So where did this Hunter Ruth guy come from? I have not heard his name mentioned even in Mid-week action that I can recall.

He’s a transfer - started at UF and transferred to Palm Beach State CC before coming to Bama. He’s pitched a little over 8 innings this year with mixed degrees of success. Last night was his best outing of the season. 2 innings, 20 pitches, 6 outs - retired1,2,3 both innings. Hopefully he has hit his stride. Here’s his bio Hunter Ruth

I wonder what made them decide to bring him in? His track record does not seem to warrant SEC relief work right now.

Granted, he had his struggles against two top 5 quality teams.

If it was Arkansas, we'd just require them to spend the night in the dugout

Bama had a commanding lead at that point and had used a lot of guys against UNA on Tuesday. I’m sure Coach Bo was trying to save who he could for the next two games and also see if Ruth was showing signs of progress. He’s one of the more ‘experienced’ bullpen arms (i.e. 3 years removed from high school). Hopefully he can keep progressing in the right direction. Last night he was great - just what Bama needed to close out the game.

So we have these guys available to get 42 outs tomorrow

Smith (man if he could go all 7 in game 1 it would be fantastic)
Jean - we’ll say last weekend was a fluke
Freeman
Green
Viper
Prielipp??

Assuming Smith/Lee can get through the first game

That would leave Jean, Freeman, and Green fresh for game 2. IMO Freeman and Green alone are more than capable of getting it done if Jean gets the early hook again.

Still no clue if Prielipp is cleared for an inning or two tomorrow.

ETA I suppose we can throw Shamblin in there too

LSU is up 4-0 and on the verge of a sweep against Ole Miss today.

OM has not been the same since losing Tim Elko to injury.

It’s weird that LSU fans want Mainieri fired. Ole Miss fans are begging for Bianco to be fired.

If Alabama had another 8-22 type year in conference this year we would cream ourselves for either of those coaches.

It shows how desperate these fan bases are to be relevant at something. This is basically all OM has, and LSU is coming off a Bama Title in football and SEC title in basketball. They cannot handle it

After enduring these last 7 years I will never again complain about a coach that fields a competitive team year in and year out and makes a deep run in the post season every 4 years or so.

I kind of get them both, though.

Bianco made Ole Miss into a baseball program, but he's also probably had the most underachieving postseason run in SEC history. He's in Mark Richt in 2015 territory right now.

As far as LSU, they expect to be the class of the SEC and in the Top 5 every year. They haven't been that in about 4 seasons. They're 36-39 in the SEC in the last 3 SEC seasons.

The expectation levels of those 2 and us are just not in the same realm. Hell, we were ready for Wells to move on and fired Gaspard for basically "only" making regionals 2 out of every 3 years. And that was only about a decade ago.

This right here drastically changes your expectations. And I'm on the exact same page as you. Give me a competitive program that makes the NCAA Tournament most years and gives me a run every 4-5 years and I'm good to go.

Yea I can understand LSU wanting to can Mainieri. They have to be at the top of the conference and making a run at the CWS every year to appease their fan base. It’s pretty apparent Mainieri ain’t it.

With Ole Miss I just think it’s a slippery slope and it’s easy as hell to downgrade and put yourself in a hole you’ll never get out of.

LSU gave up 8 runs in the 8th to allow Ole Miss to tie it and eventually walk it off with a lead off HR in the 9th.

Pretty sure all the runs came with two outs I. The 8th. Or at least most of them.
