This is a reply I saw to someone who had picked Hofstra, I really think it gives a good synopsis.
quote:
literally everyone outside of the SEC fanbases likes Hofstra against Bama. Because they misunderstand Bama's offense and Bama's struggles. Bama is perfectly happy scoring in the paint. They just beat the shite out of Auburn by scoring 63 in the paint and making less than 10 3s. Bama has struggled with size and rebounding. Bama is bigger and more talented than Hofstra in the paint. Hofstra has good guards for their level, BUT, even without Holloway, theres maybe 4 teams with a better depth chart of guards than Alabama. Philon(future Lotto pick), Wrightsell, Amari Allen(future lotto), Mallette, and former top 10 recruit Jalil Bethea, are a formidable group. Bama has the depth at guard to absorb the Holloway loss.
Now, the true X factor, is Bama's mentality. This team has struggles with actually showing up and respecting opponents. 4 or 5 of their losses were to teams they should have beaten because they assumed they could walk on the court and win. If they do that on Friday, Hofstra will have a chance. But if Bama shows up ready to play, they should wipe the floor with Hofstra. I fully expect Hofstra to lose their legs in the second half of the game because of the pace, and Bama to win easily.

Philon has generally picked his spots to take over all season but tomorrow (and the rest of the tournament), he needs to have a takeover mentality. Needs to touch the ball on every possession he’s on the floor.

Maybe a lot of them saw a shitty squad like Ole Miss outrebound them?
I have them beating Hofstra but losing the next game. I had them losing the next game anyway, even with Holloway.
If they somehow get to the Sweet 16, it will be a major accomplishment for this squad. It's Philon and the other guys. On O, Philon needs to be handling the ball and shooting more than he has all season.

I have us losing in Sweet 16 to Michigan. I would have had that with or without Holloway. I think it makes the Texas Tech game tougher but I think we still get by. Tech may even lose to Akron. Think we absolutely roll Hofstra.

How about High Point beating Wisconsin

Honestly just at a point I'd like to just get a win in the tournament and allow the rest be gravy. A S16 would be incredible, considering that would be four straight seasons of at least making it to the S16. But with the way the limitations in the front court and the Holloway deal, I think it's okay to accept a R32 loss. Would not be okay with an upset in the first round.

Why does it seem like Wisconsin is always a 4-5 seed that always chokes early? Haven't looked up anything...just seems like they're that team.

Michigan struggling early

Kind of like seeing AJ Dybantsa blowing it.

BYU drops a massive bag for one season of Dybantsa only to be sent packing day one. You love to see it.

Maybe too many folks have more money than god, but how will NIL be sustainable? BYU paid Dybantsa a king’s ransom and all they got out of it was an average regular season and a first round tourney exit. Why would a donor keep giving ridiculous money without real returns?

They won’t. Even if they have 10 billion. Rich people still don’t like giving money away for nothing.
NiL is a novelty and this bubble will pop sooner than later.

It's not sustainable. Mormons are rich but not stupid.

No they’re stupid too

That's not even considering the actual economy. Something tells me Larry Ellison won't be doing NIL deals anytime soon.

Religion aside, they have their isht together. Utah, alone, is a state that's in better shape than most.

True enough. They are very silly people but they do well financially. Saving all that money from not drinking Starbucks.

About to be a huge Kennesaw St fan this evening.

Georgia getting bludgeoned right back into obscurity. What an embarrassing effort.
