Because UGA is still the flagship land grant university of the state and STEM fields are a big deal in terms of grant money. Plan for a while was for UGA to offer Engineering alternatives to Tech’s ultra competitive programs and a med school program (but the latter has been killed off by other public med programs defending their interest at the political level). Like most guys who want to major in a STEM field, he can have his shot at it, realize how hard it is, and either push to make it work or go a different direction. Right thing to do is to let the young adult make the decision, though, not tell him don’t even bother.

Yea I was about to answer that - in addition to that there just aren't very many engineering programs in the state compared to the demand/# of students.

There was a definite need for another engineering school.

Both of these post make sense. It's been 25+ years since I've lived in Georgia, and want aware of the demand. That, and I'm probably biased because my dad is a Ramblin' Wreck.

I don't know how those guys do it playing for major D1 program like Bama or UGA. I know I couldn't do it

Having the athletic department's tutoring support probably helps tremendously. They have resources your average student could only dream about.

Most overrated recruiting class of all time:

1. 2010 Florida

2. 2018 Georgia

Clemson didn’t have their normal blow out recruiting class. Neither did Ohio state.

Auburn has shite the bed outside Nix, Pappoe, and Pickens. Pickens is going JUCO

And there are a very, very small group of them that actually do major in something like engineering. Heck, there aren't many that major in accounting.

It's just really hard, and I don't blame them. It's impressive that kids like Dean want to try it at least.

I don't the players that played in that game remember the Sugar Bowl. Those hand grenades and hurricanes leave you with a nasty hangover.

I know many have voiced their displeasure about the early signing period...but the bright side is that we can now pour all of our resources into the remaining targets.

Sopsher and To'oto'o being the big ones

You'd think a guy with dreams of the NFL and millions of dollars would want to major in something like accounting or financial planning. It makes a lot of sense.

We have a bunch of kids these days in the non-business school financial planning degree (basically the degree you get if you can't pass Stats or the 200 level intro business classes) or management/health care in Bidgood.

Early signing is great. It gives you time to make a backup plan if you miss on a key guy. Though I think kids should be allowed to be released if the coach takes another job after early signing day.

I like the concept of an early signing day. I just hate how it's not really an early signing day. Move it to right before fall camps start and let kids opt out if there's a HC change.
