re: Class of 2018 Recruiting MEGATHREAD: So Long Old Friend Edition

We have rarely beat UGA head to head, they won most head to heads with Richt as coach for Georgia kids.

Either way UGA is killing it.

I agree, they have the hot hand and that state has produced some gems lately.

Honestly, it's either one of two things: A.) The coaching staff is getting badly out-recruited/out-worked on the recruiting trail, or B.) Kids aren't looking at our depth chart and in the age of social media, the kids are somehow unaware and aren't taking the seconds that it takes to google our roster/depth chart. Unfortunately, I suspect that it's the former.

And with only SIX returning scholarship DL, provided than Payne declares, and a lot of the blue chip DL committed/trending elsewhere, the staff better be damn certain of their evals, as we can't afford to have multiple DL (Langham, Barmore, Tremblay) that we are targeting this cycle bust. Kedrick James gets moved to DL and that Parks puts on some muscle to be a DE. And if we ultimately only sign 3 DL this class, the staff better damn well bring in at least 3-4 studs (not contributors, bluechip studs) in the 2019 class. If Payne goes to the draft, our NT depth chart will be Dwight and Mathis as it stands right now. Woof. This class is extremely critical for both the DL and DB positions, and a lack of quality and quantity at those positions could hurt us for a year or two.

Down-vote me all you want, but what I said is the truth and things don't look all that promising right now. Hopefully that changes.

I'll say again, get back to us all in early Feb and see if this line still holds.

You can't lose Mario, Kiffin, Kirby, etc the past couple of years and not have SOME impact. This current staff isn't as dynamic a group of recruiters (outside of Tosh, DA, Pruitt, and Saban) as past staffs have been. That said, we are doing better than most think is happening.

You know i have come to this conclusion myself as that's what seems to make them happy. It's amazing how these show up and just can't seem to grasp everything recruiting is. Last two years threads people were freaking out because we had all but 1 or 2 of our commits wrapped up well before signing day and it wasn't as exciting for them as the other teams were getting surprise commits, yet we were still #1. SO this year the negabammers have jumped out again and i just laugh. Why not wait until the dust settles and if in February we don't have a good class then i will start to worry not until then.

Damn our depth just took another hit considering he isn't signing until next year.
