Going to give up yards and points, but i think it would allow for more turnovers, something the Bama defense hasn't been very good at in a few years.

But then, maybe a DC who understaqnds the combo defense and how to teach and call it is the only solution needed. I dunno. But I detest 63-48 scores.

In my heart of hearts, I believe that Golding is running exactly what coach Saban is asking him to run. I don't for a second believe he is his own boss out there. I think to let Golding go would be akin to firing himself at this point.

Someone said it earlier, it's going to take a new DC that has the credentials and fortitude to scheme these spreads a better way. Their way.

I'm starting to wonder if it's not all on the DC.

We have had 4 DC's who have specifically struggled on third downs since offenses started to change to RPO's and the like. 4.

At a certain point, you have to look at the constant, they were all running the same defense. And its consistently 3rd down defense that has crushed us time, and time, and time again. It just all came to a head tonight.

I had more confidence stopping them on a second and short than a third and long.
