I hope you’re wrong. I know CKD and the staff are good at finding diamonds in the rough (e.g. London Simmons) but we run the risk of becoming MSU if we start only signing guys that may or may not pan out.

It's only two predictions each with a 60% confidence.

it seems like we should be able to go higher with NIL with some of these players since we arent taking as many.

The extra money is going to retention of the younger players we already have. It's why we're taking a smaller class this year. Some programs have the money to both pay Ced Morgan to stay out of the portal and sign a Monshun Sales in December. We don't. So we're paying the kids who are already on campus and being developed.

Saban signed quite a few that didn't pan out.

Random thought I had: If the staff is openly saying that this years class will be smaller because we have players we like a lot and a large percentage of money will go to retaining those players that SHOULD translate to the team being successful this year

Like our wins o/u is set at 8.5 but I don’t think you make as big a public spectacle of making sure you retain the whole team if you’re thinking you’re an 8-9 win team. We were picked by a lot of people to compete for a championship last year and made the playoffs and there wasn’t this type of rhetoric and we were big game hunting in recruiting.

I have bought all the talk of saving for retention, missing Turner on the heels of KJ Ford, is raising doubts.

I agree. We've missed on most of the main guys we've been after and the ones we are signing have mostly been 105 guys. Bama being too tight with their money has me frustrated. I get saving money for roster retention, but every school has to do that.

I'm starting to think some of you might need a hobby.

College football is not a real sport anymore. We were not far off from someone who bet on his own team being able to use the courts to stay eligible to play. There is no point in getting too invested anymore. If I weren’t an alum, I’d probably leave the sidewalk.

If you’re wanting to retain the young roster why would you keep adding higher quality talent that will also demand a bigger price tag? You can’t have both.

Didnt use that logic with QB. Only issue i have is that if we plan on going after lower rated kids on defense. Go get some that actually look good. Its some instate kids that like bad arse and we arent going after them.

I don’t think you can use that logic with QB.

Maybe take a look at what’s on the roster. Who has been signed in the last two classes before calling them “lower rated kids”.

Anyone who disagrees with this is contributing to the problem. Hopefully this whole era of “college” football will be stripped from the record books and everyone will look back and be ashamed of how out-of-hand the adults allowed this situation to get.
