I don't trust Rick Barnes as a coach.

Alabama walk-on Sam Okauru has put his name in the transfer portal

The 6’5/200 lb. wing has 3 years of eligibility remaining

Had Coppin State, Cornell, Quinnipiac, Radford and Elon recruiting him out of high school

That's strange

Question his post-season performance all you want, but he's one of the best regular season coaches in the game, and Tennessee next year is loaded

With Kentucky losing so much in recent weeks they're going to be a trendy pick to win the conference

Hate to break it to you Gator Gator but if Bama gets John Petty and Herbert Jones back we winning the SEC. It’s common knowledge

Who they will lose: Alabama is not a program that is used to seeing its top talent leave early for the NBA Draft, but this could be the new reality for Nate Oats. It's no longer about stashing and developing, which became the norm for Oats at Buffalo. If the Tide recruit the way they are hoping, they may need to become more accustomed to replenishing their cupboard earlier than expected.

Kira Lewis is all but gone, and he will leave a massive void at the lead guard spot, while John Petty and Herb Jones have also entered their names in the draft. Jones could be back for another year but, either way, the Tide will lose at least two of their primary sources of offense from last year.

How they reload: If you haven’t been paying attention, Alabama has been on a roll this spring. While the offseason began a month earlier than expected due to the coronavirus outbreak, that hasn’t hampered Oats’ efforts on the recruiting front, as he landed four impactful commitments for next season within a matter of two weeks.

Yale graduate-transfer Jordan Bruner was a huge addition, as was four-star guard Josh Primo. Junior college shooter Keon Ellis and Rivals150 forward Darius Miles add depth, as does four-star forward Keon Ambrose-Hylton. If Jahvon Quinerly steps up from the get-go next year, the Tide have a chance play deep into March.

Wish someone would make a montage of every three Alabama made last year. Working from home, I'm pretty burned out on the same videos.

Can’t wait to get back in the gym with Herb. Huge year ahead for him. Nobody was able to see a healthy @_hoopinglife this past year. He will shock some people this upcoming season.

Oats on Herb

What a year for JP! Can’t wait to see what the future holds for this young man.

Oats on Petty

I know @jayunooo isn’t taking any days off right now. His work ethic brought on this type of freshman year. Can’t wait to see what he brings next season after another offseason of work.

Oats on Shackelford

Great week for us! Can’t wait to get our team back to campus and add these guys in with them. Looking forward to next season already.

Sounds like Oats thinks it’s a given that Petty is gone

Thanks for the off season stuff. Enjoy it. Chad, could you reference your quote. It adds a different layer of depth to know who is speaking. Thanks.

Idk about that, it's a given that Kira is gone and Oats didn't mention him. I take it as a good sign about Petty possibly coming back.

John Petty did an almost 4 minute interview with WZDX a couple of days ago.

Hard to tell which way he was leaning, he refers to his time at Alabama in the past tense a few times but also says

quote:

With my situation I'm in now my time might not be up there. I'll probably be there another year depending on how everything else goes.

I think if in his heart he wants to go ahead and get started playing pro ball in order to help support his child financially that's what he needs to do even if the draft process is really jacked up and he's taking a bit of a gamble. I'd imagine his big fear over not getting drafted is potentially having to go overseas and not get to see his daughter. The decision to return to school should be something you arrive at either because you just enjoy college life and want to live it another year or after concluding that it is definitely the best move for your future career. I just don't want him to feel compelled to return because of the draft process. That would not be good for him or for the team.
