Alabama softball capped an undefeated weekend at the Easton Bama Bash with a 2-0 shutout win over Southern Indiana Sunday afternoon at Rhoads Stadium.
Alabama (10-0) scored both of its runs in the first inning before the Crimson Tide and Southern Indiana (1-4) battled in a pitchers' duel the rest of the way. Alea Johnson (1-0) entered to pitch with two outs in the first inning after an injury to starter Lauren Esman and threw 5.1 shutout innings to earn the win, tying her previous career high with six strikeouts. Kayla Beaver secured the final three outs of the game, grabbing her second save of the weekend.
From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"We always say if our pitching and our defense are constant, we're doing great. Also, if you face a team that never scores, you'll never lose. Today was a prime example of that. We scored in the first inning and that was it. Their pitcher threw a great game and Alea [Johnson] pitched great for us when she didn't think she was going to have to come in so early. [Kayla] Beaver eventually came in and shut the door for us."

Wow. What a loser's mentality. No wonder he can't win another title.

We're going to get absolutely blasted in SEC play. Murph is a dinosaur.

A pair of home runs and a solid outing in the circle led Alabama softball to a 9-1 run-rule win in six innings over North Alabama Wednesday afternoon at Rhoads Stadium.
Alabama (11-0) scored in each of the first three innings, leading 6-0 before North Alabama (7-4) erased the shutout with an RBI groundout in the top of the fourth. With the score still 6-1 in the bottom of the sixth, a bases-loaded single from Larissa Preuitt drove in a pair before Kali Heivilin ended it two batters later with an RBI single, securing the run-rule victory.
Abby Duchscherer got the scoring started with a first inning home run, her second long ball of the season, to drive in two runs. Emma Broadfoot launched a three-run homer in the third inning, part of a 2-for-3 day at the plate for the senior infielder. In total, the offense scored its nine runs on 10 hits, marking the Tide's fifth double-digit hit performance of the season and its second-highest run total. Jaala Torrence (4-0) threw a complete-game gem in the circle, allowing just one run on two hits with a season-best six strikeouts with no walks. Of her 88 pitches thrown, 69 went for strikes.
From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"We were so excited by Abby Duchscherer's home run in the first inning. I felt like she was going to do something big. After the team's lackluster performance on offense Sunday, she got us started off with a bang. The defense was awesome too. Jaala Torrence was really good in the circle and didn't give up a single walk. I thought she was in complete control the whole game. UNA is a very good team. They made it to the championship of their conference tournament last year and I bet they will be a regional team this year. It was a big win for us."

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but has there been any word on whether Alexis DeBoer is transferring to Bama?

Alexis DeBoer
At the signing day event Coach DeBoer said she planned to honor her commitment to Washington. He said she had been a fan of Washington softball for a long time.
I have also heard rumors she was at opening weekend for Bama softball. I don’t think Murphy would ask her to come - but I bet he’d find a spot for her if she entered the portal (or if she asked to get released from her NLI).

Thank you, appreciate the info!

I don't know why anyone would want to transfer from Washington to play for Patrick Murphy.

It is a package deal. Nicole Deboer to be named head softball coach after this season. The daughter will portal to Bama. This is one of the big reasons KD took the Bama job and Greg B is in on it. Only thing to ruin this plan is for Murph to not shite the bed and win a natty. And with our team BA I doubt this will happen. During the preseason your team BA should be well over 300 against teams like Southern Indiana but we are hovering at the 300 mark. Thank goodness the team ERA is under 1, but what do you expect with the teams we have played. VA is the only team we have played with a pulse
