Update on Najee for those who subscribe to 247 LINK

Basically, those within the Michigan athletic department are cautiously optimistic that they land him.

Hank still thinks Najee ends up at Alabama FWIW.

Ryan Bartow on Devonta Smith (comment was made on Miami247 board Dec. 10th)

Alabama Crystal Ball April 2. Sticking with it. Should be public soon enough.

According to the posters on the L6U Rant, he (Devonta Smith) was a man among boys in their HS playoffs. Smoooooooth.

Might be signing the smoothest pair of WRs I've seen one team sign in a long time between he and Jeudy.

Jeudy reminds me of Cooper.

Smith reminds me of Hanks.

Ruggs reminds me of Maze.

How good has Hank been in the past with these kind of predictions?

For me to say that Smith is a rich man's version of Hanks would be an understatement. Probably more like a King Solomon's version of Hanks.

Hanks was a nice player that helped us, but completely different class of recruit.

Also, Ruggs has several inches on Maze.

I understand the factors you're using in the comparisons, though.

I have seen Drew Dearmond say that our staff compares Ruggs to Ardarius, but think he has even more upside. They are REALLY REALLY high on Ruggs, as is becoming quite obvious.

Others can chime in, but IMO it seems like Hank is almost always a little behind. He had Browning to Alabama until almost the bitter end. Same thing with him predicting us to have Wade until the night before.

The problem in this situation is that Najee and his family are very quiet. It is hard to get very much info directly from them.

FWIW: A BOL poster said that Scout reported Najee's mom saying she would move to Michigan. This could have been a serious consideration or a passing comment. Who knows?

Whats the last day our commits can send in their financial aid signatures for early enrollment? That day can't get here fast enough

Classes begin Jan 11th at Alabama, January 4th at Michigan. I think you can enroll in both universities until one week after that date.

The US-Army game that Najee will play in is on January 7th. There's been some mention that he could announce a final decision then. If he does at all.

Could be totally wrong but I thought if Najee was gonna flip he was gonna do it before the dead period started. He didnt sign any financial aid with Michigan so they can't have any contact with him right?

They can still talk on the phone, facetime, Twitter, etc. Just no in-person contact.

I don't see those comparisons at all.

It'd be easier to compare Smith to Ridley and Ruggs to Stewart than any prior duo.

Maze could have played a few years in the NFL if he just cared more. No drive to improve...

Would be very disappointing if that happened. He has been committed to us for too long to bail now. Kind of a reverse Shaun Wade situation. My only concern is why did he decide to change the date of his announcement to Wednesday from the AAA game? Was it because Michigans classes begin on Jan 4 and the game is on 7th?
Still would be shocked to see him decommit.

Maze fricked his hamstring up in the title game against LSU on the punt return. Had experimental surgery after signing with Pittsburgh and we never heard from him again.

Yeah, watching him cry on the sidelines was painful. Dude bled crimson.

In 2016 is that a big deal? I'm not being mean about it but people use social media so much more now that is an in-home visit really going to mean more than 2-3 Facetime sessions? If the staff does their allotted visits and shows they care about you then there should be plenty of convincing going on without in homes these next few weeks

I believe all communication has to be initiated by the prospect though.
