So now that preseason is out of the way, how does everybody think we fair in conference play?

If we don't fix our strikeout issues we are going to be in trouble.

My stepdad is a Mississippi State alum and we watched their game this afternoon. Their middle reliever today was hitting 96 and mowed down almost everyone he faced. He has a shot to be their Sunday starter, but they are so deep it's not guaranteed.

He would probably be the best pitcher we've faced so far.

Yeah, the SEC has a ridiculous amount of talent. We play like 4 teams int the top 10 a 6 in the top 20 IIRC.

It will be a long tough conference schedule. Breaking even would be tremendously successful. A. Team can make a regional with a losing record.

Drawing Missouri and Kentucky is pretty huge. Our early season stretch post-Ole Miss will determine our season

vs Tennessee
@ Texas A&M
vs Auburn
@ Kentucky
vs Missouri

Gotta go 9-6 or 10-5 in that 5 series stretch. 2 programs we have better players than (UK/Mizzou) and 3 that we can legitimately match up with this year (Vols, Auburn, A&M).

Because before that is.........

@ Arkansas
vs Ole Miss

And after that is........

@ Vanderbilt
@ LSU
vs State

Pretty good summary. The schedule is rough, but it's rough for everyone in the league.

Preilipp needs to get back. I think we have a chance to stay in games with our first 6 or so pitchers. I think CP, Jean, Smith, Ras, Green, and Guffey are very capable. Will be interesting to see how Shamblin gets used moving forward. He's been very good as a midweek starter and continuing to win those games is important, but he also might be able to be used in some role on the weekends.

Offensively I hope Williamson and Praytor can snap out of it because they have proven they can be better, and I can see their averages rising even with league play coming if they get back to their ability. I think most of the other guys are going to be taking a step back based on the arms they are coming up against. I don't see Hamiter, Pickeney, Jarvis, or Denton staying where they are at least from an average standpoint. Hopefully they can stay somewhat close.

Doesn’t sound promising at all. Gotta think he’s not going to be a factor this season and be pleasantly surprised if/when he’s back. They are keeping the lid tight on this one - not even any ballpark speculation as to what’s up that I’ve heard.

Think he’ll still be gone after this year? (Considering he’s only pitched 5 innings competitively in the past year?)

Yea, and as we all know, the mystery injury followed by setback after setback with a pitcher almost never ends well. It wouldn't shock me in the least to hear in 10 days that he is having TJ or something (not that this is that, but generally when coaches talk like this about a pitcher it's something related).

He's got to come back next year, right? He won't be 3 years removed from high school until the 2022 draft.

Oy, yes. He was drafted out of high school in 2019. 2020 was his first year in college so it is the 2022 draft. Hope we have some great memories of him by then.

Of course, pitching is always a need and many of the draft analyses for the 2022 draft have University of Alabama southpaw Connor Prielipp near or at the top of the board.

Brock Guffey talks about how well our bullpen did last weekend and how this is the best it’s been since he’s been here.

Coach Bo: “Hey Brock is there any correlation between how well our bull pen did last weekend and you not pitching?”

He was clearly joking and Brock did have a disastrous midweek outing last week, but it caught me off guard as well. Haven’t seen him joke around with players during these press conferences before. Surely they have a good rapport or else I’d like to think he wouldn’t have done it on camera.

Alabama Baseball: Game Ball Winners from Stetson Series

quote:

William Hamiter
Hamiter collected six hits over the final two games of the series with Stetson.

Zane Denton
While Denton’s numbers will not jump off the page, he nailed two home runs over the weekend. His Friday two-run homer provided the only runs of the game for Alabama.

Dylan Smith
One of the toughest pills to swallow as a pitcher is throwing an amazing game and leaving with a no-decision. That’s what happened in the case of Saturday starter Dylan Smith. Smith struck out 10 batters over eight innings in the 4-3 win. It took the Crimson Tide 12 innings to get the win, Drew Williamson scored the game-clincher on a wild pitch.

Antoine Jean
The bats came to life in Sunday’s series clincher. However, the defense was led by solid pitching from Antoine Jean. Jean’s six strikeout day complimented William Hamiter and Andrew Pickney’s three-hit performance at the plate.

Weather permitting, hope to have @AlabamaBSB against Troy for you tonight on @UA_CTSN!

First pitch scheduled for 6 pm, raining at the moment but it’s a turf field that handles water well.
