I just hope they don't flip Sterling.

Montgomery (Ala.) Park Crossing's Malik Cunningham, a 2017 three-star athlete, tells BamaOnLine he is planning to be in Tuscaloosa this coming Friday -- the first day of the Tide's spring practices -- for an unofficial visit.
Cunningham, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect is quickly gaining momentum along the recruiting trail, recently earning offers from both Georgia Tech and LSU. Georgia, Louisville and Memphis have also entered the race for the in-state athlete's services.

JEFFERSON, La. – Stop three of the 2016 Rivals Camp Series Presented by Under Armourwas in the New Orleans area. Sunday’s event drew talent from a number of different states and attracted some high-profile prospects with reputations, as well as some lesser-known players looking to make names for themselves. Below are news and notes on some of the day’s most impressive individual performances.

I Was Impressed By...
quote:
Florida-based offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood justified his Rivals100 rating by dominating lineman one-on-one work. Leatherwood was a brand name of sorts heading into the camp and backed up his reputation by winning all but one rep during the competition. The camp’s offensive line MVP, Leatherwood could play guard or tackle at Alabama but might project best as a guard. He has a thick build with incredibly power. As he learns to polish his technique and clean up his footwork, Leatherwood could be an All-SEC type player. Leatherwood helped his already sky-high stock on Sunday.

Running back Cam Akers, who recently backed off his pledge to Alabama, also justified his lofty ranking on Sunday. Akers took home the event’s running back MVP award after shining in one-on-one work. Akers’ size and speed make him hard to cover in the flat, and the burst he showed devastated any linebacker that attempted to cover him down field. The Mississippi-based Akers is a complete back who is just as dangerous catching the ball as he is carrying it out of the backfield.

Four-star receiver DeVonta Smith holds offers from Alabama, Florida State, Georgia LSU and Ole Miss. On Sunday, he showed why he has such options. The day’s wide receiver MVP, Smith was consistently impressive from start to finish, shining in drills before making a number of spectacular plays in one-on-ones. Smith has long arms that make him seem bigger than his 6-foot-1 frame, he also crates separation with sharp cuts.

Other Notes...

Alabama-based quarterback Jacob Free took home the day’s quarterback MVP award. Free, who has impressive height, seemed to get better as the day progressed. His has a strong arm and seemed to develop more and more touch as he got into a groove. After an uneven start, Free was more consistent than any quarterback in attendance during the event’s second half. Louisville, Temple, Troy and others have extended scholarship offers to Free.
Free won the QB MVP, yet Lowell Narcisse was the only QB invited to the 5-star Challenge later this year.

The day’s linebacker MVP award went to Memphis (Tenn.) Whitehaven High's Aubrey Miller, who moves incredibly well and boasts a frame equipped with long arms. Miller was solid in coverage and showed an ability to move well laterally. Miller’s strength is his versatility, which will only improve as he adds more muscle. Defensive line MVP honors went to Morris Joseph Jr.
Again, Miller wins the position MVP, but Dylan Moses was the only LB invited to the main event. These Rival camps are a fricking joke.
Invite the kids who perform the best at the camps, not the ones you have higher ranked.

Hopefully Free gets invited to throw for coaches, I'm tired of chasing guys...there was little hope to me for landing Fromm when you look at both schools potential QB situation, but it is clear from his decommitment statements that Bama's recent success was down played big time...
"Oh they'll win another 2 NCs in the next 4 - 5 years and even if you're the QB, it's just another day in Tuscaloosa"
It sucks to lose a player of his caliber, and a guy most of us thought would be a leader in the class and recruiting efforts, but to lose him to that pitch makes me proud to be a Bama fan. It's good to be on top of the SEC and college football world IMO

I still believe Moses is highly overrated as a top 10 talent.

I think physically he is top 2 with Najee Harris. His height, weight, strength, speed, agility, and overall raw potential is unmatched by anyone. His on the field play leaves a bit to be desired for high school. He has better film as a RB than a LB. He is very similar to Mack Wilson in terms of potential vs wow play. Both will be legit at Alabama once they learn how to play more aggressively.

I think if it hadn't been for the fact all the services were gobsmacked over him 2-3 years ago, he'd be a top 50 prospect. Not a David Sills like tumble, but hardly top 10 either.
His instincts are good, but that's really it right now.
He's coming from 3A Louisiana to a star studded team that plays the best teams in the nation, it's very much sink or swim for him.
Not to say I wouldn't want him at Bama, but he was called a generational talent at one point. All I see right now is a SPARQ champion...

He's not Clowney. But I think he will live up to more than Nkemdiche.

Seems like the more success Bama has, the harder the recruiting trail gets. These kids get told 100 times that they aren't good enough, will ride the bench for 3 years, get processed, etc. That said, with the way Saban closed this year, coming from outside the top 10 to land the #1 class on NSD I have little doubt he will land an elite class every year that he's here.
It is frustrating losing guys like Fromm and Akers to these crap pitches from rivals though. Heck, Fromm is going to sit behind Eason for at least two years(probably 3)...how is that better than the situation at Bama? And Akers? Who uses their RB's better and puts more into the league than Alabama? He scared of being behind Bo and Harris for a year or two? Bama uses multiple backs and every starter we have had since Coffee in 2008 has declared after their junior year and gone in the 1st or 2nd round. Coffee, Ingram, Richardson, Lacy, Yeldon and now Henry. 6 in a row all top 2 round picks after junior year. Sick. RB's should be lined up begging for a roster spot in Tuscaloosa.

Fromm is going to Georgia because that's where he always wanted to play. This wasn't some negative recruiting deal, and it didn't really have anything to do with Alabama.

Wrong.... Fromm is going to UGA bc Kirby Smart is the head coach.
Posted on 3/7/16 at 4:07 pm to JBearden
Sort of. Smart offered him at UGA and they are definitely close. Fromm also grew up a fan of UGA, his parents went to UGA, he lives in a pro-UGA area, etc. It was always going to be tough to keep him from UGA if he had the opportunity.
My main point was that he didn't flip because other schools were out there attacking Alabama. There's not a whole lot to attack about Alabama.
