I get that. I'm just saying that's never stopped Saban from doing it, and I don't expect any different in a loaded 2019 cycle. 28 signees + 2 gray/blue-shirts = 30 for the 2019 class. All I'm saying is that it's a real possibility. 28, 29, 30...doesn't really matter...it's a big class. Which is fantastic.

Indeed!

Speaking of D-Lineman, has any news concerning any of them come out? There are three quality DL's right now that I know of

If he is willing to pay his way, use that scholarship on a transfer DL.

I can't remember a year when we didn't have 2-3 guys transfer in the summer. I fully expect a few guys like Kief, Clark, Casher, Marks, etc to transfer out. Heck, Jalen may. This will open up spots for our new grad-transfer kicker from Temple, QB from ECU and hopefully a grad-transfer DL or two.

Bingo. I think Kief, Clark and Casher graduate before fall. So, they could grad transfer out or simply move on with the next phase of their life (maybe grad asst. coach). Anyway, there will probably be enough attrition to allow for adding 3-4 grad transfers on scholarship.

Casher was recently named as Alabama's representative on the SEC Football Leadership Council for 2018, so I doubt he will be going anywhere. Pretty neat honor, Christian Miller was last year's rep.

Birmingham area should be a 2019 recruiting battleground (al.com)

Jackson-Olin's Lavonta Bentley (Parker transfer).
quote:

Birmingham becomes a key recruiting battleground for Alabama and Auburn in Class of 2019

Maybe it's nothing, but Alabama hasn't signed a single Birmingham area football player since 2016.

When the Crimson Tide opens the 2018 season, the roster will feature just one scholarship player from the Magic City - defensive lineman and Wenonah product Quinnen Williams

Auburn, meanwhile, has signed six prospects from the Magic City during the same span, including Hoover's Shedrick Jackson, Jackson-Olin's Coynis Miller and Mountain Brook's Harold Joiner in the Class of 2018.

Does that mean Auburn has a developed a recruiting edge of Alabama in the state's largest metro area? Probably not.

The Birmingham area appears to be a battleground in the Class of 2019, with eight of the state's top 11 2019 prospects, according to 247sports, playing at high schools in metro Birmingham.

Both are off to a strong start.

Alabama already has a commitment from 2019 Hewitt-Trussville offensive lineman Pierce Quick, now rated a 5-star prospect, and the Crimson Tide has also offered Thompson quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa, Thompson lineman Amari Kight, Clay-Chalkville defensive lineman DJ Dale and Hewitt-Trussville's quarterback Paul Tyson, all 2019 prospects.

Auburn also has a 2019 commitment from Pinson Valley quarterback Bo Nix, an Auburn legacy whose father also played for the Tigers in the 1990s, and Hoover receiver George Pickens.

Both schools have offered uncommitted Jackson-Olin linebacker, Lavonta Bentley. Birmingham also boasts Hoover running back Larry McCammon, Fultondale linebacker Ja'Len Sims and Thompson running back Shad Byrd, all of whom are major college prospects.

Alabama, of course, recruits so well nationally that going a couple of years without signing a Birmingham kid is no big deal. Gone are the days when Alabama or Auburn focused on in-state kids if the coaching staff believes a better player from California or Hawaii or New Jersey is better.

That's why Alabama's Class of 2018 featured players from Florida, Texas, South Carolina, Utah, Connecticut, California and Pennsylvania.

Auburn's 2018 class, meanwhile, is mostly kids from the Deep South, but the Tigers again recruited well in metro Atlanta and Florida and even signed a punter from Australia.

Alabama failed to land the nation's No. 1 recruiting class for the first time in seven years, and you have to believe that's a major reason for the staff turnover at Alabama. Anyone wanting to serve on Nick Saban's staff understands that when it comes to recruiting, it's be good or be gone.

That's what makes recruiting in metro Birmingham so intriguing for the next year.

We offered Dodge City Juco ILB Lakia Henry today. Listed as a C/O 2019 guy, but we may be looking into whether or not he can reclassify and enroll for this c/o 2018. More will probably come out on it in the next few days. Watch his highlights. He's legit. If he's just the 2nd team All-Conference MLB, I'd love to see the 1st team guy and get him too.

Alabama recruiting question of the day: Predicting 4 players to join Tide’s 2019 class

Center Clay Webb, one of Alabama's top targets.

Alabama finished seventh in the recruiting rankings in the 2018 class, but expect the Crimson Tide to be back on top come 2019. SEC Country’s Chris Kirschner will answer the Recruiting Question of the Day each weekday. You can ask him your questions on  Twitter or on Facebook. Find our previous questions and answers  here.

Name 3 or 4 recruits you think will be next to commit to Bama's 2019 class.

Clay Webb, 5-star center, Oxford (AL)

Clay Webb’s decision likely will come down to Alabama or Auburn. He didn’t grow up a fan of either school and doesn’t have ties to either program. Both of his parents are Jacksonville State alums.

An edge the Crimson Tide have over the Tigers, though, is his relationship with Alabama 5-star tackle commit Pierce Quick and his relationship with offensive line coach Brent Key. The Crimson Tide have prioritized Webb for a long time, and I don’t expect them to lose this battle.

Nakobe Dean, 5-star inside linebacker, Horn Lake (MS)

Nakobe Dean told SEC Country last month that Alabama and LSU were two schools that would definitely make his top-5 list. Dean has been to Tuscaloosa several times already and is a big priority for the Tide.

Jaylen McCollough has been to Alabama numerous times already and has developed a good relationship with the Tide staff. Alabama is one of McCollough’s top-3 schools.

Paul Tyson, 4-star quarterback, Hewitt-Trussville (AL)

Paul Tyson is Bear Bryant’s great-grandson. If Alabama wants him to be one of its quarterbacks in the 2019 class, I have a hard time imagining him turning down the Crimson Tide given his family’s history at the university.

Saw LSU offered '19 AL LB Kendall McCallum out of Oxford recently. Hope Bama pulls the trigger, partly because I hate them having any semblance of a pipeline in my hometown

I misinterpreted something someone posted on Henry. HE's purely a c/o 2019 prospect. Something had originally lead me to believe we were trying to get him to reclassify to 2018, but that's not right.
