The fans who truely matter to Greg and all are the ones who show up at the games, not the ones who post on this site and watch on the tube. And those fans are still showing up. Fannies not in the seats will get Greg's attention and right now they are still showing up.
Dont get me wrong I am ready for a new direction but I have laid out reasons on why Greg will not pull the trigger anytime soon.

It's a sport that doesn't generate revenue. That's the reason.

You don’t think softball is at least close to breaking even? IDK just asking a question but our attendance is really good for softball. Wished baseball had that support

No.

Per what I just read basketball and football make a profit and the other combined sports lost 10M.
Gymastics is probably closer to break even then the other sports but just a guess.

Try getting a softball ticket anywhere other than the Brickyard. Softball draws great crowds. They are not making a profit, but softball os not a drain on the athletics budget. Same with gymnastics.

We'd be closer to making a profit if we were hosting super regionals instead of traveling to them.

Not that much closer. The NCAA controls all the ticket revenue. We might get a little bit of it, but not much.

Does the NCAA pay for our travel costs? Revenues aren't the only values involved in the calculation of profit.

Yes. They'll cover our travel, lodging, and per diem.

Ok then. I guess softball just won't ever be profitable.

Even if it's not profitable, it's still worth making an effort to be good if you're going to have a team. We I'm sure do better than most programs given that we have a very large stadium (by softball standards) and it sells out basically every weekend. But the TV revenue from softball just isn't there like it is for football and men's basketball.

I guess that's what we'll be stuck with then.
We can just wait around for Murphy to retire and then the team will suck because there still isn't anyone around worth hiring. No reason to get ahead of that, for sure.

You've got basically two options if you're a softball fan:
1. Cheer for the team and accept that Murphy basically built the program from scratch and is therefore going to have a ton of leeway.
2. Hope the team falls on its face miserably for a season or two, putting pressure on Byrne to make a change and/or leaning on Murphy to retire.

This is apparently the only option if we ever want a good program again.
Everyone in this thread knows we aren't beating Oklahama in the super regional.
ETA: I remember when I thought it was a good thing that we managed to keep Murphy that off-season when he went to LSU. How stupid of me. Yes, everyone, I'm aware he won the national title after that.

The program is still quite good. It's not elite anymore, I'll grant that.
Posted on 5/21/25 at 8:36 am to Bham Bammer
It's mediocre. We spent about a decade or more relying solely on elite pitching while our hitting didn't improve much from year to year.
Elite pitching cannot exist in a vacuum if we want to actually be elite.

Jesus. Making the WCWS damn near every year is “mediocre”? Even OU fans would laugh at that.

If by “everyone” you mean you then sure. Murphy has a 12-9 record against OU and obviously beat them this year. They aren’t unbeatable by any stretch.
