Hamiter was .178 with runners on base. I thought WH would be a stud a couple of years ago. I was wrong!

We are like 3rd in the conference in hitting so I don’t think it is much of a problem

I’m assuming that’s an overall BA? We were very hot at the beginning of the season. We are also the conference leader for running into double plays and leaving guys on base has been a problem, think UGA series. Our hitters don’t get walked a ton, I think 11 or 12th in the conference A&M & USC have been walked almost a 100 more than us. Are other teams more patient at the plate which helps drive up pitch counts and is that an area we need to take more advantage of? Probably the wrong weekend series to start that discussion though. But it is definitely something to think about after the Arkansas series. If you’ve looked into the data around the amount of strikes that are called balls (across the board not just UA) screws the pitchers, but if the team can use it as an advantage on the offense side of it that would soften the blow. Other lineups have taken advantage of it. We have a great offense, no doubt.

Our pitching staff lost our out of the gate Saturday starter, and the guy who started out as our Sunday guy struggled and got moved out of the rotation completely. When they moved it around once again the new Sunday starter who had very few innings to start with went out with a season ending injury. That hurts.

Our fielding pct is 12th in the SEC, so I guess what I’m getting at is the team as a whole needs to regroup. Hopefully, it happens.

We are in the top 6 in every category offensively . You must be a players ( pitchers mom) or Coach JJ’s wife. Every time someone mentions pitching , you throw it back to offense , fielding etc . Yea losing two pitchers hurts , especially when you don’t have many arms to begin with. We are more likely to win a game 14-10 than we are 1-0 or a 2-1 score . If you were to say this team ( whatever that may end up being) could hang their hat on one thing, what would it be? For me , it is we usually swing the bats well enough to win/ keep us in games
We have a lot of improvement to do across the board and I think Vaughn will get us there but this league is tough . Teams are not backing up, we have to move forward . Teams ranked in the top 20 with losing conference records . But if you can’t objectively look at our pitching staff and see that it is lacking , then I don’t know what to tell you

No, I just know enough about baseball to realize there’s much more to it than a box score. I’m also pretty critical on how some players are being used, but I know that is way above my pay grade. There is more to it than what we see, and I do think our coaching staff is top notch but I’m married to staff.

I do too. Played college baseball and coached HS baseball for 25 years. Don’t need box scores either . I know what I see with my eyes

We are hurting for sure. I’ve never denied it. I just don’t think it falls solely on the pitching. The freebies with walks are killing us.

After having conversations with those who are in the industry outside of UA are sharing the same thoughts on the team. I’m just trying to ignite conversations that aren’t just about pitching, because it’s not our only issue.

I would said the same as you, and I hope our offense turns it on this weekend. I’d love to see the hogs go home sad. Roll Tide

Rough midweek loss

quote:

Alabama baseball suffered a 5-4 loss to South Alabama on Tuesday evening at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. Following the midweek matchup, the Crimson Tide is now 22-11 on the season.

Alabama collected four runs with two outs in the third to build an early advantage. The Jaguars answered with single tallies in the fourth and fifth to cut the deficit in half and make it a 4-2 affair after five. In the eighth, South Alabama rallied with two outs, using a two-run double and an RBI-single to take a 5-4 lead. Alabama had runners in scoring position in the eighth and reached a man in the ninth but could not rally back.

The Crimson Tide received a solid start from Kade Snell, with the left-hander allowing two runs on five hits and a pair of walks while striking out a career-high six. Logan Wash (2-1) picked up the win while Gant Starling earned his first save. Aidan Moza (2-2) was handed the loss.

From Head Coach Rob Vaughn
"Kade (Snell) gave us a great start. Jansen Kenty threw the ball well. (Coulson) Buchanan threw the ball well, and (Alton Davis II) was great there at the end. We had four two-out RBI in the third, which is good. But now we have a decision to make as we move forward. We have done really great things up to this point. We have also done some things inconsistently up to this point. A great team is one that can respond when things aren't going well. We will have heck of an opportunity to do that on Friday night. It is our job to come out and prepare these next two days to take on the No. 1 team in the country and play one game at a time."

This team is in a death spiral. Never seen such HORRIBLE pitching.
