CBS Sports:

2021 SEC spring football: Six key questions and storylines to follow as practices get underway

There are questions abound in the nation's top football conference as spring sessions begin

quote:

It seems like only yesterday when Alabama ran on the field in Miami Gardens to celebrate a College Football Playoff National Championship win over Ohio State. But the sport of college football never sleeps as spring practices are cranking up around the country. With that come burning questions and storylines in the nation's top football conference.

Alabama's reign hinges on coach Nick Saban's ability to plug in top-tier talent with top-tier talent; LSU is looking to get back on the top of the college football world; and new coaches are hoping to make big impacts in Year 1.

So what are the top spring storylines that will emerge as the flowers bloom? Let's break down the top six.

I was interested in the article but when I saw that Barrett Sallee wrote it, I stopped reading.

Every year I ask this: Any nuggets on anyone who's performing well in 4th quarter, someone to keep eye on for spring?

This is from another board, someone with connections:

quote:

Yes. Here's a little of what I've learned over the last few weeks.

The foundation of the offense is being put in place now through film study. O'Brien doesn't believe they'll have the entire offense installed this spring and doesn't see the need. It's all about knowing where they are going with their offensive philosophy.

The concept of what they'll be doing this fall is changing a bit; some due to personnel and some due to what fits O'Brien's offensive style. In simpler terms where we saw the team score on four possessions last year, we'll see that in seven this season. The term I've heard used on a few occasions is "deliberate."

The one side note to this I find interesting. We're looking at watching a defense that has some quality experience in all three units as well as depth. It's one that should be able to stay on the field, and fresh, in the fourth quarter. And now we're also looking at an offensive approach that'll keep them off the field longer.

I'm hearing a lot of great things from the players side. I appreciate how it's being relayed. When you have someone teaching something new while explaining "we're doing it this way because..." AND the students/players like and relate to how it's being broken down? There's your foundation.

Coming off the College Football Playoff National Championship, Alabama will participate in their annual A-Day activities on Saturday, April 17 at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN. The Crimson Tide will also have their Pro Day televised by SEC Network on Tuesday, March 23 at noon.

Alabama's Pro Day, with ESPN CFB analyst and former Crimson Tide QB Greg McElroy reporting on site, is one of four pro days airing on SEC Network this spring. For Alabama's Pro Day on the 23rd, host Dari Nowkhah will be joined by Harper in studio and analyst Gene Chizik from home.

Pro Day events typically include weight room weigh-ins, bench press, vertical jump, broad jump as well as the 40-yard dash, 60-yard shuttle and position workouts for players entering the NFL Draft.

Any inside info or anything on how they’re gonna do tickets for A-Day or how many fans will be allowed? I know Byrne came out and said over a month ago it would be 20-25%, but with the mask mandate and restrictions lifting before the game, Byrne saying next year would be full capacity, and Auburn allowing unlimited fans at their public practice on March 20th, it gives me hope that maybe Byrne will end up deciding it’s open to everyone instead of just 20-25%

I have to agree.... if one school has no limitations, then the others can't have limitations....
If Byrne calls you, tell him I vote to open Bama's A day game to capacity... let's set a new record

Tell the fans they will be accepting donations to the new basketball arena, in lieu of ticket cost to the game.
