The haters need to go back and watch his highlights and see how great his running lane vision is. He’s as fast as Jamo at Derrick Henry size with big arm. Dude is going to be dangerous.

Dangerous is a pretty good word for Milroe’s game that we’ve seen so far. Just hope he’s putting the other team in danger more often than he’s putting Bama in danger. I’m going to be optimistic until proven otherwise. Being thrown into the fire for two games last year with a game plan that looked like it was made for BY isn’t enough to make any definitive judgment and I haven't seen one throw of spring or fall practice.

The offensive coordinator/coaching staff need to earn those huge paychecks and highlight this kid’s strengths and hide his weaknesses.

If you have to have a 1st round pick at QB to be successful as the offensive coordinator at Bama then you are kind of worthless really.

From what scrimmage witnesses report and some limited video and A-day footage, JM seems to throw a pretty good deep ball.

Even if receivers don’t catch them, they still present the threat. This may well back a number of defenses off the line, turn DB’s backs and open up some running room between the 20s. However, inside the red zone having to make shorter throws into tight wondows is a bit scary.

Milroe will do okay with a game plan built around what he does. But he ain’t winning the Heisman.

This really is shaping up to be very similar to 2015 at QB. Coker didn’t lock up the position for good until that Ole Miss game that we lost, regardless of him bringing us back into the game 3x and us falling just short of the W.

Also strange we played Middle Tenn St early in the season that year too.

Despite leading us to a championship, he had several games throughout the year in which he struggled. Ole Miss, Arkansas, Tenn, Miss St. All bumpy outings for the guy, and I was one of his biggest fans. Dude ended the season with 21 TDs and 8 INTs. The only QB to do worse in Saban’s tenure was JPW in 08 and 07 (Jalen did have a lower QBR in 2016 though)

If we’re really getting back to run heavy bully-ball, we can expect QB production to drop off by default. That’s fine though. Like someone said, if you need a 1st round QB in order to win a championship at Bama, you’re probably not very good at your job

Did Ty spend the majority of his time with the 2's? Would he bark at everyone and hang his head or would he try to lift everyone he was teamed with and try to lead?

You hit the nail on the head with one of my primary frustrations.

In the Spring I commented that Milroe was a "rah-rah" guy coming on and off the field, and he still was this weekend.

No one, and I mean no one, took a leadership role on the field, at least from what I saw.

Now obviously I wasn't in the huddle so I can't know what was actually said, but there were a handful of times where someone was lined up wrong, someone was on the sideline when they were supposed to be on the field, a receiver dropped a ball, etc., and not one single time did I see a QB get in their face and sort it out.

I was actually pleading for an A.J. McCarron moment where someone just lost their shite and took control, but it just never happened. (I was losing mine just watching it.)

During the two-minute drills, some guys never seemed to have a sense of urgency, yet none of the QBs were yelling at people to get set.

Saban said afterwards that his plan was to let the kids lead, because he was not going to do it (during the scrimmage). So it was just all right there for them to take.

Maybe they were exhausted, maybe they were all up in their own heads trying to win the job, IDK. But we need a Landon Dickerson type on this team to step up and bust some heads offensively, because the QBs sure don't seem to be doing it.

Coker didn't get much help from that OLine that seemed to love getting Bama skill players tackled for a loss. A lot of that was Kiffin calling a ton of throws behind the LOS. That was all pretty evident in the UT game that year. Thankfully Coker had his best games of the season in the CFP.

I remember a lot of plays where he was forced to improvise with his legs. On some of those he stalled long enough for a WR to break and get wide open. On some he just made the yards happen with his legs. Milroe is capable of both imo. Tbh Buchner and Simpson probably are as well.

I’m prepared to see some ugly wins this year and I won’t even be all that upset about it considering we’ve had plenty of championship seasons littered with them anyway

My mind always goes to Mark Ingram against South Carolina —246 rushing yards and five consecutive direct-snaps to pull away with about five minutes left. Followed by Rocky Block the next weekend.

I guess that year (2009) ended up working out okay.

Fingers crossed.

Yup. That was an ugly year. I tell ya, though, I knew we were good enough when we took care of business at MS State. For years they had been a harbinger of our not finishing the season well.

Took my son to the Auburn game that year. Even Auburn fans on the way out were saying “good teams find a way to win.”

Auburn played way above their heads in that game.

Milroe seems like a good runner, and has great straight ahead speed. What he seems to lack, from what I've seen, is elusiveness in the pocket. He doesn't seem to be as nimble as some of the other QB's (but they don't have his speed, either). Maybe Bryce spoiled us in that regard. We'll see how much he (and the others) have improved pretty doggone soon.

At Alabama our best "teams" had one or two people on each side of the ball that were the uncontested leaders. On O the best spots for those guys were QB and Center. On D the best spots for those guys were MLB, Strong Safety, and one of the DL guys. Then one of those 4 to 6 guys was the leader of the entire team. What he said was law.

If you look back at the 2012 team they had about 9 of those guys.
AJ / Barrett Jones / Chance Warmack / Anthony Steen on O
CJ Mosley / Nico Johnson / Damion Square / Jesse Williams / Dee Milliner on D
And the Team Leader was AJ

Who are those guys this yeaar???

I feel like I'm posting nothing but negatives lately, but on his two-minute drive Saturday there was a fourth down with maybe 30 seconds left in "the game." After the snap he looked off one receiver, scrambled to his right, sort of unexpectedly tried to spin around to his left (think of a Bryce move), and literally fell down.

It was at that point when I posted here that I wasn't even going to do a brief write-up on the day, because I was just done.

From a situational perspective, what scenarios was Saban placing the offense in to see how the QBs would respond?

Bro, I don't know.

After the scrimmage we went to the strip to decompress and discuss, and the exact same topic came up.

We thought about A.J. and Barrett getting into a shoving match up 28, a fight breaking out between Ronnie Harrison, Thompson, and Reuben Foster on the sideline, and the player leadership council sending Tony Brown's arse home from the Cotton Bowl.

When's the last time we saw any of that?

Hell, I'm irrationally irritated that McKinstry is still allowed to wear a green mouthpiece.

IMO we need some former players to go back and set these dudes straight.

We need other teams to be scared of playing us again, and that's got to come from some dogs on the field who refuse to put up with anything less.

A little OT, but check out these old ticket prices. I'm sure there were some folks complaining about them too

I took some time to think about it and heard today the scrimmage for QB’s was play action and stay in the pocket only. Now that I think back that’s about all you saw. If that’s the case Buchner was by far the best at that game. Again I don’t know what gameplan we have. Anyway I’m done stressing about this lol.
