Hurt was much better passer as freshman than milroe today

I don't know about that. They both struggled, and some people are ignoring the fact that Milroe struggled passing last year too.

The difference in Hurts' first year and now, though, is no Lane Kiffin to plan and call around the relative lack of passing game. Relative, you know, to Bryce Young's game.

I hated watching Hurts play QB, but I loved watching him win.
Hurts was terrible until the last half of his final year. Look at him now. Everyone wants to execute the QB early in their career.

I don't think he was terrible his one year with Dan Enos. He improved anyway, and then improved more with Riley.

It's crazy to me how many people don't think that being a competent passer is an important part of the QB position

I mean, we still have people on this very board who think Brodie Croyle was a great QB, and he was probably the least accurate passing regular starter in over 3 decades.

It's crazy to me that people think that Milroe can't be a competent passer.

Not a fan of his QB “skills”…especially when there’s a 5* passer sitting on the bench.

By a considerable margin.

Idk but I liked what I saw yesterday, and it's reassuring to know that we have such a weapon as our 2nd string QB. It's hard to stop an offense that can house it on the ground on any given play. It's hard for a defense to respect Milroe, and Gibbs/McClellan/Williams, and our WRs all at the same time.

Milroe performed well considering. I’m sure Simpson will be better prepared this wk just in case. But for right now Milroe is the backup till Saban thinks other wise

Yeah, crazy that I liked seeing our offense score 35 points in 2.5 quarters on the road in a hostile SEC environment with our backup. Just totally unbelievable that anyone could possibly like that.

You have no indication Ty Simpson is ready to play. He’s a true freshman. If he were the better option saban would’ve went with him yesterday. It’s a shame the young man only had one poor throw and some of you are crucifying him.

Milroe doesn't have great downfield accuracy. Hurts refused to throw the ball beyond the line of scrimmage.

Hurts could tuck it and take off for 8 yards. Arkansas 10 took one step in the wrong direction and Milroe turned that into 80 yards.

These are important distinctions

These threads are hilarious......like the OP really has any insight as to who is better prepared to run the offense: Milroe or Simpson?

Yeah. Saban was going to go with a true freshman that has taken a few snaps in 3 games.

Didn’t we say the same thing about Mac for three years. Let’s not make rash judgments after two and a half quarters of play.

Here’s what I saw.

A backup QB who was 100% sure he wasn’t playing in this game until he was.

Made no mistakes.

Broke Arkansas’s back on 3rd and 15.

Never lost his cool, ran the limited plays he had because again he wasn’t the 1 and didn’t get the install Bryce got.

They can work on his passing but we really haven’t seen him pass that much. He underthrew the ball to Burton mainly because he was not wanting to overthrow him. He has to sync with receivers, it takes time. He has an absolute cannon. I’ve been to every scrimmage, he can launch it and usually overthrows it.

What I do know is we have a good backup. Will he pull a hurts and save us in the SECCG? I dunno but I’d trust him to try.

I am very optimistic about his talent as a QB. I think he will be great. What he did yesterday was exceptional. Did not lose his cool did not get rattled did not make ingénue mistakes and won the game in a high pressure situation in his first meaningful opportunity. Can’t expect a better debut.

I’m a big fan. I can’t wait to see the offense under his control in 2023.

Milroe 100% will not best out Ty for starting QB in 2023.
