Exactly. It probably seems like I’m mad at Ty with what I’m saying. I’m not, it’s the coaches leaving him in when he’s clearly rattled that pisses me off. The kid has played his tail off, but there clearly needed to be a change. If only short term, try something different. Seemed like a couple times this season and last, the coaches just accepted defeat

Austin Mack has been in CKD's offense longer than ANY QB on the roster and STILL couldn't beat out Ty Simpson. That should speak volumes.

Ty couldn’t beat out Milroe. That should also speak volumes, but it didn’t. Ty was an upgrade over Milroe right?

You're an idiot. This board needs to move above using milroe as an insult. Dude bleeds crimson, great kid, and did the best he could behind a shite o line.

Kid doesn’t even know the difference between Joe Milton and Jalen Milroe. What kind of morons are we allowing on here?

Actually Ty was a huge upgrade over Milroe. The problem is, after the Missouri game and Ty injuring his back and supposedly his hip, the steady decline in his performance happened. The Ty Simpson that played through the Missouri game was exponentially a better QB than Milroe and I don't see how that can even be argued.

I'm not going into why Ty didn't start over Milroe last season. Everybody has a "story" and none of them are the same. But at the end of the day, Ty apparently improved enough to not only win the starting job this year but be at the top of the Heisman list through half of the season before he got injured. I'm telling you, you DIDN'T WANT Austin Mack starting over Ty this season. If he decides to stay, maybe Mack will take a big leap of development this offseason and turn into the quarterback you already think he is. But I'm telling you, this season he was not what you're suggesting he is. If positions are won at practice, he definitely didn't win it.

To start the season, absolutely not. Ty was really good. But like you say, he regressed. When that happened is when I would’ve liked to have seen a change. 2 games in particular. SEC Championship and Thursday night. Both games it was clear that leaving Ty in there equals a loss. After Ty was supposedly hurt during Mizzou game, the coaching staff should’ve been preparing the backup, and maybe they were? All I know is both of the backups have more physical capabilities than Ty and it’s not close. I remember Gus Malzahn turned a corner into a quarterback by pretty much running the same 5-10 plays a game. Why couldn’t our OC have something similar setup for Mack or Russel if they’re having trouble with the system? Ty clearly needed rest. I mean crap, just run some zone read and RPO for a few series and see what works. I know anything is better than continuing to trot out an injured quarterback that’s lost confidence in the players around him and himself

I feel like I’m in the twilight zone with some of these Ty defenders.. did we watch him completely change as soon as he got the heisman love? He had 4 or 5 games straight with a sack fumble because he sits in the pocket and pats the ball instead of letting it rip. How many wide open guys did he miss when he had a clean pocket? I will never say that he didn’t give everything he had for Alabama but holy crap he was very average for most of the year.

He looked confused, multiple times. His first redzone appearance was him bouncing around reads instead of taking his time.

He’s got more zip on the ball but by no means did I get the sense he was better mentally.

If we want to push the ball, we need to actually call plays to push the ball. Not call screens and 0 yard runs nonstop like we did for over half of our plays
What do you expect from a kid with NO big game experience?
"Pushing" the ball requires an OL that can give QBs time to let his receives get into their routes. Neither QB was afforded that.

As I stated first, it really comes down to coaching. Saban was the G.O.A.T. at hiring coordinators and assistants... Deboer...not so much. Maybe he turns it around or at least gets lucky in hiring competent help for the O-line and RB's

Saban literally tried his best to hire Grubb.

He tried to hire Grubb along with OL Coach Scott Huff, who is now TE coach for LA Rams. Huff was with Grubb in 2024 with the Seahawks.

Not sure why he wasn’t offered to come when Grubb was, or if he was offered and turned it down. Kapilovic clearly isn’t the answer.

He was good until 2018, then for multiple reasons was mediocre to worse after that. The downhill slide began when he chose recruiting over coaching with the choices of Lupoi and Loxley as coordinators in 2018. Alabama never fully recovered and won 1 NC in his last 6 years with a fabulous array of talent according to the dubious recruiting services.

(Idk, but think Golding may have been better than most think. It’s possible that he had to coach Saban’s D and not what he wanted to run. No, I don’t know the differences.)

Not once the good ones became head coaches. O’Brien ran a 1999 pro style offense with Bryce Young and Jahmyr Gibbs.

He was up until the last few years. I think that was the biggest reason for the decline in consistency and physicality for Bama 2021 onwards (some areas 2018 onwards). Doug Marrone being the worst positional hire. Not to mention BoB’s unimaginative playcalling and Golding’s slow starts on defense

The In-Crowd will never buy that. Milroe was great to them.

The 1st qtr vs Go Blue in the bowl game was without a doubt the worst any Bama QB had ever played, but he gets a pass as usual.

Who the frick are you talking about? I can't remember the last time I saw anyone on here defending or excusing Milroe.

Kirby won him 3 rings, Kiffin won him another 2, and Sark came in and whispered in Mack Jones ear and won him another one. Kirby has won 2 with uga and was close in 2018, Mark was close last year, and Kiffin would've had a shot this year had he stayed. We'll just have to wait for the next round of great coordinators to come available.
