Screw Saban's opinion on that.

So what Georgia was better than Notre Dame that year?

How in the ever living hell could you watch those two games and not come away with that opinion? Or 3-4 other teams Alabama played in 2012.

He has superior athleticism.

With that said he never really showed out in the games I saw IMG play on ESPN.

I don't think he was saying the Notre Dame was better than UGA, he was saying "why does it matter?" And he's right, it doesn't matter. They were undefeated and looked pretty good, but it turned out that Alabama was on another level. That was settled on the field, though, like it should have been.

Saban doesn't care that Georgia played them closer than Notre Dame, he's just using coach speak to justify Alabama being in the Playoff if they lose this weekend.

I think he was saying that UGA was better than ND.

Pretty sure his point was that with the scheduling inequalities inherent to CFB (Notre Dame is a lock to get in and gets a bye this week, Clemson has a scrimmage with a 7-5 Pitt team, and us and UGA have to play each other in what may be a play in game) you either have to eliminate conference championships and expand the playoff or scrap the whole concept of a "true" national championship altogether and go back to how it was in the 60s and 70s where you just played your schedule and if the AP or Coaches Poll decided you were #1 at the end of it you could claim a championship.

If Pickens were faster he would already be a 5-star. Tremendous balance and concentration.

It's like the ball finds his hands.

If he can qualify we have to find a way to get him in.

I agree. I have no issue with expanding the playoffs to the top 8 teams. But it needs to be the top 8 teams and nothing to do with conference championships. All these idiots I keep hearing call in this week and suggest the power 5 champions get in are wrong and apparently do not watch football because if they did and got their way come Sunday we could have a 1 loss, a 3 loss, a 3 loss, a 4 loss, and a 5 loss in the playoffs.

I think what Saban is saying is right now the committee is saying UA and UGA are 2 of the top 4 teams in the country. The game tomorrow should not change that. But the outcome could allow a team the committee does not consider a top 4 to become one even though they play a weaker opponent. I would rather see the playoffs determined the week prior to the conference CG so teams like Clemson who are in a scrimmage or ND who is sitting home do not gain an advantage from this upcoming weekend.

It's not gonna happen. We've apparently decided to load up on DL and LBs in this class.

I'm fine with it, but Pickens is an enormous talent. Maybe we'll get to re-recruit him in 2 years.

Last night a good BOL discussion thread with several of the top insiders provided some nice recruiting nuggets:

We may take 28-30 if we land the right ones.

Sanders, Neal, Dean, Sopsher -- they coming.

Webb -- One of the best insiders is confident.

Staff will be out a lot next week seeing targets.

If 1-2 commits drop out of the class it's more likely to be the ones who aren't planning to sign in December (K Robinson, C Williams).

Our Top Targets list is now updated accordingly.

We need to be careful. We were the ones that benefited from what you are describing last year. We sat home on championship weekend and rested and healed while UGA and Auburn beat each other’s brains out.

I think that is the point is how teams are benefiting in the current system. Us and OSU have benefited by not playing in a CCG. CU is benefiting by playing Pitt tomorrow and ND benefiting by not playing at all.

In the end the team that will get screwed tomorrow is UGA. The CFB committee mission is to put the 4 best teams in the country in the playoffs. Right now they consider UGA a top 4 at #4. Meaning the committee only sees 3 teams that currently can beat them. So if UA beats them tomorrow as the committee, based on rankings, think they should it does not change that UGA is still the 4th best team in the country. So if UGA does not win tomorrow I think they should still go.

Why should they be penalized for playing 1 of the only 3 teams the committee thinks can beat them while CU plays a 5 loss team or ND stays home. Even with the loss it should not change how the committee perceives them.

This thread is getting derailed a little too much lately into prolonged debates about various topics like current player abilities, NFL draft prospects, possible coaching changes, what Saban said about the playoffs, etc.

Instead of posting in here about off-topic stuff that's likely to trigger a lot of discussion, we should start threads for those.

Sometimes the board out there gets stagnant. And some folks may be hesitant to chime in on a non-recruiting topic in here, but would if there was new or active thread for that topic.

I didn't realize 11 out of the 22 committed are early enrollees. That's a shite ton.

Becareful, I once mentioned this and Cobra chewed my old crusty arse for a minute. (But you have 14k+ posts and I only 200+; so you deserve to be able to comment, I guess.)
I completely agree, I have no insights into the recruiting and no contacts inside the program or even in T'loosa; so I depend on this thread for news, analysis and insights.
Thank you of trying to redirect the thread.

What is the latest on Devonta Lee - seems like he was LSU bound correct? Is he still a priority?
