Texas A&M looks and sounds bad. Hope this is not going on at most schools, especially not with us. Every request for a transfer will now have to be sweated out.

I doubt UA staff intentionally breaks NCAA rules.
A. Bama doesn't need to resort to that.
B. It could derail the Dynasty run.
C. So, why take the risk?

Not to mention I think it was a bad career move for Jimbo to take the job. If Herman can turn the program around at Texas, a&m will struggle for instate recruits. With MSU ans Ole Miss rotating as decent teams and depending on the future of LSU, a&m could stay around 5th or 6th in the conference.

So I could see them doing these and why.

Mr. Starr had been in failing health for awhile. Hell, I hope I look that good at 85!!Glad to see him well enough to make a visit.

On a side note, did any of you know that when Bart graduated at UA, he was an assistant coach at Warrior High School in Warrior, AL before being drafted by the Packers? He coached a couple of my uncles.

He was one of my summer camp counselors the summer before he went to Green Bay...a fine man!

Of our remaining linebacker targets, who would you say is the most likely to end up in the class?

Hank: "Nakobe Dean IMO. Torn between Kayvon Thibodeaux and Henry To'oto'o after that."

He changed the Nick Cross one, he must have accidently submitted the PSU or it was an error in the software. I can only own up to so many mistakes .

You are technically correct, my friend.

I just checked and found that FSU mod Brendan Sonnone made a Nick Cross CB pick to PSU at 3:20 pm yesterday and then made one to FSU at 7:34 am today.

I think FSU will have a really good class..Top 5. they are using the SWAC pitch for FSU. In the wake of today’s news and constant media it’s working. He is using the race card as my white friends would say..lol

i read most of the texag stuff. but all the way, i kept getting the feeling it has more to do with sour grapes and a very convenient get back, at a school. it just all seems a bit too convenient for me. but hey, ya just never know.

I believe this and I don't think it's wise. Seems like a short-term solution that will run its course quickly.

A-List No. 1: Clay Webb a unique, 'very low risk' prospect

At one point, two of college football's most interesting figures were at Oxford High School at the same time with the same intention -- to see Clay Webb.

But for a little while, those two -- Michigan's Jim Harbaugh and LSU's Ed Orgeron -- were forced to sit around together inside of an office as they waited to see Oxford's five-star offensive lineman.

"You could just tell it was kind of awkward for them," said Oxford head coach Ryan Herring, who was there with them. "They exchanged pleasantries, but then they both just wanted to see Clay Webb. It was just kind of weird."

As it was too when Webb did finally arrive.

Webb couldn't stay for long and the two coaches had to talk to him at the same time.

"He walked in and they were sitting there," Herring said, laughing, "and they both just wanted to be able to shake hands with him."

That's what life has been like for a while for the No. 1 player on this year's A-List.

Webb is an elite offensive line prospect being pursued by many of the nation's top programs but is also an interesting and unique guy who spends a lot of time reading and also playing with LEGOs because of his interest in engineering.

A recruiting reporter wrote during the spring that, while other top prospects sat around on their phones at a recruiting event, Webb was off in a corner reading a book.

He has a passion for science fiction and history books in particular and told Rivals during the spring that one of his recent reads at the time was a book about ancient warfare in Greece.

Not something you'd expect to hear from a five-star recruit.

"The great thing about him and what I like a lot about kids like him is you're never going to have to worry about him being in trouble as far as doing the wrong things away from school or being with the wrong people," Herring said. "He's not a kid that's going to get caught up in trash."

Early challenges molded Clay Webb, state's top recruit

The five-star offensive lineman, who holds offers from Alabama and Auburn, saw his first varsity action before he was in high school.

College coaches like that. But they also very much like Webb's athleticism and overall skill set.

The 6-foot-3, 295-pound Webb, who is also a state champion wrestler, is the top center and 20th-best overall prospect in next year's recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

"He is a very low-risk prospect," 247Sports director of scouting Barton Simmons said. "To me, the bust factor is as low as anybody in this class with Clay Webb because he's an extremely athletic, extremely competitive prospect who is, I think, an athlete first and offensive lineman second. And that's what you want out of a prospect at the line of scrimmage. He's got a great wrestling background. He's flexible. And, because of the wrestling background, I think we've only seen snippets of what he can be from a physical standpoint.

"When he can actually focus on getting bigger and adding weight and keeping it on, I think the power is going to only multiply. But, already, the feet, the athleticism, the ability to play with leverage, those are all things that he's top-tier and elite at."

That's why coaches like Jim Harbaugh and Ed Orgeron continue to make the trip to Oxford.

There was another day during which Alabama, Auburn, Clemson and Georgia all had coaches stop by the school.

That probably won't stop anytime soon.

Webb, as he's said before, doesn't plan on deciding on a school until December.

"I want to finish my football season," Webb said this summer. "I don't want there to be any distractions. I don't want to get caught up in too much stuff."

Until then, there will be more visits from coaches like Harbaugh and Coach O, which will probably make it necessary to step away at times and decompress through some of those other hobbies.

