The battle between the Alabama linebackers continues as Lyndell Wilson and Ben Davis, both five-stars separated by only one spot nationally (Davis is No. 13, Wilson is No. 14), will be competing against each other but also rooming together. Could both end up playing together in college as well? Neither seems close to a decision, but many feel they could end up at Alabama together.

And both will have a little something to prove as well as they were leapfrogged by two other linebackers in the latest rankings with new five-star Mique Juarez now at the top of the food chain at No. 8 followed by Five-Star Challenge participant Daelin Hayes at No. 11. This, obviously, is a loaded year at linebacker.

West Orange (Winter Garden, Fla.) dual-threat quarterback Woody Barrett will play his college ball at an SEC Western division school in the state of Alabama.

He's just not ready to say which one. That's what Wednesday is for.

"It's between Alabama and Auburn," Barrett said. "It's down to those two schools and I'll make my commitment Wednesday."

Barrett, 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds, will announce his decision at 12:30 p.m. CT.

"Alabama and Auburn both are high-class programs," Barrett said. "Both can get you into the League and both compete for championships."

Barrett narrowed his choices to the two in-state rivals after also considering offers from Clemson, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin, among others.

Barrett visited both Alabama and Auburn during the spring. He attended the Tigers' Junior Day in March, and also visited one of the Tide's spring practices.

With the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge Presented by Under Armour and Rivals Quarterback Challenge Finals just around the corner, we challenged Rivals.com National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell to come up with five random thoughts from his Mind of Mike regarding the players attending the event. We'll call them The Farrell Five.

quote:

2. Who's the sleeper to watch at the event?

While my man Adam Gorney says to watch out for Michigan cornerback Lavert Hill on our Five Who Could Surprise list, I say watch out for defensive end Xavier Kelly.

Why? Yes, Kelly is raw, very raw and we saw that at RCS: St. Louis, but he got stronger and better as the one-on-ones developed and by the showcase, he started to mix up inside and outside and give some very, very good linemen trouble. I'm not saying he will jump from his new Rivals250 status (released today) to a five-star, but I have a feeling he will start stronger than he did in St. Louis and by the end of our rankings cycle, we could be talking about a guy who ends up in the Rivals100.

This was the original 3000th post, but I wanted to make a gif post there.

Having a player like 5-star Najee Harris, the No. 1 running back in the 2017 class, lead Alabama's 2017 recruiting is never a bad thing.

Monday's two new additions will make Crimson Tide fans smile, as well as head coach Nick Saban and the rest of his coaching staff.

Alabama landed a top-10 nationally ranked wide receiver in Morton, Mississippi, standout D.D. Bowie, a 4-star target and the No. 1 player from the state of Mississippi, early Monday evening. Minutes later, the Crimson Tide scored their second commitment of the day in 4-star Ellenwood, Georgia, offensive lineman Netori Johnson, the nation's No. 5 offensive guard.

Both athletes committed while in Tuscaloosa at the Alabama camp. Bowie chose the Crimson Tide over offers from Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Auburn and Southern Miss. Johnson picked the Crimson Tide over offers from Auburn, Kentucky, North Carolina State, Illinois, Wake Forest and South Florida.

With three solid pledges to the class, Alabama has a nice jump on many of the other schools in the race for the 2017 team recruiting rankings, which currently has the program No. 4 overall. Alabama is chasing Ohio State, Miami and Florida State and jumped LSU, TCU, Arizona State and Auburn with Monday's additions.

It's a race Alabama is trying to dominate as it continues to make up ground with its 2016 class; the Crimson Tide, after a slow start, are ranked No. 12 in the 2016 rankings.

Bowie's a good-sized receiver at 6'1" and 170 pounds, and his versatility will come in handy at the next level. At Morton High School, Bowie's lined up all over the field. As good of a receiver as he is, he also can benefit a program as a cornerback, safety and special teams player.

Bowie, who ran a 4.4-second 40-yard dash at the camp, told Scout.com's John Garcia Jr. that his decision was more spur of the moment than anything, but it's a decision he's excited about.

"Nick Saban asked me if I really wanted to commit, and I said, 'yes sir,'" Bowie told Garcia. "They gave me the full offer [Monday]. [Defensive line] Coach [Bo] Davis told me I had the offer. I got it with my routes and with my 40."

While Bowie will bring the speed and explosiveness from a skill-position perspective, Johnson will bring power and intensity in the trenches as an offensive lineman. Johnson is a massive lineman at 6'5" and 330 pounds, and he's expected to be a solid contributor at the guard position.

Johnson told 247Sports' Shane Youngblood that his decision was "a no-brainer" because of Alabama's success in producing linemen to the next level. Johnson told Youngblood:

"As soon as Nick Saban told me I had an offer, I asked him if I could commit, and that's what I did. I came down here with my coaches, not knowing this was going to happen. ... I love the environment and the coaches. They have a very good coaching staff that stayed on me and didn't let me get tired or let me down."

