Alabama commit Slade Bolden has been named the Gatorade Player of the Year in Louisiana.

The do-it-all product of West Monroe (La.) led the Rebels to a 13-1 record, falling one game short of the Class 5A state championship.

Bolden passed for 1,622 yards and 20 touchdowns, and added another 1,460 yards and 20 scores on the ground.

At 5-foot-11, 198 pounds, Bolden is rated the No. 11 all-purpose back and the No. 478 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

Bolden committed to Alabama in August over LSU and TCU. He plans to sign and enroll early.

Local TV piece on Slade winning GPOTY

I wanted to post this video for one reason. When the idiot claimed he got a Hell Cat on the recruiting board, which wasn’t true, several said he comes from nothing. You decide if his parents could afford a used Challenger. He’s being interviewed in front of his house.

But yeah...he comes from nothing...

I could have video of LSU’s top 5 uncommitted targets telling me they’re 100% going to LSU and they’d still hate me. Good times.

Local Newspaper piece

The statewide annual award is doled out to the football player that not only excels on the field but also off. Bolden, who’ll now be in the running for the National Gatorade Player of the Year to be announced later this month, has maintained a 4.0 GPA at West Monroe and has spent time volunteering around the community in beautification projects and with the Special Olympics, two things he values just as much as sports.

Heading off in early January to play at Alabama where he’ll likely line up at the slot receiver position, Bolden plans on maintaining his 4.0 GPA in school, sharpening up his route running and getting back in training shape before getting to Tuscaloosa. Once he’s there, he know his ability to get the offense going the way he would like for it to will be him taking advantage of opportunities with they come his way, a stark difference from playing quarterback at West Monroe.

“That’s my plan work as hard as I ever have and be able to get as many opportunities as I can. I can only control what I can myself and my work ethic and effort. My opportunities will come if I work hard, succeed and do the right stuff,” he said.

“Whoever is in front of me is going to have to work that much harder for me to not play because that’s my mindset and that’s what I’m going to do.”

“As bad as I want to succeed, that’s how bad I want the ball every time. I’d much rather the game fall in my hands or it’d be my fault other than give it to somebody else and have them take the fall. I’d much rather take the fall for a loss. As bad as I want the ball, at first nature I am a team player. I want my guys to score as many as they can and I want them to get the glory. I wouldn’t be able to do anything without my O-line. I want the ball because I want to help our team succeed in the best way possible.”

HATTIESBURG, Miss – Justyn Ross has a plan and it’s one to which he seems hell bent on sticking.

The five-star wide receiver will announce his decision on Signing Day in February. No earlier. The December signing period is meaningless to him. That’s not say he’s not already making preparations, though. Ross’ list has been trimmed and his focus has been narrowed. There are just three schools alive in race to land his commitment.

He lists them quickly when asked.

“It’s Alabama, Auburn and Clemson,” Ross said.

Asked to describe the pitches from each of his top tree, Ross only discusses the in-state programs. And what the Alabama-born receiver says makes the two program’s sales pitches seem similar.

“Auburn is telling me I can come in and be a playmaker from the start,” Ross said. “They don’t have that many good receivers. With Alabama, they don’t really have a big receiver next year. They want me to come in and be that guy for them.”

As for Clemson, Ross says they’re still in the thick of the hunt. And while distance from home is the only drawback when it comes to the Tigers, it’s certainly not insurmountable. The allure of home isn’t something on which ross will base his decision.

“That’s not important to me. It’s good to stay in state, but it’s not a problem for me to go out of state. I’m not worried about that. I’ll go where I fit.”

With a commitment date set in stone, all that’s left for Ross is official visits, the first of which he has already set.

“I have an Auburn visit in January,” he said on Monday. “That’s all I know now.”

A senor at Alabama’s Phenix City Central High School, Ross is ranked as the No. 2 wide receiver and No. 20 overall prospect in the 2018 class.

Unfortunately, I think Anoma will end up as a Jack LB. I'd love it if he or Parks put on muscle to be a DL, since we need DL way more than LB's.

The second numerical Rivals100 is out for the class of 2019 and with that comes the addition of numerous five-stars with the conclusion of their junior football season. Here is a look at the changes near the top, as well as the six new five-star prospects.

California quarterback JT Daniels remains the top-rated prospect in the country and could be hard to unseat in the 2019 class with his production and upside. However, North Carolina athlete and new five-star Quavaris Crouch jumped 13 spots to No. 2 and is a freaky specimen. New five-star Darnell Wright, from West Virginia, also made a jump up 12 spots to No. 5, while Virginia running back Devyn Ford jumped double digits, as well, to No. 10. Beyond that, there wasn’t much shuffling in the national Top 10.

