It was like watching a mausoleum event on TV. Avery needs to throw down on the crowds prior to the games like Saban did on his call in show before Miss St in 08 or 09.

It's a Wed night game at 8 PM. I'm generally pretty irritated by crowds, but last night was 75% full. Our team just gave them absolutely zero to be loud about.
The 3 or 4 times the team showed a bit of life the crowd got loud.

An 8:00 tip-off on Wednesday is the basketball equivalent of a noon kickoff on a Saturday.

No energy in the building at ALL last night! Hard for a young team to bring the energy after a big game like they had Saturday with OU. Fans have to help. There may have been 12,000+ in the building but they were silent.
Yea, we would have kicked their arse if some of the fans would have painted their faces. Coaching wasn't an issue at all, it's on the fans that didn't paint their faces.

Blaming Sexton for this game is comical. He scored 23 points on 7/16 shooting. He and Ingram were literally the only scoring threats we had last night. Outside of those 2 we shot 26% from the floor. Jones, Petty and Key combined for 1/11 from the floor. Without Sexton we lose by 20 in that game.

The crowd is no excuse for how we played, but at no point last night were they "loud". That was a dead crowd from tip to final whistle.

He needs to spend his time coaching his team...it's the product not the arena
Posted on 2/1/18 at 2:09 pm to JoseyWalesTheOutlaw
Not blaming it on the arena, but let's be honest...Coleman isn't exactly conducive to a home court advantage.
I think we need a new arena just to freshen up the optics of Alabama Basketball while also finding a way to get student seating right on top of the floor like we see at other venues. In the meantime, make the whole arena General Admission for 1-2 SEC midweek games a year when we know it might be tough sledding to get a crowd. Just thinking out loud because I really don't know what the answer is. When we hired Avery, I was optimistic but I knew that in order for things to get to the next level, he would have a season that really generated some momentum.
I know our basketball fans aren't the best but I truly believe we do care about basketball. The problem is I think so many people are tired of living through the same season every...single...year...no matter the coach. Its like Charlie Brown and the football. Every season plays out like this: We stumble in December and lose games we have no business losing putting us behind the 8-Ball for a tournament bid. We get some momentum in January by beating some semi-average teams and start talking about how if a few things go our way, we're in the tournament. There's a loss at Vanderbilt and a loss at Ole Miss somewhere along the way. Come February, we start losing some games we shouldn't lose along with a few that we should. Despite the losses, some expert like Lunardi still has us as "First Four Out" so we cling to hope by talking about our RPI and how many games we need to win in the SECT. However, that hope is quickly extinguished when we lose to Kentucky in our second game of the SECT en route to another NIT bid. This is Alabama Basketball.

Yea - I will defend Alabama basketball fans to the bitter end. All it takes is one little spark of possible excitement and that place is filled to the max. The facts from the Gottfried, Grant and Johnson eras back this up.
Fans have done their part. It's time for the program to give them something to be proud of it. That hasn't happened, consistently, in a long time.

As awesome as the OU win was, I would gladly trade it for wins over Ole Miss and Missouri.

Yeah any blame on Sexton is beyond comical...It's pathetic and borderline mentally ill. The kid brings it every night. Our fans will support results but also have a bad habit of being negative as shite after a loss. I still think we figure this thing out and get to 18 or 19 wins. Our SOS and the sec being strong gives us some ground to stand on but we need a 3-4 game winning streak to happen to get some momentum .

Not surprised. I am a huge pessimist and you are the opposite and really an extreme sunshine pumper. I will be surprised if we win 18 or 19 games and sneak in because of a tough schedule. The thing is that we had enough talent this year to easily get in as 8 seed or better but we are poorly coached and our guys just never adjust when there is trouble. Keep the faith though.

I keep telling myself it doesn't matter because we are a football school but it isn't working. I at least thought we would make the tourney.
At least when softball and gymnastics were rolling over people as well, I really didn't care.
Oh well, I wouldn't trade 2nd and 26 for a Final Four.

A Final Four does a hell of a lot more for this basketball program than that championship does for our football program. Would 100% trade it and would not have even given it a second thought.

buckle up means wide open running and pushing the pace in the offense. The announcers said in the OK game the goal was to try and score in the first 5 seconds or so and if that was not open then run clock and try and score later. I would not be surprised if this is the game plan vs. a lot of the better teams on our schedule

Accurate on both accounts.

I'll be the first to admit that my preseason expectations were insane. It's not ever going to be easy to get in as an 8-seed when you have the third youngest team in the country unless you're pulling in 5-6 5-stars like UK. Even UK, who has a team stacked with 2018 1st round draft picks and the most experienced coach in dealing with the young guys, has struggled with inconsistency this year. It's the mark of a young team. Regardless, Lunardi projects us as a 9-seed AFTER the Mizzou loss, so an 8-seed, while still tough, isn't out of the question.

Let's just make the damn tournament and I'll be happy. There's no excuse for Alabama to not make a field of 64 year-in and year-out. But of course, we seem to say the exact same thing every year, while lesser programs get to experience it.
