I am fine with that. I think it was take whoever wanted the spot and was ready to commit first. I Prince seemed to want it with Richmond canceling his OV and CVO not a great feel for. One more OL, especially at OT seemed like a priority in class.

Mekhi Brown is back in the Rivals 250 coming in at #210:

quote:

"We have been waiting for Brown's performance to meet his potential and we finally saw the beginnings of that at the Army Bowl. He held his own against dominant offensive tackle Martez Ivey in East practices, then flashed quickness off the edge in the game." -- Helmholdt

Anfernee Jennings also cracked the Rivals 250 coming in at #211:

quote:

"After committing to Alabama early, Jennings has spent most of the 2015 cycle off the radar, opting out of pretty much every major event. That changed during All-Star season, as he turned in excellent performances at both the Alabama-Mississippi game and the Semper-Fi game. Jennings is a speed rusher who is tough to slow down when he's coming off the edge. While he's still relatively lean, he has the frame to easily bulk up and become a force at Alabama." -- Wommack

Lawrence Cager comes in at #240 on Rivals:

quote:

"Cager is a big-bodied receiver who has enough explosiveness to stay on the outside in college. He showed off the advantage of his size on a 54-yard touchdown catch in the Army Bowl where he had to fight off a defender in order to secure the catch." -- Helmholdt

Rico McGraw just now made it into the Rivals 250 at number 242:

quote:

"Listed as a safety, McGraw played cornerback the entire week at the Army Bowl and was the East's second best coverage man behind only five-star Tarvarus McFadden. McGraw has the size that could project well to the free safety role, but he also has fluid hips and the speed to play on the boundaries." -- Helmholdt

I can't believe he was rated that low on their site.

Who needs proof reading? But that just goes to show you the mentality everyone has with Alabama. Despite winning a SEC title, which is seemingly already forgotten, the lack of a national title has Alabama "trending down". Whatever floats their boat.

Shawn Burgess-Becker dropped from #88 to #187 on Rivals:

quote:

"Burgess-Becker was lost in coverage quite a bit at Under Armour. He's a great looking kid and physically could grow into a linebacker if he wanted to, but he's still raw in reading coverage as a safety and instinctually knowing where he needs to be." -- Farrell

DeSherrius Flowers dropped from #97 to #192 on Rivals:

quote:

"Flowers did not show any dynamic qualities to his game during his week at the Army Bowl. A big back at 212 pounds, his carries in practice and in the game were essentially pounding the football into the middle of the line and seeing what he could get." -- Helmholdt

Our problem want with safeties this year. It was the CBs.
problem is probably going to be with safeties next year, with very little experience returing. i think washington and smith are out most experienced safeties next season. they could maybe move eddie jackson to safety (hes a good tackler, had 41 tackles in 11 games from the corner spot), but we are going to need a meaningful contribution from some talented young safeties next year or that spot is going to get abused like the corners were this year

Prince Tega injury/surgery/return timeline update:

quote:

Wanogho Jr. suffered a tibia/fibia fracture in his left leg after an opposing player rolled into his leg on Tuesday night. It was a "clean break," according to Edgewood Academy coach Bobby Carr, and doctors told the 6-foot-8 athlete he should be good to go by May.

Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze visited Wanogho Jr. at the hospital on Wednesday. Alabama head coach Nick Saban and defensive coordinator Kirby Smart are expected to meet with him on Thursday. Alabama has yet to offer him a scholarship, but has shown serious interest and wanted to bring him in for an official visit.

Every school that has offered Wanogho Jr. -- there are many -- has reached out in some way to say the scholarship offer still stands, according to Carr. Auburn, Texas, Florida and Georgia, among others, have all offered the four-star prospect.

He took an official visit to LSU last weekend and he will weigh whether he'll take additional official visits in the coming weeks after his recent surgery.

Doesn't appear to be near as bad as Prothro's injury thankfully.

There's a lot of moving parts right now, which makes it difficult to predict how the class finishes. A couple of thoughts and notes...
--The expectation for several weeks has been that one of the DB commits would likely end up elsewhere. Since the commitment of Kendall Sheffield earlier this month, the thought has been that Montrell Custis of Hampton-Lovejoy, GA was the one most likely to flip. That Custis is visiting other schools and might end up elsewhere is nothing new.

--There's also been some talk about the status of Rico McGraw. It appears the UA staff is very high on McGraw and is intent on keeping him in the class. We've posted here for several weeks that McGraw was one to keep an eye on with Georgia continuing to make a push.

--Based on the sources I've spoken with, it does not sound as if OT Isaiah Prince has been completely ruled out as an option. Depending on how things shake out, there's a chance that he could still be an option in this class. So we think he's still in play for UA.

--Nothing new on our end on OT Chidi Valentine Okeke. There still seems to be some question regarding his academic status and whether he would be eligible to enter school next summer. But word is the staff remains high Ludowici-Faith Baptist Academy, GA standout.

--OM sources continue to believe the Rebels are in strong position to hold on to OT Drew Richmond of Memphis.

--As of today, it appears that Alabama will add WR Daylon Charlot and is good position with WR K.J. Hill (who measured 6-1, 192 pounds on his UA visit) of North Little Rock, AR. Charlot, of Patterson, LA, was, of course, once committed to Alabama. The feeling is that he's likely to end up signing with UA on NSD. Hill de-committed from Arkansas following his Alabama visit last weekend. Hill's step-father tells TI that Hill favors Alabama. He's slated to visit Ohio State this coming weekend. No decision has been made on whether or not he'll make his official visit to Arkansas on the final weekend. His step-father tells TI that they will make a final determination on that visit after they return from Ohio State.

--WR Ryan Davis seems to be the latest rave among fans. Word is that Tide OC Lane Kiffing is very high on the 5-11, 173-pound Davis of St Petersburg-Lakewood, FL. Davis confirmed to TI yesterday that he has set an official visit to Alabama for this weekend. In spite of the numbers crunch, it's not out of realm of possibility that Davis might somehow be worked into the class.

Again, there's a lot of moving parts at work here and it's tough to predict how they will work out.

I don't think it is that big of a loss. We already have two 5* CBs. Would you rather trade Kendall Sheffield for Rico?

I know I wouldn't.

I just hope Custis joins him. We need the space and we are deep as hell at CB.

Yeah, I'd prefer we get another lineman instead.
