If we're looking at a QB in the portal then it tells us the staff feels there's no one currently in the QB room capable of running the offense next season. That would be a very bad sign.
Or they've talked to the players and gotten a good idea of who's declaring/transferring and realized they're gonna need some guys for depth. Say for example if Milroe has told them he's going pro and Lonergan has told them he's hitting the portal. They're not going to willingly move forward with only 3 QB's on scholarship.

Feels like a troll post, Arnold can’t even throw at an FCS level

No way Milroe is returning if the HC said the offense will only look like it did this season.

No way Kalen Deboer is letting his coaching career depend on Jalen Milroe. There's no way he's that dumb.

If Milroe opts out of the bowl we'll find out soon why two coaching staffs have not gave Simpson a start or we we'll wonder why they didn't.

Mack ended up being something like the 4th option behind Lonergan.
This. Why is Mack behind guys who can't run the offense if he’s the heir apparent? Maybe to keep Ty and Lonergan from hitting the portal in the spring?

Maybe because where he is on the depth chart at this particular time is irrelevant, his time is down the road.

No doubt, if we have someone portal out. But if we don't and we're looking at the portal then that's not a good sign. Much like last year when they brought Buchner in, that should have told us where we were at QB.

Couple of these guys saying Mack starts next year are just trolling.

o go somewhere where they could potentially be featured and not to have live in Ryan William's shadow?
nobody on the current roster is a first option receiver other than Williams.

No argument here, but Prentice and Law could go to a smaller program and be the man. It worked out for Trey Palmer going from LSU to Nebraska for a year, and now he's a starter for Tampa Bay.
Wish them both well, but looking forward to the future of this passing game without them and Milroe.

Except Carlton. He said Mack would be the starter before Saban retired.

I don't know why saying Mack is great or could win the job is a troll
.
I think all our back up QBs are great. Except for John Cooper, as soon as we get that cancer out the locker room the better. Mack piqued my interest when he was the first call CKD made. I just think Mack is capable of being a legendary, mind bending slinger of the football sooner than others.
I guess that is controversial. All of our back ups have great qualities and could win the job. Mack is just a 6'6" Dart slanging leader of men that lives and breathes football. Nothing wrong with that.

I don’t think it means that at all.
They may have confidence in the existing qbs but want to introduce some competition. Saban said and did this consistently. Would we ever want to turn down a talented qb in the portal because we are happy with what we have? No!

There should already be plenty of competition among the existing QB's. You don't waste a scholarship just to bring in competition. It's either for depth or for a starter.

Prentice can go somewhere and learn to block and catch passes but he's a second third, slot receiver.
Law is a raw prospect and a project. He is still learning to playing the position; improve route running, catching the ball, positioning the body to catch the ball.
Prentice was never going to be a first option receiver. I can't see that changing at another program unless he goes FCS.
Law was a project. He has great athletic ability but he's really not a complete WR at the moment.

Waste a scholarship? You know how many we have leaving? QB is a fairly important position.

Im in the minority but when Simpson was in the few times that he was he made a few passes that i thought were good. Kid couldnt get in any rhythm with us not blowing anyone out and him getting a few hand offs a season.
