I think only Bobby Bowden's Florida State teams of 1987-2000 can compare to a run like this.

I don't know the exact numbers, but there aren't many preseason #1s to win the national championship. I remember this being discussed before the 2006 championship with Ohio State which obviously ended badly for them. There might only be one or two other teams all-time besides 2017

There have actually been only 5 teams to win the #1 AP national championship after being picked #1 preseason.
OU - picked 10x; won 4 (85, 75, 74, 56)
Bama - picked 8x; won 2 (2017, 1978)
Florida St. picked 6x; won 2 (1999, 1993)
USC - picked 7x; won 1 (2004)
Mich. St. - picked 1x; won 1 (1952)

- Only wire-to-wire #1s are 1999 Florida State and 2004 USC.
