Here's a thought (probably dumb). With the money allocated to build a new practice facility, maybe they will drop the floor down into the existing practice facility. Maybe allow for reconfiguring the existing seats.

I think this probably means the bball team will continue to train and practice in the current practice facility at Coleman even after the new arena is built.
They are just making it bigger and better. On a side note, yesterday there was discussion at the Tuscaloosa council meeting about the Woolsey Finnel bridge that is about to become a 3 year renovation by ALDOT. The mayor mentioned that this is the area that the new basketball arena may be built. A councilman later said the basketball area will be built at some point. Anyway, that area is about to be a traffic mess for 3 or so years.

As a big time donor who loves attending 6 games a year and puts in no effort into giving away or selling the tickets, have you considered my future complaints?

Put the students close to the floor action behind the benches and wrapping around 3/4 of the floor, and where they can be seen on tv.
Put the big donors on the opposite side

I would like you to give away and sell some tickets to me

All of these projects will suffer as more funds are redirected into collectives. The amount of money donated in finite.

Nobody will be building anything larger than a lego replica of their arena anytime soon because nobody knows the total financial impact the court ruling will have. Until the dust settles and everyone knows how large of a chunk of revenue will go towards their new “employees”, major spending projects are taboo.
As for Cameron Indoor Stadium, it might be iconic but that shithole wasn’t even climate controlled until the early 2000’s. You’re basically making a silk purse out of a sows ear: they can’t/won’t rebuild it so they make it out to be some cool, nostalgic arena when in reality it’s an ugly, outdated facility. Bama has already begun the journey down that ill-fated path.

To me it reads "I get to keep my tickets!"
Me too!! Another thing it says the new practice facility will attach to the new arena whenever we build it- right where the A parking lot is now next to Coleman.

Everyone is broke then. With the house ruling and cost of materials and interest rates, schools all over the country are scrapping major athletic facilities improvements.
As others have said, I cant imagine why a new facility is necessary if players are literally only coming for NIL, with the deciding factor being the coach. What happens if Oats leaves and Bama hires a couple of duds...I think you are right, improvements just dont make sense

Unfortunately we missed the window on building a facility. Nobody is going to build fancy new things with the new setup of college sports. Tons of schools have publicly announced postponement or cancellation of large projects in the last few weeks after the court ruling.
It just won't be a thing anymore.
Can you name a school?
Not saying you're wrong just want to see who else is stuck with crappy facilities so we won't ever be last
If the players don't care neither do I. I think thed rather have nice practice facilities and NIL money anyway

Our recruiting is about as good as its ever been, so the facilities cant be hurting us much, if any. Every time I go to a game, which is frequently, the place seems very nice to me. RTR

The new arena will attach to the new practice facility in what is now the Coleman parking lot. That's where it should be. Just forget about that spot out by the softball field and the new golf facility.

Coleman was outdated when I was a student 87-91. Hoping we can get funding for a new arena.

They building a new arena now?

quote:Agreed, students on the floor. AND relocate the media/stat's people, get them out of the corner in view of the damn camera angles. An entire section in the corner with a few dozen folks at tables with laptops keeping in-game stats & media shite makes the whole televised game look dead to the viewer. Also, give the interior lighting an upgrade, make a fans walkway-dining & drinking bar in the mid-section of the stands, brighten up the place it looks like a tomb.
If they put students on the floor then a whole lot of the Coleman complaints would subside.

We’re going to look back on 2021-22 one day and wring our hands at the opportunity we had to build a new multi purpose arena, but drug our feet and let it slip away. We will be stuck with the Hangar for the foreseeable future. Give props where it’s due, with the millions and millions poured down the hole of renovations, Coleman is decent inside. Not great, but workable. But overall, it’s the biggest eyesore on campus and should be an embarrassment to our athletic department. Nearly all our other sports have first class facilities but our championship caliber men’s basketball team plays inside an ugly dinosaur. Our administration and boosters have done a great job providing those facilities but I just wish that they wouldn’t have tunnel vision on the football program 24/7/365. Every now and then, just open your eyes and look around and see what else is out there.
