LINK ]Brian Robinson Focused On Texas A&M Game Week By Kirk McNair
quote:
Alabama running back Brian Robinson said Thursday, “The off week probably couldn’t have come at a better time.”
Alabama Coach Nick Saban made it clear this week that the Crimson Tide had not necessarily made the best use of that time. Specifically, he said that Tuesday’s practice was disappointing.
Robinson agreed “Pretty much,” he said, “I try to evaluate my performances at practices and think overall how the team practices. We did some good things and we did some bad things, but overall the focus was off. Coach was upset, a lot of players were upset, tired of making bad decisions. People just weren’t focused in practice. So it just didn’t feel like a good practice."
Both Saban on Wednesday and Robinson on Thursday agreed that improvement was made Wednesday, when Bama went into the indoor facility for its practice.
“We came together as a team,” Robinson said. “We talked. We discussed what this team should be about, what we should focus on moving forward, the practice habits we should work on. [Wednesday] was better energy.
“Not saying it was because we were inside, but it was a lot cooler and guys weren’t as tired. The focus was there. We knew we had a bad Tuesday and had to make up for it.”
In an unusual year, the calendar gives Southeastern Conference teams two open dates this year (Bama’s next one is Nov. 2). Alabama returns to action a week from Saturday, Oct. 12, at Texas A&M. The Aggies also have a bye this week.
Alabama is 5-0 overall and 2-0 in SEC games and ranked No. 1 in the nation. What has been done and where Alabama is ranked, though, was not up for discussion with Robinson, a 6-1. 226-pound junior.
The off week, he said, is about “recovering, getting my legs back under me and still trying to work on my game, fix all the little details in my game that I need to take into next week. I’m pretty much just focused on the game next week and preparing for the game next week now."
Robinson is coming off a good game for an Alabama running back in 2019. With Tua Tagovailoa operating at a high level and targeting wide receivers DeVonta Smith (last week’s national player of the week), Jerry Jeudy (last year’s Biletnikoff winner as the nation’s best wide receiver), and Henry Ruggs III, the running backs, notably starter Najee Harris and Robinson, seem to be almost afterthoughts.
In last week’s 59-31 win over Ole Miss, Tagovailoa passed on 36 plays (for 418 yards) while Bama rushers had 30 opportunities (including 4 runs by Tagovailoa) for 155 yards.
Robinson had the most carries by a running back. Ten. For 60 yards. He averaged 10 yards per carry with his long run 12 yards.
Following the win over Ole Miss, Saban raised the issue of the offense not only scoring, but controlling the play and the tempo to take something off the defense. That sounded like code for “We’ve got to have a better running game.”
Robinson said, “We have to keep the running game balanced. We have to be efficient on first and second downs; always get positive yards, at least half on first and 10 and then try to get half [more] if not four to five [yards on second down]. Keep the running game balanced. We have a lot of play-makers on offense. On the opportunities we get, we have to make the most of it.
"We can still improve as far as just converting on third downs and extending drives to keep the defense off the field. We've got a lot of things we still need to work on as far as making the right decisions, as far as QB reads, running back reads, receivers running the appropriate routes at the appropriate depth, linemen finishing through blocks and transitioning blocks once the guy has the ball in their hands."
As for himself, Robinson said he’s working on “finishing plays, playing a little bit better scheme, make better second level decisions— working on my burst, having a plan once I get to the second level.” By that he means what he does after he gets past the line of scrimmage to maximize yardage.
Sounds like a plan.

If Bama needs 38 to beat A&M, unless there are a bunch of NOTs, I will sympathize with the Bama whiners. I don't think they will.

Alabama’s rushing attack is improving each week and after a performance that saw both its featured running backs average over five yards per carry, it has a chance to be really good next week versus Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas.
The success has been geared toward the offensive line starting to mesh well together and the return of Deonte Brown to the rotation.
After missing six games, dating back to last year’s College Football Playoff, the redshirt junior came back against Mississippi and played well.
He rotated with Evan Neal at left guard in the second half and the duo of Najee Harris and Brian Robinson did not lose a yard as runners.
Both guys combined for 131 yards on 19 carries, and Robinson in particular looked very strong with Brown in the game.

The 6-foot-4, 338-pounder cleared the way for the junior and former four-star to post 60 yards rushing on 10 carries.
With the Aggies allowing 108.4 yards rushing a game (542 yards, five games) and five touchdowns on the ground, one can see why Robinson is smiling to have Brown back.
“He’s very physical,” Robinson said of Brown. “He moves very well for his size. He is smart and he knows his assignment. That is something I am excited for to have him back in the rotation. He is very stout… He reads the blocks perfectly and he does what he has to do on the back end.”
Despite making some improvements on defense, Texas A&M is surrendering nearly four yards per carry (3.74) and Nick Saban wants to control the game. Tua Tagovailoa is having a great season and one that can secure him as the program’s first Heisman-winning quarterback; however, is the team willing to take the ball from Tagovailoa and entrust its backs?
We’ll see what happens next week, but Robinson wants to make the most of his opportunities – especially with Brown back.

Mock draft guru on al.com just had these going first round. Tua at 1 and Ruggs at 6 with Jeudy at 9. Also in first are leatherwood. number 99 the DL and Diggs.
Claims Mosley was first round before he got hurt and could still be considered for first round should he declare. Also said Hurts could be a late first rounder

Did we even recruit the kicker for UF? Know he is from Ft Payne but damn he splits the uprights
Posted on 10/5/19 at 4:20 pm to Bear88
I am sure NS recruited a lot of kickers. You can only offer scholarships to so many. I doubt we can afford more than 2 scholarships for kickers out of the 85

Well he was committed to Mullen at MSU and followed him to UF. Didn’t seem to have many offers

Don't think we offered him till he committed to Florida. Our kicker scouting is atrocious.
Scott,Griffith excepted,Reichard is to be seen.

Nice designed pass rush there by UF

Florida would be up 24-0 if it wasn't for the fumbles and horrible fake punt.
Don't think Auburn is as good as people thought, Nix is a pretty awful passer.

That video looked pretty good. Definitely should think that we should give him a try. Couldn’t be worse than DeShort.

is it too late to send someone to Australia and get one of those guys

For real! What is Saban waiting for? If he's worried he's going to shank one, well, you already know there's a good chance DeShank is going to do that. And even if he hits it clean, it's not going 40 yards. So why not give the Perine kid a chance? Worst thing that could happen is he shanks it like DeLong would. Or, maybe he hits it and it's a JK style moon shot. At least there's the chance something good will happen, amiright?
