Just to reiterate, I think we have the most important junior (Moses) coming back. Now, we just have to sit back and hope for some defensive coaching changes. I think Mac has proven himself against a couple of good defenses. The only big question marks are Metchie, Townsend, and Shavers stepping up. Maybe we’ll see Bolden more as well.
I feel pretty good that Smitty will come back. My logic is that if Saban knew we were losing 3 stud WR's to the draft, we would've landed Arian Smith and/or Xzavier Henderson, and made a bigger push to land the latter. Saban got caught with his pants down and holding the bag on NSD in 2018 and shite hit the fan. He learned his lesson and took nothing for granted at positions of need (OL, DL, and LB) in 2019. There's also no way that Smith and Henderson would turn down the opportunity to start from day 1 and have Taulia or Bryce throwing them the ball for the next 3 years in favor of UGA (Carson freaking Beck+being a downfield blocker in James Coley's system) and UF (Kyle Trask), respectively. I refuse to believe it. I trust Saban and that he learned his lesson from 2018. He knows something that we don't. I have no inside information, but I'll eat the biggest crow if I'm wrong.

I’d like to have Smith back, but I’m just going to assume the group goes out as a package deal. I’m a pessimist though lol.

Smitty coming back is the only thing that makes sense, IMO. My post may sound like a total homer, and believe me, I try really hard not to be, but if Smitty and Ruggs both go to the draft, on top of striking out on Arian Smith and Xzavier Henderson, I'll be a man of my word and eat crow. I'm not worried about doing that, however.

I kept scrolling back and rereading this thread to make sure I was following it the way the participants intended. It’s got all the logic and emotion of a teenage girls slumber party.
It’s certainly helped pass the time on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

I watched a kid with multiple solid FCS offers go walk-on at Tennessee because he and his parents swore he was better than FCS.
Yeah, that rarely works out for those kids, and I feel for them...
That’s what makes Levi Wallace’s story so special. What are the odds that a kid with no D1 scholarships walks on at Bama, earns a scholarship after two years, and starts his senior year for a national championship team where he’s arguably the best corner? And then he goes undrafted, signs as a free agent, and starts for an NFL team for the next two years? Pretty remarkable...

Not sure that had anything to do with our recruiting of WRs bc most thought all would go pro anyway . Think we just missed... it happens

Trying to catch up here but there is no reason to melt over what these kids may or may not do. Especially those getting upset that selfish decision and advice are possibly prompting these kids to declare for the draft. Lets be honest we only want them to stay for selfish reasons.
In regards to Tua I have felt his decision to go or stay was always going to be based mainly on who is coming back. I truly believe Tua wants to come back but who else comes back was always going to carry a lot of weight on his decision. So the gamble is do they believe those in the NFL and possibly make millions or stay and maybe when a NC.

NFL is all about maximizing their own money and where they spend it. If the NY Dr is attached to the NYG's providing a c-/D+ prognosis takes any effort to trade down on their #4 pick because of Tua out of play but it does allow them to trade down and grab a couple of needed pieces then maybe grab Tua in round #2/#3 so they can sit him a year and manage his rehab. Then they would get 2 or 3 years out of him on the cheap before they have to break the bank if he does recover.
If Galu puts trust in the NY Dr over Dr Cain and the team he assembled for Tua, Tua's future is not looking great.
I think the best thing Tua could do is take a medical at Alabama. Work with Cain and his team as well as the Bama training staff. Take it slow and steady without trying to get back by May/June. If he is fully ready to go by August, great. If not, keep working with the training staff til he is ready to go. Work toward trying to get an invite to the combine next year and not worry about the 2020 season unless it just happens to work out. Play the long game while he finishes his degree.

Can’t keep losing multiple Juniors every year and expect to field a great team
It has caught up big time and looks to continue to do so. You can wish the guys all the luck in the world but it’s killing Alabama’s program

I'm not sold on this diagnosis. Pretty skeptical that that was even said.
Tim Watts said on BOL that the family has not told a soul about their intentions. Not sure how anyone would know about what was said in a doctor's appointment. I understand Bama medical staff was there and if Dr. Cain and Jeff Allen were there I'd have to bet they'd put their two cents in. And just a complete guess on my part, it would differ from this NY Giants connected doctor.

Then Bama would have to stop recruiting elite players. Catch 22. It's the biggest selling point to go to Alabama.

Lol that story is such bullshite. Tua went and met with the NY Giant doctors? Lol
That is a NCAA violation if I’m not mistaken

I don’t blame Tua for leaving and I wouldn’t blame him for staying.
I believe Galu can see the writing on the wall with Lia. Mac will start next season, but I think Young will pass Lia, early in the season. Nothing against Lia, I just think Young is such a advanced QB for his age.

Most other schools keep their players somehow
Clemson does
Ohio St does
They usually lose one or two. But losing like 6 guys a year? Even though they won’t even get drafted in the 1st rd?

Idk if you watched the game yesterday but in his 2nd TD pass he literally walked out to his receiver and told him what route to run and then proceeded to throw a 41 yard TD strike to said receiver.

You want to recruit the best then this is the result. You can not have one without the other. How many times have we read some recruit mention the Saban pitch/UA selling point is come to UA get a degree in 3 and/or go to the pros in 3?
Do all the ones claiming Young will be the starter next year if Tua leaves expect him to be here as a senior?
Again this is on the staff how to adjust to this, just like with early signing. And I will wish them good luck because we got 3 great years out of them. They came to the program to win with a chance for a NC and to get drafted. Should I be upset because they used Alabama for their own selfish reasons to reach their goals because my selfish interest in the program was only served for 3 years instead of 4 years?
Just saying.

But guaranteed 1st round money, or a lot less money and the worry that Tua is injury prone. What if he gets hurt again and never makes it past that rookie contract
Players drafted in the 2nd and 3rd round still make a lot more money than college upperclassmen.
A LOT more. Trust me...it would not be the end of the world.

But according to you only Najee, Lewis, and Juedy are leaving so we should be good right?

Everyone of those guys have been mentioned as possible 1st rd picks with the exception of Najee. But I do not see him getting a higher as a RB next year so it makes sense.
And again these players are being recruited on the premise 3 and done to the pros.
