Seems UNC has promised Bellichek $20 million every year. We need that kind of NIL to use on DL,QBs, WR and CBs.

Off the top of my head, most of Bama's good or great DL under Saban came from:

AL
GA
MS
LA
TX
FL
VA(though Jonathan Allen is an AL native)

GA, MS, and TX are harder to recruit now between a lot of those instate programs being "up" and/or a massive NIL collective. FL and LA are hard to get out of state, and it usually costs a lot to do so(now moreso than ever).

And not to stoke the Freddie Roach conversation again, but I did find it interesting that he was the point man for only 1 or 2 guys in MS this year and is only credited with 1 commit as a primary recruiter(Akylin Dear) overall.

Roach was brought in as recruiter, primarily for the state of Mississippi by Saban. It's just odd to see as a holdover that his impact in that regard was reduced(purposefully?).

Also, again not trying to hate on Roach, but also was kinda shocked at the amount of commits he's had at Bama transfer out. Though that just might be today's climate over being "busts".

Any idea the war chest Alabama has each year in NIL?

We're firmly a top 10 in NIL according to some 3rd party sources. Our funds seem fine though not the top by 5-7 million (Texas and Ohio State are in the low 20s) but we're allegedly at ~16m.

I think our problem with DL recruiting is mostly strategy. I think DL is the biggest difference maker position in football these days because everything is so spread out that impact from the front is essential. It has always been critical but it is essentially the most important discriminator between good and great defenses now. You're not going to be able to mask mediocre interior DL with future all-pro LBs anymore like you could as late as the mid-2000s (Joe Kines 2005 defense for example).

Therefore, people are paying top dollar for difference makers on the defensive line. However the scuttlebutt is that Alabama prefers not to have drastically different payouts from the University's loosely associated collective but instead sells targets on their personal opportunities by being associated with our brand. For example, the money Milroe and others have made from LANK products.

That's just not going to work with some prospects. They don't want you telling them that they need to put in their own work to get their maximum value when Texas and others are just handing them the bag. In fact, a lot of the complaints on here about Milroe and others acting like marketers or politicians is probably due to the structure our program has encouraged for maximizing their NIL value. You don't have all that bullshite if you're just handing the players a bag and managing the appearances and such they do through the collective.

DT recruiting has been a lost art since Saban arrived in 07, it's not something new with Debeor.
I went all the way back to 2012 to 2021 and got tired of looking.

3 5 stars: 2013 A Robinson, 2015 D Payne, 2019 A Alfanso, 2 oos, 1 instate, 2 were great, 1 was a head case

15 4 stars: 5 instate with Q being the only great one, 14 oos with Barramore being the only one that jumped out for only half a season at that.

J Allen was a DE initially in the class with A Robinson in 2013 which provided the great lines of 2015/16. The 2019 class on paper was great but was average on the field.

Bama doesn't produce a bunch of star DT, just average to slightly above, so we have to recruit OOS and compete with everyone else for the potential great DT's

Most elite DL players didn’t want to eat blockers in a 3-4 two gap defense. We lost numerous 5* guys for that reason alone.

Now that we’re in a one gap attacking defense we have the advantage of being the type of system where DL guys can put up stats, but we also just lost the greatest coach in CFB history who was a defensive savant.

Our attrition is in part because we’re changing systems.

Our attrition is in part because we’re having to evaluate who is worth what in an NIL era where we have a fixed budget to fill a roster.

We’ll see how the DL shuffle ends up, but we have talent up front.

Oh no, that’s a heartbreak. Only thing Russell hasn’t won this year.

Wonder what the knock is on this kid? He put up better numbers for Saraland this season than Ryan Williams did last year when he won Mr. Football.

ETA: Just looked at his On3 Profile. He's 5'7". Yeah, that'll do it.

I’ve stood beside him at the ball park. I’m a legit 5’9 and there is no way that dude is 5’7 lol. 5’5 maybe.

If he’s that good and really fast/quick, hell, I would sign him anyway. He couldn’t play DB but as a WR/KR, he might work out. Brandon Brooks was 5’5”.

How fast is he? If he's a 4.4 or better type guy I kind of agree. Lots of short guys have excelled in CFB, but most of them have been speed merchants.

No clue how fast he is but if he IS fast, can make guys miss, can catch the ball AND has balls the size of tractor trailers, would LOVE to see him in crimson.

Dallas Cowboys RB Deuce Vaughn is 5’6” and he was very effective at K-State. So, while not ideal, a little guy can possibly be effective.

I just watched his film. Kind of reminds me of David Palmer. Very, very shifty, good hands and good speed.

The BOL crew and Steve Wiltfong have put in RPMs for Zyan Gibson to Alabama.

Hope this calms down the "he needs to focus on in-state recruiting" crowd.
