Looking at Alabama's ILB targets (BOL-VIP)
BOL 'Cruitin' Chat (Hank) nuggets:
quote:
Dean is expected at Florida State next weekend for his first visit to Tallahassee. There’s an outside chance he stops off at Florida as well.
BOL 'Cruitin' Chat (Hank) nuggets:
quote:
Q: Nakobe Dean?
A: I'm just not ready to make a pick yet. I think Alabama is right there with UGA and Texas A&M. Just want to see how his remaining official visits go.
Q: Give us 5 recruits you feel confident of being in Bama’s class.
A: Sanders, Hill, Webb, Ika, Wright

Top 10 performers in the Northwest in the spring/summer
quote:
The 7v7, camp and combine season began in early February in the Northwest region, and it gave 247Sports recruiting analyst Brandon Huffman the opportunity to see talent from across the region.
It began with numerous 7v7 tournaments around the West, continued with the Pylon Elite 7v7 National Championships in Nevada, The Opening Regionals in the Bay Area and Southern California, Adidas 7v7 Nationals in Southern California, the #AveryStrong Elite 32 in Seattle, the #brAvery Northwest 7v7 Tour in Oregon and Washington, the Elite 11 Regional in Las Vegas, May Madness in Seattle, a number of college showcases and other camps throughout the Northwest and culminated at The Opening Finals in Frisco, Texas, earlier this month.
During the events, hundreds of prospects were scouted and evaluated, and there were a number of outstanding performances.
But this is about the best and this feature takes a look at who was the best of the best from the Northwest throughout the spring, players who shined at just about every event, including marquee events like Adidas Nationals, The Opening Regionals or the Elite 11 as well as at the college showcases, with college coaches looking on.
Who is the Alpha Dog from the circuit? What about the top surprise or the prospect we only saw once but plan to keep an eye on once the 2018 high school season begins?
Find the answers here.

J.T. Tuimoloau, Sammamish (Wash.) Eastside Catholic, DE, 2021
Had we seen Tuimoloau actually working at the position he'll play in college this spring, he may have been the top player on this list. Instead, he makes it largely based on what he did as a tight end on the 7v7 circuit. And what he did is show that he might be the best tight end in the Northwest, regardless of class, right now, and he doesn't even play it for his high school team. That's how good he was, at the Adidas Regionals 7v7 and Adidas Nationals 7v7 a couple weeks later plus the AveryStrong Elite 32. He's a physical freak who weighed in at 270 at Alabama's camp, where he impressed Nick Saban and landed an offer from the Tide, but moves like he's 225. He also plays basketball and AAU took him away from a lot of camps, but when he was at an event, he showed why he's so heavily touted already. Tuimoloau is arguably the top 2021 prospect in the West and will be in discussion for the top player in the country in his class.

Sav'ell Smalls, Seattle (Wash.) Garfield, OLB, 2020
Smalls was the best defensive prospect we saw this spring from the West and probably had the single best camp performance we saw from anyone in the region at the Elite 11 Vegas. We thought he should have been one of the underclassmen at The Opening Finals, but alas, he had to settle for All-Camp honors in Vegas, where he was this close to earning Alpha Dog honors from the day. He was impossible for linemen to block in Vegas. He also looked good at the rush end spot with his Garfield team at the Rise Football Showcase at PLU in June, where he drew the attention of Stanford defensive coordinator Lance Anderson and Washington co-defensive coordinators Jimmy Lake and Pete Kwiatkowski, who couldn't take their eyes off Small in his scrimmages. Smalls isn't a 7v7 guy as a pass-rusher, but he still did a ton of it with his Garfield team and his HEIR 7v7 team, working as a tight end and a middle linebacker, showing his athleticism, his hands and quickness. Smalls is the No. 1 player in the West in the 2020 class and among the top three players in the country for his class and has offers from all over, including Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Tennessee from across the country plus Stanford, Oregon, USC and Washington on him hard.

Kayvon Thibodeaux highlights from The Opening Finals
quote:
Kayvon Thibodeaux headed to Texas for The Opening with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove. Once the undisputed top player in the 2019 class, Thibodeaux had slipped a bit.
After he had been solid, but not spectacular, at The Opening Los Angeles, Thibodeaux had plenty of eyes on him. Some analysts were even questioning his five-star status heading into The Opening. Thibodeaux was intent on showing why he was has been so highly regarded for such a long time.
And he did just that.
There was no question of if he should be considered among the elite prospects in the country. The explosive Thibodeaux ran a 4.67-second 40-yard dash and produced a stellar 4.21-second short shuttle time. He then went out and earned ‘Final 5’ status as one of the top five defensive linemen showcasing a variety of moves that often built on a previous move he had beaten an offensive lineman with.
“He was so quick off the ball and his speed rush was impossible to stop,” 247Sports West recruiting team wrote. “He was consistently getting around tackles with that speed and won more reps than any defensive end.
National recruiting analyst Barton Simmons added:
“Thibodeaux played with the purpose of a No. 1 player, playing like a guy that was determined to assert himself as that alpha among alphas. He flashed elite edge speed, showed some punch that we hadn’t seen before and played with a competitive temperament that was obvious.
The performance of the 6-foot-4.5, 239-pound Thousand Oaks (Calif.) Oaks Christian defensive end helped him regain ground in the 247Sports rankings as he moved back into the top three. Thibodeaux is only ranked No. 3 at his weak side defensive end position, but is also the No. 3 player in the country behind Nolan Smith and Zach Harrison.
Thibodeaux, however, is the alpha dog of the 247Sports Composite rankings, retaking the No. 1 overall spot. He recently named a top five of Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Oregon and USC.
We were able to capture a lot of Thibodeaux’s activity at The Opening as we filmed him going through drills and all of his snaps for three days doing one on ones, including two days of work in pads — a rarity during the offseason and a much better representation for one on ones in the trenches.

Shortly after the current NCAA dead period ends, Alabama football will host a second Champions Cookout of the summer. Two priority 5-Star prospects, Trey Sanders (RB) and Darnell Wright (OL) are expected to attend. Sanders has talked about a decision before the start of his high school season. Wright will not make a decision until later but getting the No. 7 rated player in the nation back to Tuscaloosa would be a huge boost.
Another top 5-Star prospect, Daxton Hill may make a decision in the next few weeks. Hill is a Tide priority and most experts believe it will come down to Alabama football and Oklahoma. The Sooner have a late-July cookout also and where Hill decides to visit will indicate which team leads.
Another July date of note is the 30th when Ishmael Sopsher is scheduled to announce a top five. Sopsher is the DT at the top of the Tide’s Big Board and the No. 5 overall prospect in the 2019 class. The five will include his two leaders, LSU and Alabama football.