The number of five-stars in the 2019 class increased by six and now stands at 14 overall, with the additions of Crouch, Wright, Ford, Louisiana cornerback Derek Stingley Jr., Florida running back Trey Sanders and Ohio defensive end Zach Harrison.

Our regional analysts take a look at each new five-star in depth ...

Jake Smith had a breakout junior season, put up huge numbers on the offensive side of the ball and now his recruitment has completely taken off.

The 2019 four-star athlete from Scottsdale (Ariz.) Notre Dame Prep standout has landed many major offers - his latest coming from Alabama - and soon Smith is hitting the road for some early trips.

“I’m going to the University of Texas this Thursday and Friday, then on Saturday I’m going to visit Alabama,” Smith said.

Both visits could be huge for Smith, who rushed for 1,135 yards and 11 touchdowns and also caught 33 passes for 1,055 yards and 15 scores this season.

The Longhorns have not offered Smith yet but he’s hopeful that by heading to Austin for a few days that Texas could be one of the next schools on his ever-growing list.

There has already been significant interest.

“I’m just excited to see what the atmosphere at both places are like,” Smith said. “Texas seems pretty interested so I think once I get out there an offer is definitely a possibility.”

So far, the 2019 four-star prospect has landed offers from Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Duke, Illinois, Indiana, Memphis, Nevada, Northwestern, Penn State, Syracuse, UCLA, Utah, Vanderbilt, Washington State and Wisconsin.

Javier Morton has always had Alabama on his mind. The 2020 defensive back out of Stone Mountain (Ga.) Stephenson recently committed to the Crimson Tide, but it was not a spur of the moment decision.

The 6-foot-1, 187 pound sophomore attended a couple of games in 2016, he was back for another one in 2017 and he has visited Tuscaloosa five times already.

He has a good feel for what it is like at Alabama and that is what led to his commitment.

"It is all about the attitude," said Morton. "Nick Saban, his team and just the attitude they have there is what I love. It is a winning attitude and it is all about business. That is what I want to be a part of on the next level."

Defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley was the coach Morton called to deliver the news to and the two have developed a strong relationship. When commitment came up, Morton felt Ansley had an idea it was coming.

"We talk a lot and when I got the offer from Alabama August 1, coach Ansley knew how excited I was about it. I think he may be have surprised a little when I called him to commit, but he knew how much I liked Alabama.

"Alabama is my dad's team, it has been my team and I do not think I shocked coach Ansley when I called to commit to him."

To have over a dozen offers and be considered as one of the top defensive backs in his class, Morton is living out a dream right now. He has worked hard to get to this point and when he thinks about himself lining up in the crimson, it is a special feeling.

"It was a dream come true when I got the Alabama offer and it is hard to believe that I am now committed to them," said Morton. "I have always wanted this and always dreamed about this, so it is very exciting.

"The Alabama fan base is big, they make you feel welcome there and I love the vibe there. It just makes you want to get out on the field and play. It is exciting to think I could be out there in a few years."

With the commitment coming early in the recruiting process, Morton is not ready to shut things down. He added an offer from Georgia recently, he likes Auburn, Clemson and he is still going to take other visits and build other relationships.

"I am still going to look at other schools. I am committed to Alabama, but I will keep my options open too.

New five-star Quavaris Crouch just finished an outstanding junior season with a state championship win. The Charlotte (N.C.) Harding University star was the workhorse for his team and a busy offseason is ahead of him.

IN HIS OWN WORDS…

"I'm going to get away from football little bit and rest," Crouch said. "I can just have some fun now. I don't show a lot of emotion during the season because I'm really focused."

"I haven't been talking to many coaches lately," he said. "Over this break I'll start getting into things with coaches and colleges. Most of the ones like Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, N.C. State, South Carolina, and Michigan stand out. I'm just going to take my time and see where I want to go.

"Florida State just lost their head coach to Texas A&M and a couple coaches are leaving to go to other schools so I'm just trying to see what happens," said Crouch. "I'm just taking my time and I want to be sure about my decision.

"I'll probably get to some schools soon but I don't have anything planned right now," he said. "I want to get out to all the Florida schools. There a lot of schools out there that I still want to see like Auburn. I've got to get to some places and talk to some guys.

"The coaches that come out to my games especially over the past few weeks have been really special," Crouch said. "I like that they've taken the time out of their scheduled to come see me. That's really special. That's going to hold some weight because they really care and have been supporting me.

"Trying to figure out which side of the ball I want to play on in college is a big thing for me right now," he said. "I could go either way right now. On defense you can have some longevity, not take so many hits, and make a lot of money. I like offense a lot too. I'm just going to let God guide me."

RIVALS' REACTION

Crouch, much like Dylan Moses and Bo Scarborough a few years ago, has the ability to play on offense or defense in college. He is a natural ball carrier but his long term future could be at linebacker. Crouch's recruitment will largely revolve around this question.
