I’m still not sold on Buchner being anything more than an older talent to push Milroe and Simpson. Doesn’t matter how “familiar” Buchner is with Rees. It’s still the BAMA offense and he is still behind everyone else already in the QB room. I believe the QB situation likely plays out like the ‘11 season did between Sims and McCarron. Very similar situation there. As for Buchner, he is the ‘23 version of ‘14 Jake Coker. We had no proven QB in the room (Cornwell, Bateman,Morris, Blake Sims) and Saban brought in another guy, Coker. It pushed Sims to win the job. I think the same happens this time as well.

He was in the same recruiting class as Milroe. But I agree that he wasn't brought in to be the guy. If he wants to be QB1 he'll have to win it.

I should’ve used “more experienced” instead of older.

Buchner was brought in to be the guy b/c the two upperclassmen guys aren't up to "the guy" status at this time. I won't be surprised at all if Buchner is starting against Texas.

I thought Buchner looked average last season. Don't see how that changes if he didn't even light up Notre Dame spring ball.

A lot of hope on that guy.

Anyways, I just hope either Ty or Milroe (praying for Ty because I don't trust Milroe) to step up. If they don't next season will be rough

It will be interesting to see how Buckner plays with upgraded talent around him on offense. I think he’s a good QB, but needs to stop forcing throws when receiver is not open. I don’t think Saban would have brought him in if he didn’t think he was an upgrade at QB.

I am confused here. It was my understanding he started the 1st 2 games and than was sidelined for the next 16 weeks due to injury missing the next 10 games before returning for their bowl game. How great can someone look in that situation?

LINK ]Who Nick Saban was really talking to when he called out Jimbo Fisher (espn)

When Saban said A&M and Fisher "bought every player" that was his rallying cry to Alabama and its boosters to fund NIL or get left behind.

This is very good news. DL should be our top priority this year. Need some Q's and Payne's this year.
