This Alabama team has a chance to solidify itself as one of if not the best Alabama team of all time and the last 3 years as the best 3 year stretch in Alabama history depending on performance in the tournament.

Assuming we finish the season as Torvik/KenPom predict and then lose in the SECT game and make the S16 (trying to remain very conservative here haha)

2021 - 2023 (Oats)
Overall : 75-28 (73%)
SEC : 41-13 (76%)
2 SEC Championships
1 SEC Tournament Championsip
2 Sweet 16s
3 NCAA Tournaments

2002 - 2004 (Gottfried)
Overall : 64-33 (66%)
SEC : 27-21 (56%)
1 SEC Championships
1 Elite 8
3 NCAA Tournaments

1989 - 1991 (Wimp)
Overall : 72-27 (73%)
SEC : 36-18 (67%)
3 SEC Tournament Championsips
2 Sweet 16s
3 NCAA Tournaments

1985 - 1987 (Wimp)
Overall : 75-24 (76%)
SEC : 40-14 (74%)
1 SEC Championship
3 Sweet 16s
3 NCAA Tournaments

1974 - 1976 (CM)
Overall : 67-14 (83%)
SEC : 45-9 (83%)
3 SEC Championships
1 Sweet 16s
2 NCAA Tournaments (would be 3 today)

1954 - 1956 (Dee)
Overall : 56-16 (78%)
SEC : 37-7 (84%)

It's interesting to see how good we were in the 80s.
Wimp was a great coach and he had a couple teams that were final 4 material. They just ran into teams that were hot in the sweet 16.

Unless this team can put together a F4 run I think the CM run in the mid 70s is safe.

Maybe the most impressive part being the lack of roster continuity. I’m willing to bet the other teams had several upperclassmen and some experienced depth. Anybody besides JQ been in Tuscaloosa for all of the last three seasons?

That 75-76 Bama team is still the best ever at Bama. We stomped a mudhole in ACC Champ UNC in the first round (they didn't seed the games like they do today) and we had a great chance to beat that undefeated Indy team in the Sweet 16; we led by one with 2 minutes left but Indiana scored the final 6 points of the game to win it. At the time, coach Bobby Knight called this Alabama team the best that any of his teams had faced...

If there was an SEC team of the decade for the 80s, arguably it is Alabama.
Kentucky was off, had some probation issues. But this also was coming off their 1978 national title.

86/87 is still my all time favorite team, but they ran into Billy D and that Brooks kid from Providence.

I was only in middle school then. My fondest memory is the '91 team. Got beat by tourney champ Arkansas.

I was 16 and would be embarrassed to tell you how upset that made me. Getting beat by Kentucky four times that year was rough too.

How many times have we been 21-3? Not many, once? maybe twice?

We all use to go to the coaches offices before class and read the morning sports paper, that Monday when the paper had the brackets, we had Bama in the final 4 against G-Town. we were 17 and thought about driving up to Louisville to see that game, but we were 17 and it was a school night when they played Providence. I am 53 and still upset over that loss

I mean it wasn't even close. The 3's just kept going in. Sad day.

Is Miller better than D McKey? I mean, probably but maybe not. Different type players a bit.

I'm 55 and still hold a grudge. That was the team that was going to blow through Wimp's Sweet-16 glass ceiling.

I still wonder what could have been if Wimp hadn't broke out the pimp hand. Seven of his last eight seasons were 23 wins or more. He really had the train rolling.

They're different players, but as a freshman yes and it's not close at all.

He's the best freshman I've ever seen at Alabama period.

The 76 team avg more points per game with no shot clock and no 3 pt line.

Pump the brakes on greatest team ever

If this team wins the SEC Title (going away) and goes to the Final Four they're the best team ever.

Long way to go there, though.

This is when I started really following Alabama basketball. I was 11-13 at this time. Horry, Spreewell, Hollywood Robinson, Cheatum, Caffey. Tons of NBA talent that played exiting bball. Wimp was also usually good for some sideline antics. Went to games all the time and knew Coleman sucked even then. Jk (sorta)

They will definitely be the most accomplished team. But they aren’t there yet.

But crowning they the best ever is premature.. and considering the numbers, they aren’t the best Offensive team regardless. They avg 11 threes a game. So put them up against the 76 team, that’s 11 less points on the season avg
