Derek Dooley coached under Saban too.

Dawkins is a no for me.

I would give up on Bama basketball if we go that direction.

I don't keep up with college basketball as closely as I used to, so I really have little other input. Please no Johnny Dawkins.

As an AD I would need to be very convinced he hasn't just capture lightning in a bottle with the Martin twin + Caroline transfers.

Yeah I agree.

When I watch Nevada play, which isn't often to be fair, I come away thinking they've got good players more than they're well coached.

Anything would better than Avery Johnson at this moment.

So what?

Yea - the Martin twins situation would give me pause.

The more I scan the KenPom rankings and think about who is currently out of basketball who might be an option............the more I settle on shooting for the moon with Donovan/Hoiberg and when those fail going straight to Forbes.

I'm sure I am missing a few guys out there, but I can't think of any. Obviously the Matta thing would probably come up again, and I could be convinced of that but I'd need to know he was healthy and 100% ready to go. Ohio State was great for his first decade, but they were decidedly average his last 4 seasons.

Well if we could get Dawkins on a one year contract then that's fine, but if we're going to foot Avery's massive buyout, whatever buyout the guy were hiring has, and the new guy's contract, we better hit on this hire.

Whoever we hire we'll probably have for awhile.

No, a lot would be worse. A lot would be about the same.

If we don't hire the right guy we won't be any better than we've been for the last 20 years.

I COULD NOT BE BEAT WITH KEVIN JOHNSON/DAN MAJERLE ON NBA JAM.

Many Sega Genesis controllers were thrown in frustration trying handle my team of KJ and Thunder Dan.

I don't think Dawkins would make us any worse, but people need to be careful about saying things could not get any worse.

That was the same thinking that got us Goof in baseball. and Goof made the rebuild for Coach Bo much harder than it should've been.

They got bad towards the end because his health was slowing him down and hurting their talent level. He admitted that it was taking a toll on his ability to recruit and other programs were using it to negatively recruit against him. He could barely even walk. If he's healthy and hungry I think he's the best possible hire out of all the guys who are truly "available" at this point. If he's not healthy or his health would rapidly decline if he got back to the grind of coaching he needs to stay retired.

Let’s do it then.

Prohm, Pitino or Donovan.

Make a hire in basketball Saban level

Things could 100% get worse. We have had 3 losing seasons in the last 30 years. The purgatory we have been in for the last 2 decades sucks, but we could just fall through straight to hell if we just say frick it and hire the first dude who shows interest. There is no inherent reason Alabama always wins 17+ games.

It's like people have forgotten that Jonny Jones missed the NCAA tournament entirely with Ben Simmons on his roster and that Tony Barbee exists.

I would be shocked if Majerle was interested. Has too many ties to Phoenix plus financial interests here incolving Jerry Coangelo.

Yea, everything ain't black and white. It's time for Avery to go, but he was far from a "disaster". He didn't destroy the program he just didn't get the job done overall.

Avery is a decent coach, but this late season swoons the past 2 seasons just shouldn't happen. And the way they happened this year is just inexcusable. I think ultimately he's too nice of a guy and that comes across in his teams. They just don't have a killer instinct, and there's little accountability for lazy undisciplined play.

* As most of you know, Sampson has a serious NCAA history while at Indiana

He also got Oklahoma in deep shite with the NCAA. He was personally sanctioned for the Oklahoma stuff while he was cheating at Indiana. And then he got a five year show-cause over the Indiana stuff.

Do NOT want.

We think he’s too nice of a guy, but there are internet rumors out there of him and his wife being verbally abusive within the athletic department.

"Good is the enemy of great" comes to mind when I see the above. (Just looking at Bama)
