I think Pate said it best...

Bama has won 11 games, with a tough schedule, and a lack of a decent run game. They are who they are, but they have won with that deficiency.

Yeah I think you are right. The run game is just abysmal at Bama this year. The O-line and its patchwork pieces have not been able to open up lanes or even holes. And when they did the RBs just do not seem to have that touch to make it work. Jam is a disappointment but I know he's been injured.

Hill seems to have potential and may be really good if the O-line can fix itself. But honestly, Bama does not need a dominant run game (weird to say!) If Bama can get 75 to 80 yards on the ground I think that is just enough to be able to put the game away.

Of course, the WRs case of constantly dropping balls is another issue in itself.

It’s not wise to say, let’s completely abandon the run game, or let’s pass to open up the run, or we should run or pass only in certain situations. Because it’s honestly all about what the other team is trying to do and then adjusting from there.

It’s the running into a stacked box, and long developing pass plays when the defense is blitzing every play that drives me crazy.

I’d like to see more play action. We run enough for that to work, and running doesn’t work, so why not.

Watch the 4th qtr when #71 is playing left guard. This cat is pathetic at best. The substitution pattern has been strange this entire year. Perhaps it is all about keeping fresh players all the time, then that would make some sense.

Truth is most of the success we have is when the opposing DC makes a bad call against us. The TD to #17 showed a perfect pocket and every DL had a hat on them. Mistake by Brent in not rushing more guys like he did 90% of the time.

not criticizing your thought. just curious if play-action is valid when the defense knows you cant run to begin with?

I think so because we do have enough run attempts even if they’re not productive.

It may freeze the LBs for a split second. Downside is can we protect Ty long enough…

You really have to run just well enough that the edge rushers can’t ignore their gap responsibilities. That’s why our backs averaging 4 ypc is my baseline for what I’d like to see. That’s effective enough that you have to respect the possibility they can run it 3 times and get a first down.

You don’t have to tell me! I was complaining about it in another thread. There was one play where Hill got the ball and everything opened up wonderfully.
71 had a 1:1 block with an LB and it would have gone for 10+, but he wiffed and Hill was tackled for a short gain.

Not sure if it was 71, but even on Hill’s touchdown run, someone came through and hit him at the line. Thankfully, he kept moving.

Coaching vs players is a circular argument. Players have to make plays, but coaches are responsible for getting the right players in the right position

Handing the ball to Jam Miller for 1 yard up the middle accomplishes nothing and wen you call the play, you know that's what's going to happen. Just stop doing it.

The drive after OU cut it the three and we go and get that deep pass complete to Horton and then ran Jam on back to back plays for a total of -1 yards and then Ty was sacked on 3rd & 11 made me want to throw something at the TV. Same as Kane deciding to go back to only sending four on that previous drive and giving up a TD. Our coordinators both seem to have a habit of killing our momentum randomly with just a head scratching call and I think that's one of the reasons we have such trouble putting teams away this season.

Carroll and Sanders need to play more. I saw Carroll at RT a good bit last game, but Sanders hasnt had as much time as earlier in the year. Lots of GVDM and 71.

Ive never seen anything like this rotation. 77 was in some at RG last game. We run these guys like a basketball team; 5 starters but we play 8-9 guys every game.

The hope was that the best 5 would have become apparent by now. Maybe, as you said, the rotation is to keep them fresher. Maybe the freshmen arent physically ready yet. Another year or two in the weight room will go a long way for Carroll and Sanders. Whatever the case, we gotta get these guys to play their best games going forward. It's obvious by now that we have two very good OL and a bunch of question marks.

I think you probably dont' realize that in UGA game, they took away the game, and brought extra player down to LOS, and dare us to throw the ball. They couldn't get anything done...

Exactly.

Most of these guys haven't realized we have been running into loaded fronts with more defenders than we have blockers. You can't consistently win on runs against that.

Which is why we needed to throw and specifically vertically to get those extra men to back up outside the box.

When we did? That was how space opened for us to run.

Has one figured out why Roberts isn’t playing? He might not be a perfect fit for the scheme but he was better than what we’ve been sending out there this season.
