LINK ]BREAKING: Four-star RB Keilan Robinson commits to Bama (BamaOnLine)

Alabama’s recruiting momentum continues as four-star running back LINK ]Keilan Robinson has committed to the Crimson Tide (twitter commit video).

The Washington (D.C.) St. John’s College product chose Alabama over offers from Florida State, Georgia and Maryland, among several others, on Wednesday night.

The East Coast back visited Tuscaloosa earlier this month and worked out with several of his teammates from St. John’s. Robinson was also at the Capstone in early April after the Tide offered in February.

"It means a lot," Robinson told 247Sports’ Brian Dohn of the UA offer earlier this year. "I always knew that I am one of the best players in the country, and to have the best college football team in the country offer me a chance to play for their team only proves that. I know that Bama wins and brings the best out of their players. They expect nothing but championship effort."

BamaOnLine was told in late May that Robinson was favoring the Tide, however, it wasn’t clear at the time he had the green light to commit. Clearly he received the ability to join the class after working out on campus earlier in June.

Offensive coordinator Mike Locksley has been cleaning up on the recruiting trail in the DMV and surrounding area this cycle. Along with Robinson, the Tide offensive coordinator has landed four-star inside linebacker Shane Lee from Baltimore (Md.) St Frances Academy and four-star safety DeMarcco Hellams from Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic.

At 5-foot-9, 184 pounds, Robinson is rated the No. 18 running back and the No. 346 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Robinson is commitment No. 17 for the Crimson Tide in the 2019 recruiting cycle, strengthening the Tide’s grip on the No. 1 spot in the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings. The Tide sits with a score of 276.05.

The four-star back’s commitment likely won’t end the Tide’s recruiting efforts at the running back position. We’ve spent a lot of the month of June talking about five-star back Trey Sanders among several others.

This isn’t the first time Alabama has turned to St. John’s College in recent years. Bama linebacker Terrell Lewis hails from the D.C. program.

With Robinson on board, one has to imagine Alabama now sits in even greater contention for other top prospects from St. John’s College. The Tide offered a slew of them during their stay on campus earlier this month including 2020 five-star linebacker Mekhail Sherman and 2020 four-star cornerback Luke Hill.

With the latest pledge, Alabama’s class is quickly filling up ahead of the fall. This time last year, Alabama held just a handful of commitments and resided outside the top 50 spot of the rankings. The script has been flipped in the 2019 cycle as the Tide has had a firm grasp atop the recruiting stands for the last eight weeks and doesn’t look like it will lose that spot anytime soon … if ever.

Crimson Tide gets 4-star commitment

Keilan Robinson long fancied himself playing for Alabama, and the No. 18 running back in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite is now heading there.

The Washington (D.C.) St. John’s standout announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide Wednesday evening, and he shared the details of his decision with 247Sports.

”It feels great, the 5-foot-10, 184-pound Robinson said. “I want to be the best. To be the best you gotta go against the best and I’ll be doing that everyday. It feels great knowing I can compete for a championship as soon as I step foot on campus.”

Another key aspect of his decision was how he will fit into Alabama’s offense. Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Mike Locksley has strong ties to the Washington, D.C. area, and it played a factor. So did the way Locksley plans on using Robinson in the offense.

When Robinson was on campus in the spring, Locksley did a very good job of explaining in detail about his fit into the offense. Robinson also believes he will be a unique fit and give the Crimson Tide something it does not have in the program

“I’ll be an all-purpose back,” Robinson said. “I’m not a 6-foot, 225-plus (pound) bulldozer like all of their running backs now. I can do everything and I bring that spark to the offense. I’m the lightning to Alabama’s thunder.”

Robinson’s offer list was impressive. Florida State, Penn State, Michigan and Notre Dame were all highly interested in the dynamic player, But his relationship with Alabama’s coaching staff and his comfort with the players in the program lead to his decision.

“They don’t have a guy like me,” Robinson said. “I can run up the middle, outside, line up in the slot, and return kicks. Coach (Nick) Saban and coach Locks were telling me how I could come in and touch the ball in a variety of ways, and that’s basically what I do now.”

Robinson joins the ever growing a list of prospects from the area to choose Alabama. Baltimore St. Frances linebacker Shane Lee, who is good friends with Robinson, and Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha defensive back DeMarco Hellams already committed to Alabama in the 2019 class.

In weighing his options, Robinson said the feel of the campus, the football prestige of the program and the ability to graduate players led to his decision.

”The biggest factor was being comfortable and thinking long term,” he said. “I felt very comfortable on campus and around all the coaches and players.

“This is also a business decision. This decision is gonna affect the rest of my life. Alabama can prepare me for the rest of my life on the field and off the field.”

Robinson will sign his binding national letter of intent in December.

Auburn commitment Bo Nix hold

I know this guy was never going anywhere but Auburn, but this is a commit that I wish we'd been able to pull off. He's not the elite physical specimen like Lawrence or Fields, but he is very, very good, and was born to be a QB. Under Gus, he's going to sit behind Gatewood or Willis, and that is a travesty.

Jesus Christ. He put on 40 lbs and maintained his speed. I'll be a pretty happy camper if this kid can do that. Also someone should probably be testing barley's pee

I really liked Glass as a rb in this class. With this commitment I guess that ship has sailed.

Interesting they took this commitment this early especially if you believe some of the names that have been told to wait.

Would love to know why the staff has hom ranked so high.
