Alabama needs a team that can dominate the opponent and/or be the aggressor.

After two years of CKD, I just don’t see it. I just see more of the same.
Going back and looking at his two years in Washington, it was rare to see a dominant victory. Most, if not all, good opponents were a needless struggle, with many one score victories.
I’ve been CKDs biggest fanboy, but that Indiana loss (and Georgia loss) got me. Plus, to be an offensive genius, our so-called next-level quarterbacks have fizzled each year.

He has lost 66 players in the portal which three have been home runs (Downs/Sayin/Haynes). There are a few others that were productive (McLaughlin/Holden/Bond/Brockermeyer/Benson/Amos/Little). That’s what 10 out of 66 or 15% of Bama transfers out that were solid for other teams.
All remaining playoff teams have around 50% of their starters coming from the portal.
What is affecting Alabama isn’t lack of toughness. It isn’t solely coaching. It’s about getting the right people in the building.
We are giving bags to 18 year old kids who haven’t earned it in college. They earned it bc of their star ranking out of HS.
Other schools are buying players that are known college studs (i.e David Bailey or Romello Height at TTU) OR kids who are more mature and trying to earn their money by doing what is required at the college level. (I.e Germie/Cuevas/Brailsford)
Indiana has a bunch of hungry players that are much older than most teams.

I'd much rather spend little money on HS players.... Spend big money on college players that have succeeded. I think our model needs to flip on this.
What is the purpose of recruiting HS kids really hard, pay them a shite ton of money, then they leave based on being at Alabama for more money else where....
Can any team effectively keep folks on the roster long enough to develop them any more? I think it's far and few between.

To be fair, Cignetti had a lot of struggle wins at James Madison. Saban did as well at LSU. I was willing to give Deboer a little time because the team he inherited had multiple struggle wins over awful teams the previous year, including a blowout loss to a team Deboer beat at Washington. But three blowout losses in year two is a serious red flag.
I think he gets two more years but if no progress is made next season, he may as well not even bother showing up for spring drills in 2027.

2026 is the deal. They will fire him and just pay the 900K per month until someone hires him to offset that monthly amount. Bama isn't getting out of this without more pain and losing the Rose Bowl isn't the pain I am talking about.

Bring back Brian Dabol as OC

Everyone hated Daboll when he was here, too. Don't get it twisted.
The only coordinators that did no wrong in most eyes were Coach Sark and Coach Pruitt.

He won a title in 2017 as the OC. He ran a balanced offense.
I wish Pruitt never left to go to UTenn

Pruitt leaving really hurt us and actually finished Pruitt.

Pretty sure his contract doesn't have that offset option. If he's fired he's getting all that money regardless of whether he gets another job or not.

I agree. We're stuck with him for better or worse for the next two years. The financial reality is we can't afford to fire him before then. I know some of our fans assume Greg Byrne can just automatically come up with the buy out from our alums but that's simply not true. Yes, CKD would be paid monthly the rest of his salary but that's still a crap load of money any way you cut it.
IMO, the program is at a massive crossroads and to get the ship righted, CKD is going to have to make some massive changes in the program. Business as usual with the same cast of characters ain't gonna get it. 3-5 coaches need to be fired along with maybe Courtney Morgan and David Ballou.
The currently and old recruiting strategy of getting what we can out of the HS ranks and pick up a few guys in the portal cannot work anymore. Some of the guys we got in the portal were a total waste (e.g. Peter Knudsen, Jack Sammarco, Kam Howard, Brody Dalton). IMO, we need to bring in probably 20 guys from the portal each year who can play from Day One and make a difference.
Can and will CKD make those changes? I don't know but continuing with the same old tired practices would seem to me that he's got two years max before he's fired.

Courtney Morgan is one of the best GMs in the country.

Devil’s advocate question: In an environment in college football where a weak sister with a sugar daddy can open their checkbook and buy a CFP contender in a season, is “dominating opponents” outside the Mercers of the world a realistic standard anymore?
I’ve been ragging on our fan base the last couple of days, and I am not doing that to argue with people or to be an a-hole. And I don’t think our standard should ever, under any circumstances, be short of excellence.
But from a lot of the conversation here, I think it’s obvious that much of our fan base doesn’t understand that for better or worse … and I think it’s mostly worse … this is a completely different sport, I mean 180 degrees different, than it was as recently as two years ago. And it’s not changing back to the way it was before.
Which means that a lot of stuff people think is “supposed to be,” is a given to the point of being a birthright where Bama is concerned, might not be anymore.

I hope kids aren't seeing Bama as a stepping stone to get more money at other programs....that seems a small possibility if we are devoting more NIL to HS kids instead of portal. As said, need to flip that model and get portal that will help and put HS on the lower end.

I posted this in another thread, but this is actually the year where Coach can purge the rest of the players that he doesn’t want i.e. the Saban kids that didn’t pan out.

Dominating every opponent every week is most likely no longer realistic, but there are plenty of teams who still put the game away in the second half. I don’t see any reason why Bama can’t do that in at least some conference wins unlike this year.