"He's a really exciting prospect," Simmons said. "Because he's unique athletically and because he's not maxed out physically, I think he's got a chance to be the best center in the Class of 2019. I think he looks like a multi-year starter. I think he looks like an anchor of a big-time offensive line in the future."

LINK ]The class of 2020 gets a Top247 overhaul (247Sports)

quote:

With the high school season upon us and the college football season not far behind,247Sports has overhauled our Top247 for the class of 2020. The new ranking release reflects a reset on the class of 2020 following a full cycle of camps, combines, 7on7s and offseason workouts as we’ve better familiarized ourselves with the new junior class.

Junior years are the most important in the recruiting timeline, so this list will continue to evolve and change steadily with the commencement of the season. But this is a good starting point for what should be a busy fall in the 2020 class.

FIVE-STAR MOVES

Defensive end Bryan Bresee remains our No. 1 prospect in the class of 2020 after checking out in impressive fashion over the summer as an underclassman at The Opening Finals. (Bresee went 6-4-2 in the OL/DL challenge reps we tracked there). With the continued physical maturation of Sa’vell Smalls as an edge rusher and outside linebacker, he has jumped wide receiver Julian Fleming to take over the No. 2 spot nationally.

The only addition to the five-star family though comes from outside linebacker Mekhail Sherman, out of Washington (D.C.) St. John’s. As a guy that was dominant last year as a sophomore in pads, Sherman also happens to be one of the most impressive guys we’ve seen in person this offseason regardless of class. At The Opening Finals, Sherman’s testing numbers spoke to his upside with a 4.53 40 at 6-foot-3, 231 pounds and a 33-inch vertical. His season kicks off on Saturday at Johns Creek in Georgia and Ohio State currently holds the lone Crystal Ball predictions.

THE QUARTERBACKS

Since its initial release, St. John Bosco’s DJ Uiagalelei and Mater Dei’s Bryce Young have endured out of California has the top two quarterbacks in this cycle but with our latest update, they get some company from Texas. Malik Hornsby is now ranked as the No. 2 quarterback in the class out of Missouri City (Texas) Fort Bend Marshall.

Hornsby is now the No. 12 player in the country, up from No. 174. At 6-foot-2, with a 10.78 100 meter time to his credit, Hornsby has a ceiling that not many can touch. Be wary of thinking he's just an athlete, though. We feel like he has the upside to finish as the top quarterback in this class. Currently Texas and Texas A&M are battling for him, among others.

Another Texas quarterback joined Hornsby on the move. Longhorn commit Hudson Card showed us enough this offseason to push him up towards the cusp of the Top100. He showed elite competitiveness and athleticism last fall at wide receiver for Lake Travis High School and when Ohio State commit Matthew Baldwin went down with injury, Card was outstanding in relief. We expect more of that effort from Card in his first full season as a starter and gave him a preemptive boost based on seeing him throw this offseason.

An intriguing new addition to the list comes by way of New Hampshire in Parker McQuarrie. He’s 6-foot-7, 208 pounds with a big arm that plays poor competition but he sure is compelling on tape. We saw enough from him this offseason to get him in the Top247 while Boston College, Michigan, Rutgers and Pitt have seen enough to offer him.

THE RISERS

OG Luke Wypler, Montvale (N.J.) St. Joseph – The Ohio State commit is what we want out of offensive line prospects, as an ultra-athletic, multi-sport athlete with physical upside to grow into his body. We’ve ranked him as a center and he’s now No. 1 at his position and No. 17 overall.

WDE Reggie Grimes, Mt. Juliet (Tenn.) – The new No. 1 player in the state of Tennessee is all upside. He’s got length, elite athleticism with freakish testing numbers and a versatile multi-position background in addition to pedigree with a former NFL father. He’s now ranked No. 22 in the country. An Alabama legacy, the tide holds two Crystal Ball picks.

TE Darnell Washington, Las Vegas (Nev.) Desert Pines – Don’t be surprised if Washington is up contending with Arik Gilbert as one of the top jumbo athletes in the country by season’s end. The Las Vegas native is massive at 6-7+ but has rare athleticism. He’s now ranked No. 47 in the country.

WR Jermaine Burton, Calabasas (Calif.) – At his new school, Burton is already turning heads. He is one of the fastest wide receivers in the country and showed out all spring and summer. He’s worked himself into the Top100 at No. 57.

RB Jalen Berger, Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco Prep – We’re cheating here because Berger has already caught our attention with his play this fall. The versatile, big back at 6-0, 190-pounds has moved up to No. 65 nationally. Ohio State holds three Cyrstal Ball picks.

WR John Humphreys, Newport Beach (Calif.) Corona Del Mar – Though he can play all over the field, most of his offers have arrived as a wide receiver where he brings a 6-5 frame and had 1100 yards receiving as a sophomore. Humphreys’ is up to No. 73. Stanford is the current Crystal Ball favorite.

