Fair. Good point. If Sayin is as good as advertised, we could have a very similar situation next year.

Milroe is probably going to play on Sundays too. He might even win the Heisman next year, he has the best odds to.
Not unless we change our offense to fit his strengths- something more akin to the gusbus offense. I think he would be hell on wheels in a system like that. But I want to be a pro style team because that's what attracts the best offensive skill players, and puts guys in the league.
Gusbus offense can help the QB gain Heisman numbers, but at the expense of other skill players, and then theres the fact when you line up vs a very good defense they shut that shite down usually.

Rees did start to do that toward the end of the season. We gave Georgia their first loss in two years with Milroe at QB and took probable NC Michigan to overtime with him at QB.
Acting like he is a bad QB or we need to totally revamp everything we did this year on offense is a huge overreaction. As you guys who wont admit it will realize tomorrow night, Michigan has a great defense.
No offense has much success vs them all season.

Going to be interesting because there is no debating Penix ability.

They should have more success vs Michigan than anyone else had because Penix is very good and is a 5th year SR, he’s seen everything. They also have two first round WRs and their O line won the award for best o line in the country. Even with all that I don’t think they have a ton of success vs Michigan’s defense, Vegas has them projected to score 26 points which seems about right.
Saban’s first choice to be our OC was Washington’s OC and he turned us down because Washington had so much returning. That would have been a great hire.

They're good but not great. They have weaknesses that will show up Monday night.

Smart took a very poor approach to defending Alabama's offense and Milroe really didn't play that great of a game as a passer v. Georgia. Alabama ran into a slew of teams that don't blitz much or were scared to blitz an athletic QB . It bailed Alabama out of dealing with their biggest weaknesses on offense.
I think what Michigan demonstrated essentially nothing materially changed from the first half of the season, just the matchups with the opponents or their bad coaching decisions. The QB and center could not make protection adjustments or identify coverages presnap. Milroe is just not a student of the game. He probably does well in the weight room and is a hit with the boys in the locker room. He's not Mac Jones who could've probably written Alabama playbook from memory and knew each opponent's defense about as well as their signal caller. Being an elite QB takes both and chopping it up in the locker room is never going to help Jalen recognize cover 6 with a slot corner blitz.
Jalen won this job because he built the relationships but if he wants to keep it he's going to need to become a film study junky. He's got serious deficiencies at understanding what is going on out there...

The people that deny Milroe isn't a qb won't even admit it when Penix slices this defense up.
And with the way Sark neutralizes pass rush with quick passes, tejas would've beaten Michigan, too, imo.

That is fair.
We also only scored 24 at home vs Arkansas. Needs a miracle to score 27 on Aubie. 24 vs Ole Miss. It was kind of the joke that 27 was our ceiling…

Alabama only score 30+ against P5 opponents 4 times this season:
@MSU 40-17
UT 34-20
LSU 42-28
UK 49-21
Tennessee game only went over 30 because of a non-offensive touchdown. The offense only score 30 or more against P5 opponents 3 times in 2023! Truly, this was the worst Alabama offense since the 2007 team.

It did seem that way at times but we averaged 34 points a game. Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss averaged 35 points per game.
We had the 3rd best scoring offense in the SEC behind Ole Miss and Georgia. I think Georgias offensive stats were inflated a bit, they ran the score up some games, they scored 63 vs FSU for instance.

Thanks for posting that pod segment. It's interesting and I like to hear the opinions of some people that actually do have a lot of knowledge.
It's not some huge gotcha point like a of posts on this board. Basically just says the different defense Michigan used from UGA worked well because our coaches didn't think Milroe could read the defensive rush pre-snap and adjust blocking schemes. They also panicked that Michigan would steal the signs and so they made the Center do it instead. Michigan put a DL in his face and took advantage of that weak link of his troubles with snapping before reaching for a block.
It's definitely saying they out coached us there.
About the QB, he's not overly critical of Milroe just pretty objective about what he hasn't learned to do that many other starting QBs can.
Says that he would bet that you will see a starting Alabama QB next spring that can read the defense to make those necessary calls. Says that QB may well be Milroe but it will not be if he doesn't earn the coaches' trust to read the defense pre-snap by then.

I looked at the numbers. We were at 30.6 if you take out the UTC and MTSU games. To be fair, I also took out the USF game as it skewed us down and Milroe did not play. If you take out non offensive TDs in those games, we are just barely under 30.

Well you’d have to take out the game Ole Miss scored 73 vs Mercer too to get an accurate comparison of how Kiffins offense did vs ours. You seem reasonable I like discussing football with you.
Same with Powhound, I know him back from the Woolyal days.

Jalen was benched because he was a bad quarterback. He was struggling to get over 150 passing yards and a third of that was pop pass yardage

Michigan does have a great defense, but there were also many open receivers missed.

I agree with everything Josh said. Makes perfect sense and aligns with what I was seeing.
We had dudes open, but pressure, failure to adjust protection and horrific snaps just destroyed our timing.

I would love to be a fly on the wall in the meeting room when Saban and Rees are discussing QB, line play, etc.

A guy who ended up being the runner up for the heisman and is starting in the NFL was a “bad qb. “You guys have some wild definitions for what a bad qb is.
Was Jayden Daniels a bad qb before he won the Heisman this year? His numbers last year were bad.

I'm not sure why you're comparing Milroe to Jayden Daniels when Daniels didn't have the deficiencies Milroe has, as far back as when he was a freshman. He can run options, he can make some form of pre-snap adjustments, he can actually throw against zone coverage and over the middle. Hell, he knows when to use his legs and probably cuts our sack total in half.
The amount of improvement Milroe would have to make, to even be comparable to Daniels, is years of work on the mental side of the game. Right now we have Nick Marshall at QB, but a Nick Marshall that can't decide when to use his legs
Swap 2022 Daniels with Milroe against Michigan and we probably win that game by a score or two. We probably get at least 200 yards passing, less LB pressure on the backs, and a better 3rd down rate than 3 for 13
