But if as a result of this new landscape Bama ends up being a perennial 6-6 team, you know what I'm gonna do? I'm still gonna take amazing vacations, play golf, go to concerts, and have a fun life for what's left of it. My happiness and joy for life is in no way dictated by whether or not Alabama wins another football game. I'll remember the glory years, and I'm good with that.

If people are serious about this mindset, I can absolutely respect it. There’s plenty of reason for it.

I just remain to be convinced that when it gets down to gonad cutting time, people will stick with it. Tide fandom runs too deep.

And the tone of this thread and the other one about Mbakwe reinforces what I have said that to a major part of our fan base it’s about a certain way of doing things that far transcends sports and, yes, W’s and L’s.

Although the more I think about it, the more my answer to the OP is that it was incredibly off putting and tremendously clumsy.

Did anyone put a gun to your head and force you to?
Why are you like this? No one has forced me to do anything. He asked us to pay for NIL, and I’m saying no. I’ve given you my reasons, and at the same time I’m not trying to stop anyone else from donating if that’s what they want to do. I’m sorry if that hurts your feelings

You're the one mad man; I'm actually the one sorry you are so broken up about this and offended a person said you aren't forced to do something you don't like so being dramatic about it is silly.

The entire thread is about whether it was off-putting. It's literally in the title!

Okay, I have never argued that. I have said it's still reality and no one is forcing people to pay.

quote:

You keep talking about the reality of the situation and then saying things like this. A bunch of middle or lower class fans picking $50-100 extra a month to Yea Alabama for a semi-pro professional player's salary vs $50 or $100 to their kids college fund or their church or their savings account is an absurd thing to ask and no, I don't even entertain it as a legitimate request.

By all means I believe everyone should do what they want with their own money. I have literally never condemned that.

quote:

So yea, if that means we get beat out in bidding wars then so be it. I won't be complaining about it.

Again, I have literally agreed with you but you're pointing your frustration at me.

We just have to accept this is the new reality so as you said why complain about it?

We DO NOT have to accept this new reality as fans. Without us, there is NO money. Bama fans aren’t the only ones frustrated to hell with this system. It’s a joke, and the sport will die on its current trajectory. Something will have to give because the fans not just “accepting it” will necessitate it.

Then why are you wasting your time on a message board about the team you give zero fricks about?

Wish we reach out to Jim Rogers for his input. Bama native that's a investing legend and taught at UA in the 80s.

Lots to weed thru in this thread. But in all seriousness, how many of y’all are actually considering setting up a monthly payment to Yea Alabama?

I have no issues buying vodka or merch or whatever to make sure the money goes to the NIL, but simply being a consumer probably isn’t going to be enough to make a difference. Outside that, there is no way in hell I’m setting up an automatic draft to fund paying players. I just can’t do it.

Alabama reported spending just under $5.9 million on athlete meals across the department for FY 2023. That’s up from $775,044 in FY 2021.

How does this even happen?? Seriously that’s insane.

How is that "insane" when you consider the food inflation over the last 4 years? My food expences have gone up more than the 7% a year those numbers represent. Hell, McDonalds prices have increased about 10% a year over that same period.

Quiet money is the best kind because no one knows you have it.

If you want CFB to turn into a hobby for venture capitalists, it’s quickly approaching that.

I agree 100%. My interest in college football is dwindling and I'm ok with that. I used to watch Marlon Humphrey's and the mark ingram's come to this university because they loved it and had a passion for it. They were loyal. These new age self entitled babies have actually helped me to be ok with living my life without college football. These divas aka attention whores have been given full power

This is why I said you guys were getting emotional and angry.. you not even reading what I'm saying. You're just lashing out.

I never said you had to and asked why act like you're being forced to because no one put a gun to your head?

I also repeatedly stated it's your money and no one can force you to prioritize what you don't want over what you actually want or need.

This is delusional. This boat has left the dock long time ago.

You're still here on an Alabama board that is primarily about football; emotionally discussing football.

If you really believe your words.. log-off and never discuss or watch Alabama or College Football again. Some can.. but most can't though because of the entertainment value.

What we need is regulation. Ironically government to step in an fix what the broke

Yes, it is always a good idea to get the government to fix things. We're talking about a group that couldn't (already documented) run a one car funeral.

Maybe two more years of the big guys giving millions to their favorite team only to see 9-3 records and then those folks will stop the big bucks.

Until then just accept higher green fees on Saturday at the golf course.