WDE Chantz Williams, Orange Park (Fla.) Oakleaf – A slender, but athletic defensive end that is starting to take the next step physically, Williams is an elite upside edge rusher who has moved inot the No. 80 spot nationally. Miami holds two Crystal Ball picks.

NOTABLE NEWCOMERS

SDE Gervon Dexter, Lake Wales (Fla.) – The highest debut on the list comes from Dexter, a massive, physical specimen that is still new to football but wowed in the spring and summer and looks like a freakish enough body to emerge as a national recruit. Though he’s still a project, he’s ranked No. 81 nationally.

WR/ATH Jakhi Douglas, Houma (La.) Terrebonne – A high school quarterback, Douglas is undersized but he’s blistering fast and he was dominant throughout the offseason playing wide receiver, his likely position in college. He’s now ranked No. 85 nationally.

CB Demorie Tate, Orlando (Fla.) Freedom – A long cornerback with the athleticism to play running back in high school, the Florida State commit looks like he has all the tools you want with size, physicality and cover athleticism. He’s inside the Top100 at No. 88 nationally.

WR Keandre Lambert, Norfolk (Va.) Maury – A 4.56 40 yard dash in the spring validated the speed Lambert showed on tape as a sophomore en route to over 1,000 yards receiving. Texas A&M and Virginia Tech are battling for him.

SDE Tyler Baron, Nashville (Tenn.) Ensworth – The younger brother of former Virginia Tech standout Woody Baron, Tyler has the physical upside to project a number of different ways and we expect a breakout season from the 6-4.5, 250-pounder if he stays healthy.

OT Nash Hutmacher, Chamberlain (S.D.) – A high level wrestler with impressive athletic and strength traits, Hutmacher joins the Top247 at No. 123 due to really impressive physical upside. Iowa State, Nebraska and Wisconsin are among his offers.

CB Myles Slusher, Broken Arrow (Okla.) – A playmaking cornerback that flashes with physicality and ball skills. He had four interceptions as a sophomore and we’ve debuted him at No. 124 nationally. Oklahoma, LSU and Nebraska have all offered already.

LINK ]Alabama commits, targets represented in latest Top247 for 2020 (BamaOnLine)

quote:

Alabama’s 2020 class ranks No. 2 in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings, one spot behind Miami.

The Crimson Tide’s class is made-up of seven commitments, the majority of which have joined the fold in the last five months.

On Wednesday, 247Sports revamped its 2020 Top247 Rankings. The Tide’s commitment list went largely unaffected with a few exceptions. Five of Alabama’s seven pledges are represented within the Top247 heading into their junior seasons.

Here’s a look at where things stand.

As mentioned above, most commits went unaffected as far as their numerical grading goes. Four-star defensive tackle Jayson Jones checks in as the No. 29 player in the country and will be in the conversation for a fifth star for the next two years as he competes for Calera (Ala.). Four-star inside linebacker Jackson Bratton out of Muscle Shoals (Ala.) maintained the same grade of 91, but moved from No. 136 to No. 146 in the nation.

Other Alabama commits represented in the elite range include 4-star cornerback Malachi Moore out of Hewitt-Trussville (Ala.) at No. 93 and 4-star cornerback Javier Morton out of Georgia at No. 101. While still within the Top247, 4-star receiver Dazalin Worsham dropped outside the Top100 to No. 211 in the country. The Hewitt-Trussville (Ala.) product has plenty of opportunities to showcase his skillset this upcoming season starting this Saturday as the Huskies take on Cedar Grove on ESPN.

The Tide’s remaining pair of commits in 3-star quarterback Carson Beck and 3-star tight end Caden Clark are not yet represented in the Top247, however, both have two years to change that. This upcoming season, Beck will take the reigns as full-time starter at Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin.

Other prospects in the state of Alabama that made the Top247 include 4-star athlete and Tennessee commit Kristian Story at No. 103, 4-star outside linebacker Cameron Riley at No. 125, 4-star quarterback Robby Ashford at No. 186, 4-star wide receiver and LSU commit Kris Abrams-Draine at No. 188, and 4-star running back Roydell Williams at No. 244.

Several of Alabama’s top targets in the cycle outside the state are also some of the highest-rated players in the country.

Five-star linebacker Sav’ell Smalls out of Seattle checks in as the No. 2 overall prospect. He was in Tuscaloosa for the Champions Cookout back in June, which marked his second time on campus.

Five-star outside linebacker Mekhail Sherman is in as the No. 5 player in the nation up from No. 26. He is the teammate of Alabama running back pledge Keilan Robinson at Washington (D.C.) St. John’s College.

Elite running back Kendall Milton, one of the Tide’s top offensive targets, checks in at No. 10 in the nation.

The Tide will try to go three years in a row at Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy and sign the nation’s No. 16 player in 4-star edge rusher Chris Braswell.

Alabama legacy and big-time Jack linebacker target Reggie Grimes makes a big leap up 41 spots to the No. 22 player in the nation.

You can check out the rest of the updated Top247 here.
