You guys need to calm down with this Tua is coming back mindset.
There's not a chance in hell he gets beyond pick 19/20 (whatever the Steelers ---> Dolphins 1st round pick is)
And this is assuming the Dolphins don't go ahead and take him at 4/5

I know Boz sure as hell doesn't know.
Really? Do tell all your inside info?
Anyway, he is leaning on coming back.

I’ve seen some mock drafts with Tua going as the 5th pick to the dolphins, I’ve seen some with Tua going in the 20’s and I’ve seen a few with him not even in the first round. Going to be interesting that’s for sure, I just hope he doesn’t get false feedback as to where he might be chosen. Tough decision to make not knowing what the future holds!

Plus you have TWO organizations looking to replace their HOF QBs. Yeah I think I’d be ok with falling to the Saints or Patriots.
JJ, I'm not trolling or anything. How do the Saints view, Taysom Hill? I kinda thought he was the Brees replacement, but I really don't know

Top 5 pick is much better than 17-
If he comes back you have to trust the feedback he got and your really have to respect his confidence

He is a Swiss Army Knife. I don't foresee him ever being the full time QB. Especially if a talent like Tua is sitting there when they pick.

I think we are underestimating factors that might not make sense to us. The Tagovailoas don't seem to be as motivated about money as some other players might be. I don't know how true this is, but I've heard rumors that Tua's father is highly encouraging him to stay for his senior season so he can graduate and get his degree.

I doubt Tua will be playing for Alabama next season, and that will make the qb depth chart very interesting to watch.
I think Mac will end spring practice #1, but if Young is as good as advertised I wouldn't be surprised if he starts the first game. Neither would I be surprised if Taulia is the starting qb first game. I think he's the wild card and is better than he's given credit.
I think Mac will be graduated by the fall. If he isn't the starter I expect he will transfer.
Still, I expect the depth chart first game will be
Jones
Taulia
Young

I’m just making a general observation here.
I know that people are all about Nick being a cold, unemotional and calculating coach who only plays guys who are even just a little bit better than the next guy, but this is not the case. 1) CNS has a heart and he has a relationship with his players and their families. He doesn’t want to throw guys away like fantasy football players. 2) Nick values loyalty to the team and hard work. It was his own calling card as an under-talented player. He rewards these character traits. 3). Nick knows that replacing guys in a heart-beat, just because someone comes along who is maybe a little better, kills incentive to work hard and be loyal to the team. What guy would want to stick around if coach might find some hot-shot high schooler and replace an all SEC QB with the freshman just because he is a little better but raw? (Jalen and Tua). What parent would want to send their kid to play for a coach who is all about “What have you done for me lately?” 4) Saban values experience and knowledge of the playbook.
So all of this goes together to say that Mac will not only start next year, but will be the starter until he exhausts his eligibility.
This, of course, assumes that McCorckle is able to do some basics of what Nick wants done. For example; if he can’t pass the ball down the field and instead tucks the ball and runs to his right, or if he simply cannot process reads fast enough, or if he consistently freaks under pressure, continues to throw interceptions or make other mistakes, then Nick will make a change. Nick will play the guy who gives the best opportunity to win, but it will have to be a clear situation.
If McCorckle does his job and wins, he won’t be replaced just so we can have a flashier offense or to keep a talent from transferring.
Again, I am not disagreeing with you John, just building on what you have said.

I'm not as certain as you that Saban will always play the best guy but I hoped there would be some discussion about the depth chart, and don't expect everybody to agree with me.

It’s simple really if he gets enough 1st round money he will go but he and his dad won’t miss on that bonus money, if he falls to low he comes back.

I don't watch the NFL anymore, nor do I watch the draft. About what pick does the bonus money significantly drop? Are there many cases where a later pick gets a lot more bonus money than earlier picks?

Unless I am misremembering the new rules... "bonus" is somewhat deceptive. It all counts as money toward the first year contract salary. The "bonus" really just represents guaranteed money, which is huge... especially if you have an injury history. So, more bonus equals less salary and vice versa.
A first round pick has to sign a 4 yr contract, which gives the team an option to extend them for a 5th yr.
The 5th yr salary is predetermined. A top 10 draft pick gets avg salary of the top 5 players at his position.
Draft picks 11-32 get avg of top 25 players at their position.
Rounds 2-7 come with 4 yr contracts. They can't be extended without renegotiating a new signing bonus, which is a bit of a perk.
Undrafted free agents sign 3 yr deals.
So. Being a later draft pick drops the initial salary incrementally and somewhat significantly.
But, for Tua, getting 2 rd plus money, negotiating for a hefty guaranteed money upfront, having time to heal with less pressure to contribute immediately, going to a potentially much better situation long term, the option to renegotiate a large 2nd contract sooner, and still making a lot of money through endorsements is not a bad deal either. So, I'm unsure it will be a 1st round or not type decision for him

That is a very bad deal compared to what he could get as a first round rookie. Plus, there's no guarantee he gets to renegotiate with his second contract when you consider his history with injuries. If he stays for his senior season, remains healthy, and puts up Heisman-like numbers again, he's a Top 5 pick in the 2021 draft.

If he is able to negotiate a higher % of guaranteed money with a 2nd rd contract than he would be able to in the first rd due to his injury history, it could be a nice hedge.
Coming back to college can be insured against further injury, but has it's own risks
lots to consider and impossible to judge what is best for him. But, I'm certain his faith will carry him to the best decision and/or end for him

I thought all the picks are “slotted” and the salaries ?

If I was him I would not risk another year of injury playing amateur ball. Go for the pay if projected to go in the first round.
