If we get into February and O'Brien is still here, he probably isn't going anywhere.

BoB is most certainly still here, because that contract you mentioned doesn't expire until Feb. 28. He will continue to be here until we all see an announcement that he isn't. If he doesn't get that Patriots job...yes, I know all sources report that he is the favorite...BoB and Saban could agree on a contract extension in about 5 minutes.

Heaven help us if that happens. But BoB isn't gone yet.

I have no great affinity for Bill O’Brien and think his prospects for success here went down dramatically with Young declaring for the draft.

Still, I think we are all a bit too harsh on him. He actually managed a pretty high scoring offense for a unit with a dogshit OL in 2021. The 2022 offense would’ve likely been better if Young wasn’t hurt for most of the year.

He just had this problem with getting the “first first down.” Too many 3 play and punt drives. When the offense got a rhythm they were tough in 2021 and 2022 but BOB sometimes struggled with that first chain mover to get a drive rolling.

Still, part of the emphasis on absurd offensive efficiency was the fact that Golding’s defense is only built to play with immense pressure created by the other side of the ball.

IMO, O'Brien's greatest sin is insisting, on 3rd or 4th and less than a yard, having the QB 5 yards in the backfield and handing the ball off to an RB with no lead blocker. Put that QB under center and hand off to our best RB, with 600 pounds of DTs leading him. Or sneak with a massive push. It isn't rocket science.

I'm not a big fan of Bill O'Brien but I think the biggest problems Alabama has had in the last two years on offense were the OL. He's not the OLC. He didn't pick the OLC...thats the head man's call. OL play improved somewhat in 2022 but Alabama was not a very good running team either season.

In fact, I think the "first first down" probably was largely due to the unreliability of the run game.

But lets remember he called plays for the 6th best scoring offense in 2021. A team that had a bad OL and damn near lost every single tailback to injury before the end of the regular season.

Also, Alabama had the 4th best offense in the nation this year despite the QB not practicing with a young receiving corp 2/3 of the season.

When he found a rhythm, they scored in bunches. Their big problem was getting drives started for stretches. Some of that is definitely on how he calls plays. Some of it is that we could never run consistently on any down and it killed drives.

This is a perfect intersection of BOB's playcalling style and lack of trust in the OL that seemed to be a through-line for his tenure here.

I'm convinced Saban would rather kiss a bad assistants arse and hurt the team than straight up fire a coach to cut his losses.

Poor take.

Bob contract expired and he's not coming back.

Why does this keep getting repeated. His contract runs through February. Don’t think he’s coming back, but his contract has not expired.

Your assessment of what you see is your problem. You tend to sometimes jump to erroneous conclusions (hot takes).

Saban is never in a hurry with these things but it is starting to feel a little unnecessarily drawn out. I’m sure he has a plan.

I'd think so, too, but there's been enough time to form a solid opinion, and I'm seeing/hearing nothing on the topic.
I'm beginning to see both lines getting whipped on a not irregular basis.

This is not inaccurate although I do want to say publicly just cause I was thinking about it today. The fact that there has been a years long concerted effort to never call holding in favor of the Bama D line is appalling. It is crazy how blatant it is.

Has he outright fired an assistant at any point in his HC career?
