Moses says Alabama is on him the hardest

Last month at The Opening, the nation’s No. 1 outside linebacker told me he was ‘iffy’ about Alabama because the Crimson Tide have three other linebackers currently committed to the program. Not surprisingly, his stance has changed.

Dylan Moses, a 5-star prospect from IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.), told me shortly after his team’s win over Grayson High School on Saturday night that after a recent chat with Nick Saban, he feels much better about the Tide.

“I talked to coach Saban (after The Opening) and they are still expressing interest,” Moses said. “They told me that I don’t need to worry about anything else. I am the only one that they really are focusing on in getting in their class, so I’m not really iffy about them.”

That’s not necessarily accurate. Alabama would like to add 4-star linebacker prospects Christopher Allen and Jarez Parks to 4-star commitments VanDarius Cowan, Markail Benton and Gary Johnson.

The Tide would like Moses, too, and it’s one of the reasons the team is in constant communication with the Under Armour All-American. In fact, Moses said Alabama is recruiting him the hardest right now.

“They stay hitting me up,” Moses said. “They are always showing me highlights and plays and showing me different techniques with what I should do. It’s nothing but love. I notice it and watch the plays. I like it.

“They’re doing as much as they can right now. I respect it. I talk to the coaches as much as I can. I really want to see what they do this season. I want to see how strong their team is because they had a lot of guys leave for the draft. I want to see how strong their defense is and what they do this year.”

Moses said Ohio State and Texas are Nos. 2 and 3 in terms of programs recruiting him the hardest. Do I believe that LSU isn’t on that list? Not for one second, BUT it could also mean that the Tigers feel that confidently in landing him that they don’t feel the need to constantly blow up his phone.

It’s not really a secret that LSU is in prime position of landing Moses when he makes his commitment in December. If Les Miles is coaching the Tigers in 2017, Moses will be on LSU’s roster. There’s no coach in America that Moses is closer to than Miles.

But, with Moses’ desire to remain coy, he says his recruitment is far from over despite people believing he will sign with the Tigers.

“I think because I’m now in Florida and I’m from Baton Rouge, La.,” Moses said as to why he believes people think LSU is the favorite. “LSU is the first team that offered me a scholarship, and I was committed to them once. I think it’s just because of the obvious facts, but that’s not the case right now because I’m still going through the process.”

There also are plenty of examples for why you wouldn’t be crazy to think LSU is the school he’s going to choose no matter what he says, such as this, this and this.

I do not think any school other than LSU is a serious player for Moses unless Miles is not coaching the Tigers in 2017.

Alabama facing challenge with Ohio State commit?

I mentioned in Friday’s notebook that 4-star safety Isaiah Pryor, who is committed to Ohio State, said Alabama is recruiting him as hard as it possibly can, but it seems as if it’s going to be all for naught.

Pryor told me after the IMG Academy game that he is likely only going to take an official visit to Ohio State for the Michigan game. Alabama has come on strong over the past month to get him to visit and possibly change his mind, but Pryor is 100 percent with the Buckeyes.

“I think (Alabama has) done a very good job, but I’m just set on Ohio State,” Pryor said. “It was one of my first offers. I go up there a lot and have family up there. I have a great relationship with the coaches and I just love it up there.”

The nation’s No. 4 safety did compliment Alabama on how hard the Tide are pursuing him, but he said there’s nothing the team can do at this point to change his mind.

“They’re very good programs, but I just like Ohio State more than Alabama,” Pryor said.

According to a source close to Ohio State, the Buckeyes are not nervous about Pryor’s commitment to them. For now, Pryor is just going to be a name to track for Alabama, but he should not be considered a serious safety target. If he visits, then it’s a different story.

Alabama has a commitment from 3-star defensive back Kyriq McDonald, who can play safety, but the Tide would like to add at least one more at the position. Todd Harris, a 4-star prospect from Plaquemine High School, is the recruit fans should keep an eye on. He’s my pick for likeliest safety to join the Class of 2017.

Good. We need a pass rusher in this class, especially if Christian Miller decides to transfer.

Haven't kept up with this cycle much yet but what defensive tackles do yall think we may land? Need some depth after this season.

I'm pretty sure Cowan was flagged twice in the first video for horse collar tackles.

He looked better in the 2nd video, kinda let the OL in on him too much in the 1st.

I heard some analysts say during the summer UA would probably go after some JUCO DL late in the process after they had time to watch them and determine which of our younger guys are developing this fall. I would not be surprised to see us get 1 or 2 DL from the Juco ranks.

I feel like we need at least three, depending on how the freshman develop and if Davis qualifies. As well as how likely King is to ever contribute. All told, we need immediate impact guys for 2017.

He definitely appears to have the measurables (size and speed). Not an expert and he has forever to develop but after watching the vidoes I like him more as an OLB than an ILB.

Unless he becomes a monster in Juco AND it corresponds with him dropping a LOT of weight, it's not going to happen. Pruitt wasn't crazy about him.

I know Pruitt and Saban will rebuild the DL depth, but it is pretty concerning after taking a long look at it and seeing who we lose after this year.

Too many misses and qualifying issues the last two years. And not much luck so far in this class.

I get that Pruitt may not have been very high on Jones as a recruit, but he hasn't even given Jones a chance.
