I know Coach Saban had a NFL roster mentality to ID his top 45 players and then platoon them accordingly. I think schools today have to take a similar NFL perspective on when and where to spend their $ on the most important player positions on the team. The remaining roster is a fill-in-the-gaps style of roster management.
A salary cap and some type of collective bargaining like the NFL are coming to NIL and to college roster spending because it is totally out of control right now.

Saban lowered his character standards the last few years.
He took a few guys early on that had previously had issues, but almost all of them never had any trouble while going to BAMA.
The LANK/STANK Milroe stuff was not a wise movie either.
He probably thought he needed to do the BLM march to keep any issues down, but that goes back to the character slide with some as well.

Fortunately, Morgan doesn’t need ChatGPT for that, he has a proven track record of his achievements.
It was a delight when he said early in his Alabama tenure that they would be signing players that were lowly regarded by the recruiting services and ignoring many who were highly regarded. They have already garnered a long legacy of “hits”: Russell, Thomalla, Simmons Brown, et al, including a very lowly regarded portal class, that appears to have many solid hits. This includes a lightly regarded corner from Mercer who is supposedly the 3rd CB in a loaded CB room, multiple (5+) crucial OL and DL hits, MLB, and a very good WR (who is unfortunately injured).
If i were forced to choose one or the other, would I rather have a team of all 5 stars vs a team of all 3 stars? An emphatic YES. But on an individual, player by player analysis, you need to understand what you’re looking at in terms of real talent, psychological makeup, room to grow (they are not even physically grown yet), love of football, intelligence, scheme fit, etc. and not depend on others. Without that understanding, you are very much at the mercy of those others whose goals and abilities are different and lesser than yours. .
This staff seems to have one of the most sophisticated, disciplined and courageous approaches to roster building in the country. This along with more money than many think bodes well for Alabama.

I admit that initially I was disappointed with the star rankings with this class but the more & more I ease off the ledge I'm beginning to belive Morgan & DeBoer's strategy is going to work for Alabama.

I generally agree with what you’re saying. I’m just having some fun riffing on the inside jokes on here about how we had one run of signing almost nothing but LBs then a similar run at TE.
Alabama is betting on a sustainable model that is still development focused and restrained on transfers being the right strategy long term. They just need the results to start validating it in the next year or two. I think this bet needs to be right or the sport is truly lost.
In that respect, I may be cautious in giving this new regime the benefit of the doubt but I’m 100% behind the concept Alabama is pursuing. We need to demonstrate that hired guns are not the path to success.

If Saban had not retired I believe most of our recruiting issues would be the same as we have now. He knew the game was about to become a pro bidding process and he knew he didn't want to play that game, additionally he knew Alabama could not hang with big money schools with massive wealthy alumni bases and or oil money.
This was a road we were always going to go down. To me his biggest issue is his struggle to adjust to the more physical game in the SEC. If he can fix the issues on the line of scrimmage I believe the QB game can take a so-so team and take them deep into the playoffs, he seems to draw that kind of QB but we have got to give them protection and a run game.

Doubt it. Saban would take a pay cut to have more NIL money

Low point of his career. Prime Saban was officially gone once he let Najee Harris rope him into that BS.

Saban never been one to rock the real political waters, even when his alleged political party jumped off the left ledge.

With one of the most dominant teams in the history of the sport that was arguably Saban's best.
