So,why did they stop, recruiting Juco,s in football? Bad experience? Recruiting advantage with High Schoolers? Or just because they can?

Probably the latter 2.

They rather take their lumps and develop their players instead of looking for a quick fix when their evaluations are wrong.

And that's why Clemson is Clemson. High on talent, low on championships.

Four-star running back B.J. Emmons is back on the market after his recent decommitment from Georgia, and Alabama is among his favorites.

Emmons took a visit to Alabama last month with his coach, Brandon Allen. He plans to make another trip to Tuscaloosa in July with his mother. Alabama recently offered the 5-foot-10, 230-pound Emmons, who is rated as the No. 4 overall running back and No. 108 recruit in the country.

Assistants Tosh Lupoi and Burton Burns are Emmons' primary recruiters.

"It's a phenomenal place, for sure," Allen said of Alabama.

"I think what they like about B.J. is his physicality as far as a runner. As fast as B.J. is, and I think he got clocked at a 4.43 or 4.48 at the All-American combine, and he's weighing in right now at 225-230 pounds, they like what he brings to the table. Alabama prides itself on being able to run between the tackles and he brings that element."

"He has great hands. He's a young man that could be used in the slot position or split end position if he needs to be. He runs great routes. He's a tremendous athlete, for sure."

Allen said he felt that Emmons was "extremely high" on Alabama and if the Crimson Tide aren't his No. 1 school right now, they're near the top.

"I don't know too many young men that wouldn't be high on Alabama, but I think the time we had there really gave him an eye-opening experience from everything that Alabama has to offer," Allen said. "It's not just about football. The football program speaks for itself. The accomplishments people don't talk about, as far as student-athletes graduating, doing things inside the classroom and holding them accountable. Those things spoke volumes to me as far as what their expectations are for student-athletes."

Tennessee appears to be Alabama's main competition this summer, though Allen mentioned Florida and Florida State as two other schools that are standing out. Emmons has been to Tennessee recently.

"As the season progresses, as long as he stays healthy and all goes well, I think his list is going to get longer and longer," Allen said.

Don't expect a quick commitment again from Emmons. He spent most of June handling recruiting, since team activities for Freedom High School really pick up in July.

"I think he felt like that he committed too early and didn't explore all his options," Allen said. "I think he's going to take time to do those things and see what's offered at each institution. Each one has its own identity. I think he's going to take the time to do what's best for B.J. and for his family."

Alabama could sign multiple players at the running back position in this cycle and Emmons appears to be in the top group of targets.

After attending several events during the spring and summer, here are some thoughts from the in-person evaluations across the Mid-South.

Best of the road

SDE Jeffery Simmons, Macon (Miss.) Noxubee County

It is Jeffery Simmons and it really is not that close. At the end of May, the 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive end took the SPE 15 Elite 100 camp presented by GotMix.net in Houston by storm. He traveled from Mississippi and stayed with a relative in Houston to show off his talents, and it was obvious from the moment he arrived he was one of the top prospects in attendance.
It took about five seconds for him to pass the eyeball test, and it was clear he was one of the more athletic prospects after the testing phase. Simmons' weight is well distributed on his big frame and he already has the look of a college football defensive lineman. During testing, he was the fastest of the linemen as he showed both straight line speed and the ability to change direction.

During one-on-one drills, he overwhelmed opponent after opponent. Granted, the competition was not up to his level, but it was easy to see he possessed the ability to dominate in the trenches with his first step and powerful hands.

Simmons left no doubt he was the best prospect at the camp.

Two days of the USC Rising Stars Camp and four days of the UCLA camps are finished and there were plenty of standouts during the busy week around Los Angeles. The Roadies recognize some of the best of the best.

Super Standout

CB Nigel Knott | Madison (Miss.) Germantown

Knott was the best cover corner among a solid group at USC's Rising Stars Camp. He was surprisingly physical near the line of scrimmage, bumping receivers off their routes within the first five yards, and he also kept up with them down field and showed good ball skills to knock away passes. Time after time, quarterbacks found it difficult when they tested Knott as receivers rarely gained separation.

Physical Specimen

RB Najee Harris (2017) | Antioch (Calif.) Senior

The Alabama commit showed up to USC's camp carrying a Crimson Tide backpack but given how he performed, it was easy to see why so many programs won't let him head off to SEC country that easily. Harris was remarkable as a receiver out of the backfield during individual drills, but he truly shined in 11-on-11 where he could burst through a hole, make a cut at the second level and then explode into open space.

Bodyguard

OG Netori Johnson (2017) | Ellenwood (Ga.) Cedar Grove

Johnson, an early Alabama commit, is absolutely massive at 6-foot-4 and 325 pounds and he's also physical and tough at the line of scrimmage. For someone his size, what stood out most about Johnson was his ability to move his feet and block down the field as well. Johnson is definitely an interior lineman but he moves really well and already has the size of a college OL.

He reminds me of Chubb. Mcclendon from Uga can flat out evaluate some RB talent.

#Alabama DL coach @coach_bdavis played a major part in recruiting @QuinnenD1. The Tide's DL class is very impressive with more to come.
