Buchner looked best eh?

I didn’t see it that way at all, FWIW.

In fact, I’ve read a half dozen takes on today and every single one seems slightly different.

Ty Simpson shined in Alabama's second preseason scrimmage.

“I thought Ty looked the best today,” one source said. “He really moved the ball down the field, and the ball was popping out of his hand.
Tony Tsoukalas ”

I have no idea what to think at this point.

Wow. Talk about a wide variety of opinions. Just goes to show you most average fans truly don’t know what they’re looking for.

I dunno. Maybe people are looking for different things. Just didn’t seem like he was on.

Whatever the case may be we will find out soon

Yeah. A lot of different people saw a lot of different things.

I imagine that the same guy who was the back up last year and who was the number one guy to start the spring, who was number one coming into the fall and was first to take the offense today is likely to be the first to take a snap in a couple of weeks. The guy has difference maker talent in his legs and seems to be able to take the top off of the defense - if his receivers catch the ball. A carefully crafted passing game will be in order. No Tua/Bryce slinging it around.

Something makes me think Buchner is their second guy. Poise. Experience. Ability to read defenses and make decisions. We'll see in a couple of weeks.

I’m not worried, we winning the Natty! Undefeated! Beating Georgia twice!

Either we have somehow misevaluated what is probably the highest ranked group of WRs at any school in the country or for the 2nd year in a row we have a development problem at that position. The freshmen weren’t the ones dropping the ball out there and that’s a major problem that does not reflect well on our position coach.

This. Wiggins needs to earn his paycheck. He inherited elite WRs early on, but hasn't done shite the past couple of years. Either WR recruiting evaluations have tanked or development has fallen off a cliff. I lean to the latter because you can't miss on THAT many highly ranked WR recruits.

As for QB... I'm not watching the scrimmages so who knows. I will say that unless Milroe has drastically improved since last season I will go into a depression if he trots out as the starting QB.

Had it been spectacular on offense there would have been melting about the defense.

All likelihood is that two (or more) QB's will play in the opener, and Milroe will be probably be first and given every opportunity to win the job. So, prepare to be depressed I guess.

I'm not sure why you would be, though. Guess which QB's didn't win the job outright in Fall camp and weren't QB1 until a game or several into the season?

- AJ McCarron
- Jake Coker
- Jalen Hurts

Step off the ledge my man. This isn't Saban's first rodeo.

I mean even set aside drops and look at the lack of separation we had last year.

There is no way an elite track guy like Bond or Law forgot how to run fast. So if they can’t separate last year what’s the issue?

Is it route/scheme (aka BOB)? Maybe
Is it technical? Maybe

Either way HS talent all the sudden isn’t translating to execution on the field. Simply put our margin for error isn’t where it was in 2020, we need to improve our scheme, improve our cuts and catch the ball when our QBs deliver the it or we will end up like we did last year: on the wrong end of all the critical games.

Saban seems pleased with the scrimmage. Opposite of what we heard here today.

If I've learned anything about CNS over the years is he rides the shite outta his good teams, and uses baby gloves with his not so good teams.

I'd be more comfortable if he'd hit the podium shooting lasers out his eyes and saying things like "erybody got to get better AIGHT !" "ERYBODY!"

"IF WE CANT PLAY NO BETTER THAN THAT ILL GO WATCH THE DUCKS shite THE YARD !"

Legitimate competition at the position aside, IMO there is absolutely no reason for Saban to tip his hand until the Week 2 matchup against Texas.

Even if he has a solid lean as to QB1 at this point, I can't imagine him actually announcing anything until after that game.

To make sure I wasn’t crazy (which I probably still am), I polled two separate friends and asked if they thought Buchner looked best or Simpson “shined,” and their exact response was “What?!!”

I’m starting to wonder if coach is putting out multiple stories to catch some leaks, or obfuscate something in particular.

I’ll go back to what I said last night — hopefully what we saw was a result of an intense week of practices and extreme heat, combined with the staff just handing it over completely to the players to see if any of them would step up.

They didn’t, and I’m going to choose to believe that still wasn’t the best we can do.

I like it better when Saban is pissed. I’ll take pissed off, up by 30 Saban over I need to coddle these anxiety babies and not hurt their feelings. The relaxed and smiling Saban has me worried.

Just remember our drops are with the offense constantly on the field. That would be anywhere from 150-180 plays. Same with Turnovers and fake sacks where a finger tip will cause the whistle to blow.

He literally was pissed off last week. Having a mixture is not a bad thing.
