With the scrimmage happening today but closed to public and reporters, can we expect any tidbits to get posted here by anyone that might have some insiders?

BOL reporting a hard hitting practice last night which is unusual before a scrimmage. Tyson took some reps with the ones and Milroe with the twos which has not happened really at all so far in camp. Bryce still the clear no. 1 guy.

DJ Dale banged up again...not great that key guys like Dale and Ray are already hurt. I like our depth, though. I wouldn’t mind seeing Tim Smith as a starter tbh.

Jameson Williams making big plays still. Big plays last night.

Excited for nuggets from today’s scrimmage

Dale is another guy who has had injury problems since he came in. It's really time to let the younger interior defensive linemen get some opportunities. I'm interested to see if guys like Jamil Burroughs and Damon Payne get some snaps.

Dale and Ray have both been disappointments so far. Can’t make a difference if you’re always in the training room. Time to let Tim Smith eat.

Dale is not an impressive player at all. He just stands there and catches blocks. Smith is a disruptive dude who scares the opposing team. Smith, Burroughs and Payne need snaps. In today's game, you have to disrupt the passing game and pursue to the ball. Another reason why I think that Jah Marien Latham will be in the rotation.

Dale actually showed some real promise the first few games his freshman year before his first injury. He’s just never gotten back to close to that type of play. Like you said, he seems to just stand there and catch blocks. No playmaking at all. Tim Smith needs to take the position and run with it. Dale can come in a give him a breather here and there but not much else.

Dale could easily be third string by the end of the season. Burroughs, Payne and even Anquin Barnes are talented players with more upside. My hope is that they have a coordinated rotation up front to keep players fresh.

I’m excited to see when Payne will begin to contribute. I learned that his father was on officer in the Marines and worked with children after retiring from the Corps.

Pre-scrimmage nuggets:
quote:

I don’t remember Alabama practicing the night before a scrimmage, but I was told it was a hard practice with a lot of plays. Here are a few quick nuggets ahead of today’s first scrimmage:

-- Jameson Williams continues to impress at the wide receiver position. His downfield speed is what separates him from the rest of the group, which is something Nick Saban said the position was lacking in the spring. I’m not yet predicting that he’ll be in the starting lineup vs. Miami, but if he keeps this up, I don’t see how he’s not. I’m interested to see what he does today.

-- On the defensive side of the ball, a player that I continue to hear about is Brian Branch. We saw him working with the cornerbacks earlier this week, and he saw a few first-team reps there in last night’s practice. Branch could continue to play the Money in Alabama’s dime defensive package, but this is a guy that just seems too good not to be on the field this season.

-- There was a little bit of a change on the second-team offensive line last night that will likely carry over to today’s scrimmage. Tommy Brown moved from left guard to right guard to make room for Pierce Quick, so the second unit consisted of Amari Kight at left tackle, Quick at left guard, Darrian Dalcourt at center, Brown at right guard and JC Latham at right tackle.

-- It might have been the first time it’s happened this summer, but Paul Tyson got a few reps with the ones yesterday, while Jalen Milroe did the same with the twos. Up to this point, Tyson had exclusively worked with the twos and Milroe with the threes. That being said, it’s still very clear that Bryce Young is the first-team quarterback, but it’s good, in my opinion, that the other signal-callers are getting some familiarity with the ones and twos for the fall.

-- We didn’t see Shane Lee at Thursday’s practice viewing, but he appears to be dealing with an injury. He was in a black jersey at last night’s practice, per a photo from UA Athletics. The same can be said for defensive lineman DJ Dale. Stepping in for Lee on the second-team defense was freshman Deontae Lawson, so Lawson and Jaylen Moody manned the second unit while Christian Harris and Henry To’o To’o led the Tide’s first-team defense.

Scrimmage 1 is set to begin at 2:30 p.m. CT, and we’ll hear from Saban around 4:30 p.m.

Bryce Young threw a couple of short TD passes to JoJo Earle and Cameron Latu, while Paul Tyson threw a long TD pass to Thaiu Jones-Bell. Those are the only touchdowns I've heard of so far, but I hope to have more after it's over.

It never fails that we have a player or two that fans can't wait to bash. Now it's Dale whose injury is being "cheered". What next?

Sorry, folks, but with Ray and Dale both on ice, we are now down potentially two of our three starting DLs. No matter how you slice it, a once deep-appearing DL chart isn't looking so hot.

I like Smith too, but I don't want him jumping the chart due to injuries. Ridiculous. I don't think any of these frosh are ready yet.

Tim Smith isn't a freshman, and he's ready for primetime regardless of Ray and Dale getting injured. Mathis, Eboigbe, Young & Latham are excellent too.

D-Line (14)
Sr: P Mathis*, L Ray*
Jr: S Wynn*, DJ Dale, J Eboigbe, B Young
So: B Ingraham*, T Smith, J Burroughs
Fr; J Latham*, M Goodwine, D Payne
Fr: A Barnes, T Keenan

based on the comments at his press conference, saban seems to feel pretty good about the dl depth tbh. he didn't have to say that.

Saban on defensive line: We probably have eight or nine who can contribute in that rotation.
