Al.com reports that Hurts had two, almost 3 tds and says nothing about any pick 6. Says he had the better overall day.

Most other reports from practice observers have indicated Hurts threw an interception to Josh Jobe.

Al.com has more reason to perpetuate this "competition" or even to suggest a controversy, because it will create for them more activity to their websites and may even sell a few newspapers.

I also read that Hurts' 2 tds were vs the #2 defense.

In any event, I still think it's likely that both qbs will play vs Louisville. Previously, though, I said I thought Jalen would start, but I think Tua has proven he deserves to start the game.

Mainstream QB controversy media. Can't be trusted.

Unless Jalen isn't concerned about redshirting, I think this would be incredibly stupid

Course, he can play 4 games and still redshirt. Assuming Saban settles on Tua as the starter, the best thing for Alabama may be to save Hurts for the end of the year, in case Tua were to be injured before the stretch run, but in that case, Hurts may not care anyway what would be the best thing for Alabama. I'm pretty sure "The Brand" would be looking out for his own best interest.

I have no earthly idea, but Saban may be thinking that Hurts will check out if he isn't chosen as the #1 qb, at least mentally if not logistically, so he may not be counting on him for the end of the year.

Anyway, I think both will play vs Louisville.

Technically, we did. Then that 5 star backup would get injured. Injuries are always bad. But since they have been concentrated to certain position groups, that's what's been killing us.

Since Hurts graduates in December and can then transfer, enroll and participate in spring practice anywhere, he may not be that concerned about redshirting to preserve a 2nd year of eligibility. Reportedly, he's made some progress since spring. In order to continue progressing, it might actually be in his best interest to play as much as possible as the #2 QB this season.

I have come to the conclusion that Hurts will start or play ALOT or Saban would have declared him #2 already if all these “reports “ from practices are correct. Prepare yourselves

I completely disagree.

Sabana states that there is an open competition at every spot in fall camp. At some spots, the starters are obvious to everyone. At others, it's not so clear. Saban hasn't named a #1 and # 2 Star. He also hasn't named a number #1 or #2 at LG, RG, and RT. And a number of # 2 spots are up for grabs across the board. Daban isn't naming any of those players and positions as anything.

Why is QB different? Because fans and the media want to know? Bullcrap. It means less than nothing. As a matter of fact, I believe Saban counts such nonsense as "clutter" and is to be eliminated from your fall camp and athletic facility as a whole.

I can't think of one way it could possibly benefit the 2018 Crimson Tide for Saban to PUBLICLY declare a starter at QB. Competition should be encouraged in every conceivable way, and the best players will play. Nearly all the evidence points to that being Tua. Thinking anything other than that is just desiring drama with your football.

Most teams declare a starter at some point of fall camp after the “ competition”.

I have no idea what Hurts' future plans are as it relates to his college playing experience. However, I can guarantee you that he wants to play QB in the NFL, and with that being the case, I can further guarantee that he is striving to improve at QB as much as possible each and every day. Whether he'll be a significant contributor to the Tide this season remains to be seen, but he's busting his arse to get better, and that can be taken to the bank.

I still think there will be pre determined series for each, which isn't to say that might not change once the game starts.

1) Most teams aren't Alabama.

2) We haven't gotten the the "after" part of the competition. Just because the eventual stater seems very likely doesn't mean the competition is over, and the same goes for each and every position.

3) Saban will name a starter when it benefits the team to do so, and not a second before.

4) It amazes me how so many Bama fans can't conceive that maybe, just maybe it's this very "competition" that's making Tua better?

If Louisville game week gets here, and there's not a clear QB1 with regard to practice reps with the 1s, then you can worry. Until then, this is looking exactly like a Nick Saban fall camp.

Not even when McCarron and Sims were battling, or Blake Sims and Coker, and not when Barnett/Bateman/Hurts were all vying for the starting spot was it this clear cut to so many outside the program who was the better qb, and Saban making sure it's known far and wide that there is this supposed competition. And it certainly wasn't the case when McElroy and McCarron were returing starters. So no. This isn't the same as every other fall camp at Alabama.

Don't bet the farm on it.

I mean, not by Nick Saban is it settled.

I wish he'd defer to the offensive coaches he hires to run the offense.

Bullcrap. We had QB competitions that spilled into the season in 2011, 2014, 2015,and 2016. Every time Saban said the guy that wins the team will get the job. He's saying the same thing now.

Get outta here with that rewriting history nonsense.

Guess everyone is just wondering how long it takes to “win the team”. By all accounts one has but it is his decision. If it is Hurts so be it, Nothing to get upset about
