Unless I am mistaken the SEC put in a rule that teams could no longer sign and place. Remember the Houston Nutt Rule?

However, there is a new rule in place where you can’t get a spot from a non-qualifier back. Say a prospect signs on Dec. 20, the date of the Early Signing Period, but fails to meet the academic requirements later to get into school. That young man still counts towards the 25. In the past a school would get that counter back and could just go add a JUCO prospect in June, elevate a greyshirt or even take a high school senior that is still out there unsigned. If that prospect fails to qualify under the new rule, the school doesn’t get that spot back. This new rule — as some have incorrectly feared — does not mean you can't sign over 25 players. You simply need to have wiggle room created via early enrollees, as always — you just can't take too many risks and lose that initial counter.

I think it still leaves an extra scholarship open for the 2019 signing class. I could be wrong. If I'm reading that right, we just can't have anyone take his place for this year.

Agree. Looks like we should be able to sign someone this cycle and back count him to the 2018 class. Does that put us at 27 spots this cycle plus any blue/gray shirts? We could be pushing 28-29 guys this class if so. Good year to have alot of spots!

Went over to Dirt Burglars and a guy there is being pissy about Dax. He said mom doesn't like Saban and I asked when did she express that sentiment, before or after this past visit

The "coach" "insider" that supposedly knows Quad is saying this now.

Yes let’s motivate kids and the fan base over a defeat from 1991.

This will get em fired up!

In fairness I see your point but it’s not an opponent on the level we are used to playing.

I'm reading that thread now. That guy doesn't know anything. He's just trying to be important

Not so fast, my friend. Although it's arguable that we'll have an additional unused initial counter spot from 2018 giving us 2 now, we'll only have 1 unused signee spot. Anyone new who goes on a scholarship counts against signee limits. The only player(s) that can truly use the initial counter spot Davis failed to use is someone who's already counted against our signee limits. So in effect, only Davis can be "backcounted" into his unused initial counter spot if/when he enrolls after Juco. The signee limits effectively eliminate replacing a non-qualifier with anyone else who hasn't already counted against our signee limits and failed to qualify at that time.

WhyTF is the NCAA trying to make it so hard to give a kid a scholarship ?

Whoever is making "rules" like that needs to be flogged straight in the ballz.

I don't have a problem with the rules. To be eligible for a college football scholarship, you have to be academically qualified. So you'd better handle your business in elementary, middle and high school if that's your goal. Otherwise, you're gonna wind up going to Juco.

If I was considering signing a kid who might not qualify, I'd at least make sure he's taken an early ACT test and gotten a decent score, before I'd give him an NLI to sign.

Davis made a cryptic tweet that sounds like he feels let down by others and that is why he has to go to Juco. But unless he truly is a victim of some circumstances that made it impossible for him to do better in school and therefore also do better on his ACT test(s), then it seems to me he mainly has himself to blame.

I like how the NCAA designed the rules revision adding the 25 annual signees limit. It curtails oversigning, discourages schools from signing players who are high risk to not qualify and encourages the schools who did sign them to take them after juco.

It also helps encourage what's best for the student athletes' interests. If they want to be recruited and signed by a 4-year school, they'd better take care of their business in elementary, middle and high school. And if they're a high risk of failing to qualify, it probably is best that they go to juco and get better prepared to succeed in earning their bachelors degree.

I think the NCAA got it right in the way they designed the revisions adding the new 25 signees per academic year limit.

Man this kid looks skinny ! But I think he’s one of the underrated playmakers at the WR position. Hope we have room for him .

As long as we have a legit shot and this wasn't just a trip to get free stuff, I'm happy

I'd love to sign the kid. The sky is the limit

it literally should be you can take as many players as you need to get to 85. No need to make it rocket science