Add these two pledges with Harris, a "competitive but humble" dynamo in the backfield, and it's easy to see why the Alabama faithful is feeling strongly about the direction of the program. Harris rushed for nearly 2,300 yards and 24 touchdowns as a sophomore and has drawn early comparisons to jumbo back Derrick Henry.

There's still plenty of time for Alabama to add to its class, but with a 5-star pledge in Harris and the two new 4-star gets, Saban is in a good position to have a class similar to the ones of the recent past. Among the many uncommitted players to keep an eye on are 5-star linebacker Markail Benton, 5-star wide receiver Jeff Thomas, 4-star linebacker Nate McBride and 4-star offensive tackle Austin Troxell.

As good as things are for Alabama now, it could get even better by the summer if it's able to land some of these recruits. That's the plan for Saban and his staff.

Next year's class could be elite.

I don't think that's the case this time. Bone says we have other prospects higher on the board.

Not sure how early grades can have an effect a year out, but there has been talk with Yulee.

I think there's too much of a log jam at ILB recruiting wise, only so many 240 thumpers can be taken.

Well get ready because we already have 3 5-star commitments (Carter, Jones and Williams) on at least one site and we lead for Davis, Wilson, Salomon, Pass and Gary. Throw in Greg Little and possibly Willie Allen and that's 10 off the top of my head.

Carter is not a 5-Star on any of the 4 sites, so we have two 5-stars right now. I didn't mean to cause a stir, just a little confused on why we are stock-piling 3-stars. We aren't freakin' Rutgers. And everyone saying "oh screw the recruiting sites, ill take a 3-star anyday, we can coach them up." Once again, we aren't freakin' Rutgers.

In 2008 we had the lead and the ball in the 4th Q of the SEC Championship Game against Florida, we pull that out we play for the National Championship.

In 2009 we won the National Championship.

In 2010 we lost 3 games, kind of a down year I suppose.

In 2011 we won the National Championship.

In 2012 we won the National Championship.

In 2013 if Auburn doesn't run back the FG, we probably play for the National Championship.

In 2014, we made the first ever CFB Playoff, and almost took down Ohio State to play for the National Championship.

In the last 7 seasons I just listed, I believe only 1 of those (2010) we weren't a National Title Contender. The other 6 seasons were AMAZING. Whats the common theme on that great 7-season run? We stock-piled 4 and 5-Star recruits like they were going out of style. I say we keep on doing that, and fill in with 3-Stars if we need to at the end of each recruiting cycle. This is Alabama, not Rutgers.

I dunno, I think it'd be best to let the guy that, you know, gets paid millions of dollars, to make the important decisions on who gets a chance to play at Alabama.

Glad you take the evaluations from the likes of Brodie Croyle's WR at Rainbow City, a former Florida minor league hockey beat reporter, a former insurance agent, and a litany of former local sportswriters, all of which whom have no major collegiate coaching experience, more serious than the people who do have said experience.

7.5 M is about right. I think Hulk is a young buck who thinks his opinion really matters in the grand scheme of things.

I'd rather see Alabama sign more of their top camp performers than kids ranked high solely based on camp performances for the recruiting services. We used to have a lot of those guys on the roster. The 2011 squad was full of them.

Did I pass out and miss 6 months or is it only June 2? We have 9 commitments; 16 more to come. Impossible to know how this class will look come NSD.

And for what it's worth, the only CNS team to go undefeated at Bama ('09) had a great mix of 5* studs from the '08 and '09 classes and hungry, hard-working 3*'s from previous classes. Yes, you have to have talent. At the same time, talent is everything.

You're right about one thing. Rutgers is ranked #52. We're definitely not Rutgers.

Brodie Croyle's WR at Rainbow City, a former Florida minor league hockey beat reporter, a former insurance agent, and a litany of former local sportswriters all had Bama winning the recruiting National Championship like 6 out of the last 7 seasons, and Bama has 3 National Championship to show for it. If you ask me, the WR, minor league hockey, guy, etc. all have a pretty good idea of what they are doing.

I love Saban, he's the best coach in America. I'm just simply saying he's having a down year on the recruiting front. Step away from the ledge people.

we have already had 1 3 star reclassified to a 4 star based on performance (brown). davis will likely do the same, or we could lose him to one of the mississippi schools. weve had 1 4 star move to a 5 star already, are in the running for up to 10 5 stars. we are sitting at 12 with 9 commits. Every team ahead of us has more commits. I will be completely shocked if we dont end up in the top 2 or 3 like we do every year.

You guys know we don't blow up in recruiting until I talk about how shitty we're doing. It's a tradition.
