“Finally got to the bottom of the Bill O’Brien mystery, and why he’s not back here as offensive coordinator. A) O’Brien made a two-year commitment to Saban. B) Belichick just wasn’t going to put Saban, his good friend, in the position of giving his blessing on O’Brien leaving. Sure, you and I can say it shouldn’t be that hard to pick up the phone and say, “Hey Nick, you can just tell me no and I’ll go away … but do you think you could stand to lose Billy?” That seems reasonable and follows the old adage of it never hurts to ask … but Belichick knew that wouldn’t be fair to put Saban in that position, so he didn’t touch it with a 10-foot pole. Now, don’t rule out O’Brien for next season if the Matt Patricia-Joe Judge plan does not work well.”

Louisville threw for only 3000 yards and 21 tds last year so Harrell was a big chunk of that. Not to mention the dude only played in 10 games. I don't wanna hype up a guy before he even transfers but this could be a great pickup

I think it would be huge. The kid wants that first round guarantee

Imagine how annoyed everyone will be in the Texas game when Gibbs, Burton, and Harell score and Ricks has an INT

Maybe I’m being a little presumptuous but is anyone else a bit uneasy to put it mildly that we are this excited about an OL transfer from Vanderbilt? I am definitely stereotyping and generalizing the young man without knowing how he has performed individually. But it’s VANDERBILT! I’ll concede it’s almost certainly an upgrade over Randolph but does anyone else have a case of nerves that we are in essence betting the farm on this kid? Flame away.

This is quite a strange take. A veteran lineman to add depth isn't a bad thing, and no one's "betting the farm" on him. Gibbs came from Tech and its not like they're some offensive powerhouse. Bolstering positions with experienced guys isn't a reason to panic. It's possible Saban knows what he's doing.

I think it’s one thing to change from a weaker school to a top tier school as a skill player after some success. It’s entirely another to transfer from a bottom feeder P5 school as an OL, especially one as crucial as LT where you almost always face the opponent’s best edge rusher, to a top 3 program and do it seamlessly. I hope to goodness I have misjudged this young man and he performs wonderfully but he’ll have to show me.
As for the tired, old “don’t question Saban” routine, I’m not. But thanks to a perfect storm of recruiting via Zoom that resulted in some possible misevaluations and a very bad OL coaching hire that he was sort of forced into by BoB, CNS just might have accidentally found himself between a rock and a hard place and is having to make some decisions he wouldn’t normally make. He’s the GOAT but he’s not infallible and can make an occasional misstep. Especially one that wasn’t entirely of his own making. Try again.
